This looks like it will be good fun

I certainly don't think that Anna Maxwell Martin looks silly! Yes, she doesn't look glamorous, more plain and homely, but surely that's the character she is playing? And perfectly suited to David Mitchell's appearance.

Sorry..but I'm bumping my comment earlier as nobody has replied. 🤭

Why didn't Anna Maxwell Martin's character report her husband missing? She wanted her BIL to investigate instead?

I think because she doesn't trust anyone in the police. She sent DM off saying he should only trust his partner, I think, who then, of course, had been replaced when DM arrived.

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2024 10:16

I can't work out why she is reluctant to report her husband missing , but their conversations are stilted. Maybe she's the 'baddie '? (Only a guess as only seen one episode so far)
Wants information of some kind but not the husband ?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/09/2024 10:19

well he works fr the police, so she doesnt trust the police and the letter which has a clue, is totally out of character

Mumteedum · 28/09/2024 10:40

I think I must have been too tired watching ep1 and didn't take that initial set up bit in properly. Thanks @DazedandConfused1234 ! And @MrsLargeEmbodied

LadySpratt · 28/09/2024 07:40

@Coruscations the repetitive background music is from the third movement of one of the Beethoven Sonatas, The Tempest. Sometimes it’s true to the score, but sometimes tweaked.

I think it varies between episodes - I've only watched two so far but it was different in each. I suspect @Tdp123 is right about the music in Ep 1 being from the 7th symphony, if only because I recognised it and I wouldn't recognise The Tempest.

Hoppinggreen · 28/09/2024 14:30

Its got a bit of a "Death in Paradise" feel to me, before it got shit.
Very different scenery obvs but I think its maybe the sudden revelation and gathering everyone together for the big reveal

Ah, you could be right, I’ve ploughed through the episodes and the Tempest seems to always be in the background. Perhaps it’s more of a theme in the later episodes. Happy watching!

AAAAh, thank you
Makes sense

Tigresswoods · 28/09/2024 22:02

I was getting the same vibe so looked it up.

I read the Death in Marlow books this summer. Similar thing.

The letter told her not to. It said if anyone from the police tried to speak to her, she shouldn’t say anything to them at all.

And there I was thinking she looked like a normal human, with hair like mine.

I was thinking I might try and grow mine like it 😀

Does anyone recognise the building which is used for the police station? I don’t think it’s in Cambridge so it would be kind if someone could locate it for me.

(The police station in Professor T is in Cambridge, it’s a Caius College building which seems to have been built with conferences in mind.)

Its the police headquarters in huntingdon. The cambridge one is far too small to be used!

IKnowAristotle · 30/09/2024 00:06

Just finished the series and really enjoyed it. DH did as well and it's very rare for us both to enjoy the same TV. I think we're getting old.

TossedSaladandSE · 30/09/2024 03:20

I thoroughly enjoyed it

David and Anna are just brilliant at playing the best awkward British characters don't they

Can't wait for the second series

Mymanyellow · 30/09/2024 04:00

I’m on number 4. Stopped to try and make it last don’t want to finish it yet.
Can’t help wondering how it’s going to end and how we are going to get another series. ( please don’t say if you e finished) I was just thinking aloud.

Hoppinggreen · 30/09/2024 09:00

I won't do any spoilers but we finished it last night and it is well set up for another series

TossedSaladandSE · 30/09/2024 09:23

It's just glorious

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/10/2024 05:12

bit slow in parts but by the last 2 i was really enjoying it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/10/2024 05:16

liked how each episode started like the picture of a crossword, apart from one

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/10/2024 07:33

i just read that someone felt it had a David Hopper look,
which i agree - after a google

DazedandConfused1234 · 01/10/2024 12:07

Loved it and can't wait for the next series. It did take me a couple of episodes to really get into it, and you do have to suspend quite a lot of disbelief, but it was too enjoyable for me to care about that.

the80sweregreat · 01/10/2024 13:05

I started a spoilers thread for this on Telly addicts.

Mymanyellow · 02/10/2024 06:41

Finished now. Loved it good ending @Hoppinggreen ready for the next series.
Perfect for all ages, not gruesome.
Like the feel of it too, old fashioned outer life but modern police station. I’ve not explained that very well but hope you know what I mean.
