This looks like it will be good fun

Which symphony was it they were using for background music all the way through? I recognised it but couldn't work out which one, and it's frustrating me. (Not the music over the credits, they kindly signposted us to which one that was).

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2024 04:54

So glad I watched this
loved it

Was bugging me too as its used in a big film and can't remember what!

I am not too bad at spotting classical.music and I didn't know that was Beethoven.

Miltonfluid · 26/09/2024 05:41

Ludwig Beethoven's number 7 during the programme and the at the finale, number 9 (Ode to Joy).

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2024 06:04

Ah, yes! It's The King's Speech that uses it extensively.

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2024 06:49

I'm getting the impression that he went out with Lucy (once ?) and then his more sophisticated twin stole her away. A bit of history there anyway. Although I missed the first five minutes and thought it was set in the 50s at first

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2024 07:23

Yes, he certainly holds a torch for her.

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2024 07:24

It's all the teal that'll do that to you, 80s!

You know me too well piggy

Fernie6491 · 26/09/2024 08:20

Thought it was quite entertaining, and the obvious nod to Beethoven with the background music, but there was just too much constant Beethoven behind every scene.

It was tinkling away during almost every conversation. I wish they'd just cut a bit of it out. We get the connection 😄

DuncinToffee · 26/09/2024 08:36

I hadn't clocked the background music

Thanks! That was bugging me - not the music (which I enjoyed), but the fact that I didn't know where it came from.

2nd movement of Beethoven's 7th.

Loved it. Gonna have to pace myself!

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2024 09:50

I had to turn the music down at times , but our tv is constantly up and down on the volume button anyway ! It was a tad annoying though.
Love the mix of actors , the one who was the lady DI who was in 'Mum' is a terrific actress
The main guy in uniform has been in lots of things and I can't remember his name
They all seem dodgy though

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2024 10:05

He always play senior police officers in everything!

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2024 10:11

He's called Ralph Ineson btw.

BlossomToLeaves · 26/09/2024 10:12

It was nods to Beethoven from the first seconds of the opening, with the back and forth notes like the start of Für Elise at loads of different speeds and in different places, until it finally started playing it later on. There was rather a lot of Beethoven but I didn't mind that. I did find it hard to hear the dialogue at first so had to turn it up.

I enjoyed it, but thought that the puzzles shown all just seemed a bit simplistic, children's codes and logic puzzles and so on - I thought that there were going to be real puzzles/codes that he was going to be trying to solve that the viewers would be puzzling along with him, more of the clues available to us etc

A lot of the personality stuff was a bit cliched and predictable, but had some funny moments too.

Also Finchy in The Office.

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2024 12:03

Finchy was a horrible character in the 'the office ' comedy. He plays sinister / nasty quite well. Has a lovely deep voice though.
I don't agree that the puzzles look easy ( but then I struggle with sudoku and maths and things like that anyway )
He did work out the murderer rather well
Why such a long bit for the next episode trailer
They did that on nightsleeper too

ladymalfoy45 · 26/09/2024 12:08

'I've found a shoe! It's flown away.'

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2024 12:35

Might be bigger puzzles to solve in the next few episodes maybe? He did write rather a lot on that wipe board at the end.
I'm surprised they didn't know he had a twin brother , but clearly it didn't come up ( of it had , they might have smelt a rat by now maybe , but they seem almost as incompetent as the two detectives on Eastenders are tbh)

Ellerby83 · 26/09/2024 13:19

I enjoyed it. Was that Karl Pilkington's photo? (James's missing colleague/friend}

Somehow missed this on BBC One but cannot wait to watch it on iPlayer.
The premise reminds me of both Jonathan Creek and a very old, very funny Danny Kaye film called Wonder Man (the spirit of an extroverted showman has to inhabit the body of his introverted, academic twin brother).
