SPOILER THREAD:: Apples never fall

BBC one Saturday nights 7 parter

It's all on I player , so thought I'd start a spoiler thread. Do not post spoilers on the normal thread..

I've seen two so far and struggling to stay awake. The acting isn't great and they don't see too bothered that Mom has gone awol.
I guess that Savannah is related to the dad or something to do with the tennis star that's come back from retirement.

I agree with you, it's dull but yet I keep watching. Three episodes to go.

None of the four kids look anything like each other, which I find distracting.

the80sweregreat · 23/09/2024 18:21

I suppose finding four that are alike must have been hard because they did manage to find four that look nothing alike!
Is it to do with Savannah , is she his daughter ?
They looked worried about the tennis star coming back to the game too , he must be significant!

I read the book. The big reveal is not worth it. Boring story

the80sweregreat · 23/09/2024 18:27

I bet it's a right old twisty turney book that makes little sense
They may have changed the ending too

Liane Moriarty is massively overrated and inexplicably beloved of tv producers. I tried watching it twice and fell asleep the first time and got distracted by my phone the second, so I’ll follow this thread to see what it was all about, but I’m not wasting any more time on it.

MattDamon · 23/09/2024 18:42

I thought the premise of why she left was worth exploring but the rest of the show just felt like filler.

the80sweregreat · 23/09/2024 18:43

I do think I've read ' big little lies' but the story is similar to other books like this with big secrets and flashy horrible women and men , so I might be getting confused
I didn't watch the tv show of the book , but it looks as dull as this is ( although this might get better .. I live in hope !)

I loved the book but turned off after 5 minutes of this, so dull.

the80sweregreat · 23/09/2024 18:45

Annette Bening character is obviously feeling unloved and used up , maybe she just fancies a new life away from her hot

I really enjoyed season one of Big Little Lies - the acting was superb from everyone, there were some really perceptive moments but most importantly of all, the central story had me hooked. It's available to stream in the usual places @the80sweregreat or you can cheaply buy the DVD second hand.

GigiAnnna · 23/09/2024 18:55

I started watching it today as I read an article saying it was good. I zoned out 3 minutes in and have no idea what it was about so I've given up.

LBFseBrom · 23/09/2024 19:02

I am hooked, thoroughly enjoying. The plot thickens, I have about 1.5 episodes to go.

At the moment I have no clue as to who murdered the mother, who seems lovely on the surace, if she has indeed been killed; finding 'Savannah' may or may not be revealing in that regard but she will have something to tell. I love Sam Neil as Stan and all the grown up children with their own problems and complicated stories I find extremely interesting.

parcelwoes · 23/09/2024 22:28

I've really enjoyed it. Not read the book and had no knowledge of the story beforehand. I also think that Harry, the tennis student will have some bearing on it. I have 2 episodes to go.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/09/2024 00:59

Filmed in Australia, looked like Australia but supposed to be in America. Utterly bizarre.

Tezza1 · 24/09/2024 01:18

I didn't like the book much and had to push myself to finish it. I think with each book, Liane Moriarty storyline is getting less interesting and the characters more tedious.

LBFseBrom · 24/09/2024 08:50

I finished the series last night, was quite engrossed throughout. However it seemed to fall a bit flat, at least for me, at the end, though, frankly, I don't know what I was expecting. It was well worth watching, the characters and family dynamics were extremely interesting and well acted.

parcelwoes · 24/09/2024 09:36

I wasn't keen on the ending - all playing happy families again. What happened to Savannah? I would have preferred her to stay in the mountains and start a new life with hunky neighbour 😀

But I liked how it showed all the kids taking their mum for granted and only coming to her when they wanted something - I think that aspect might ring true for a lot of older women! How did the book ending differ?

I did enjoy it, and may read the book now.

autienotnaughty · 24/09/2024 09:50

I enjoyed the book but couldn't fully remember it so not sure how close they stayed to it. It was good I liked the way each episode told the story through a different person. The end was a bit meh.

lazymum99 · 24/09/2024 21:42

I just finished binging this. Quite enjoyed it. A bit slow. But interesting family dynamics. I could empathise with that dilemma of whether a woman gives up her career etc for her family or maybe uses that as an excuse to give it up.
But did she not use a credit card or atm while she was away?

Violetparis · 26/09/2024 07:51

I've read the book and watched all of the series. Can't remember if the series was totally true to the book but enjoyed it.

Southeastdweller · 26/09/2024 08:21

I've watched it all and what a disappointment it was. I've seen almost everything Annette Bening's done and this is by far her worst project - maybe she wanted to work with Sam Neill (not at his best in this) or go on a working holiday on the Gold Coast. Slow, often boring, crappy acting from some... I couldn't believe in some elements - that Joy and Troy let a total stranger stay in their house, that the adult children were related - and the reveal was annoyingly predictable.

joolsella · 26/09/2024 09:03

The Gina actress is abysmal

Does she have famous parents

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2024 09:53

I can't get into it at all , but I assume that 'Mom ' is actually alive ?
Tried episode three and ended up on my phone , a sign that I've lost interest in it or them

i persevered till the end but was "Oh is that it?" when it finished.

Couldn't understand why there were quite a few Australian actors in it but being filmed in Oz makes sense now apart from them driving left hand drive cars and on the right side of the road - bizarre.

Glad I didn't bother to read the book.
