FFS! Husband does not understand Answer Smash on House of Games and it drives me mad!

Christ alive! Tonight he's shouted out "Bananarama!" and "Woodstock"! with no concept of adding in the extra part to make the correct answer. Night after night he does it and cannot work out why his answers are wrong. We have it on all the time, and he still cannot seem to grasp the idea of it. Drives me mental!

Does anybody remember when Ingrid Oliver was a contestant? I noticed quite a few subtly charged moments that week between Richard and her!

CrushingOnRubies · 24/10/2024 23:00

Not so much didn't out effort in, but I think reaction times to the buzzer and just not as on the button as they once were. But I thought it was really sad when Valerie Singleton was on

The person who should have done better but didn't is Paul Martin from flog it. He got all the history questions wrong and wildly wrong on the Terrible at Dating round. and when that's the reason why you're a celeb. That wasn't good

SanFranBear · 24/10/2024 23:02

I always used to think similar with Going For Gold, though, all those years ago. As if it wasn't enough that the British and Irish contestants had a very big advantage, what with all the questions being in English, they also split up the UK home nations, so that there may have been nine contestants in total - and four of them were us!

YES!! I sometimes caught this on my lunchbreak if I was lucky enough to go to lunch with my bf who went to her grandparents every lunchtime and I was always 😯 when the Finnish contestant was down to the Head to Head against 'England' and was holding their own! My gast was well and truly flabbered!!

StarGirrrl77 · 24/10/2024 23:25

Omg Going For Gold! I loved that! The one contestant I remember was Didier Partouche from France. I mentioned him once on Twitter, and he only bloody replied!!! He replied!!! 😍

Distinctly Average is the best round! Closely followed by Where is Kazakstan?, I'm terrible at dating, Totes Emoji, Sing when they're winning, and It's all in the Detail.

Answer smash is one of my least favourites!

We love HOG here. I would like to be famous just so I could go on HOG. Loving Emma Sidi and Alexi Sayle this week.

I can't remember if Patsy Kensit is the one I still have saved, but it was one where they were nearly all just bewildered by answersmash and couldn't get it all. Makes me cry laughing.

I do think it's a great format, in that people excel at different rounds and flounder at others. Even Henning, bless him, had a couple of games that he smashed the others at.

EmeraldIsla · 25/10/2024 10:47

Where is Kazakhstan? actually set me off on a mission to learn the US states properly (by the medium of jigsaw LOL). I'm not immaculate now, but am hugely better than I was.

My freakish skills are Win When They're Singing and the 1, 2, 3 second intros. I'm Terrible At Dating or Distinctly Average are not my favourites ...

Yes that's my favourite bit of the show, when a hurdler or boy band member who's been shit throughout suddenly reveals a preternatural gift for the code round or Richard's Junk, and the generally ignorant DJ rolls out their actual skills to get Win When They're Singing to within a thousandth of a second every time.

pingypongypoo · 26/10/2024 22:41

I'm not a fan of the Answersmash round and sometimes wander off at that point. I like Where's Kazakhstan but think it's the USA or Europe too often. I also like guess the date and have had a couple moments of glory getting it bang on.

I have to like the combination of guests to stick with it and some weeks they aren't my cup of tea. It's true some guests seem to be switched off or bewildered - I remember Jo Brand not bothering much like she was bored. Others just don't come across as being too bright sometimes. Why don't they watch a few old episodes before they go on it so at least they have the idea?!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 27/10/2024 01:05

I know the whole idea is that it's a familiar mainstay, there at the end of the programme, but I'd like them to sometimes vary Answer Smash and occasionally have songs instead of pictures - like they did when Chris McCausland was on.

It might level up a bit more and play more fairly to the strengths of contestants who, although sighted, might have keener audio recognition skills than visual.

Incidentally, did anybody see Countdown the week when Chris was with Susie in Dictionary Corner? He was amazing - even with the distinct disadvantage of having to remember all of the letters in his head.

Was the Four Words round new? I've never seen it before but really enjoyed it.

Scouserena Williams was my favourite Answer Smash today.

I liked it too, don’t think I’ve seen it before.

Don't think the new drawing game is going to last long, that was painful to watch

Love Where is Kazakhstan and Win When They're Singing

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 30/10/2024 19:16

I loved the new drawing game. It was chaotic but fun. Nick really can't draw!

MrsPeterHarris · 30/10/2024 20:24

I didn't like it either @IrritableVowel - hope they don't play it too much!

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 30/10/2024 21:44

The trouble was none of them got the idea of building on each other's drawings. Live giving Oliver a sad face or putting waves round the island or a crown on a fly. They nearly all tried to draw another picture beside it instead.

MrsPeterHarris · 30/10/2024 21:47

It was impossible to tell what the first person drew though, so no way to build!
