@EvilRingahBitch im being thick which big stunt at the end?

The bit where he runs up the wall and flips all the way over. Iconic.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/09/2024 11:30

@EvilRingahBitch

I don't think he did that when I saw it but it's 3 years ago now, so I'm not sure

singin in the rain donald oconnor GIF

No he didn't, it would be unrealistic to do it 8 times a week live on stage. But it's the climax of the number in the movie, which means that the stage number falls a bit flat by comparison.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/09/2024 11:56

Yeah no I definitely didn't see that, but I've never seen the film so I didn't know it was missing

If you haven't seen the film then
a) yes Kevin's version of the number probably looks great because you're not (unfairly) comparing it with the original
and
b) what are you thinking woman?! Drop everything and find a copy because it's a cinematic triumph.

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/09/2024 12:27

Ah yes @EvilRingahBitch I'd forgotten that!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/09/2024 12:27

@EvilRingahBitch

I don't know how it's passed me by. It'll probably be on at Christmas and I can rectify it then

Definitely. Mince pie, possibly a glass of Baileys, roaring fire and Singin In the Rain on the telly. Has the advantage of being funny enough to entertain children and with almost no questionable content, so cross-generation appropriate.

'I'm so downhearted, Theresa. My father has me betrothed to the Baron de Landsfield. And I can't stan' 'im.'

Team Lina Lamont. #JusticeForLina.

She comes out of the stage version much better than the film, she's an out and out villain in the movie.

EsmaCannonball · 27/09/2024 18:45

Poor Michelle. She gets a partner and it must be like she's dancing with someone off The Inbetweeners. Dancing a VW on live national television, you're in one of the most dramatic and romantic moments, and your celeb is telling you your breath smells of garlic.

Wasn't that a reference to the move they're actually doing - where he's sweeping her round as she's swooning/in a dead faint. I assumed she'd made the analogy in training. If not, he's lost my vote Confused

EsmaCannonball · 27/09/2024 21:08

He said they'd be joking about smelling of garlic in the training room but he does seem inordinately fond of talking about farts and bad breath and so on. I'm predicting that he is going to use humour to build up a defensive detachment to the dancing which means he'll never be able to sell the routines in the same way as a Kelvin or a Danny Mac.

Shellingbynight · 27/09/2024 21:53

I watched ITT but I was cooking so I missed some things which were said, but when I was watching Jamie I definitely had that feeling of 'defensive detachment'. I am hope I'm wrong but he didn't seem fully engaged. He said for the Christmas show he and Nancy had ten days of fun, but this was very different and hard work and he seemed faintly grumpy about it.

I've never heard that term before, interesting.
I'm getting the feeling everyone is trying not to get too intense this series. Or have pressure put on them. Not do crazy long hours either.
The tone is different. Plus there is the bbc staff member in the background in the training room, at all times.
Jamie is similar to his character on Eastenders. Which is often the case, but I would say his sense of humour and personality is more casual than I had imagined.
His character is more thoughtful in the Soap.. he's the guy that would make a great boyfriend. Kind caring etc.

Aquarius1234 · 27/09/2024 22:26

It's very early days so all this stuff casual attitude won't last. The longer you last, the more it takes over.
Long term soap actors are quite pampered, the public sometimes forget that. Not quite as down to earth as you might think.
I am a fan of Jamie though. Seems a nice guy just not an introvert or shy at all.
Like I thought he might be in real life.

I don't dislike Jamie and wouldn't remotely 'take votes from him' (I watch EE and like his character). I'm sure quite a few contestants are a very long way out of their comfort zone, but a big part Strictly is about how you put yourself across.

He may relax a bit as time goes on - I didn't like Pete Wicks to begin with but I do now he's warmed up a bit (I wasn't expecting to!). I doubt any of my votes will go to either of them though. Chris - most definitely.

EsmaCannonball · 28/09/2024 09:52

I actually think Jamie seems really nice, very much like one of my nephews and certainly more engaging than, say, Pete or Nick. I just think that he's not going to be able to coast by on comedy, like Chris or Wynne, so he needs to get out of the 'annoying kid brother' zone with Michelle if he wants to sell the more romantic or passionate dances.

Mymanyellow · 28/09/2024 10:25

Early days yet of course, but he seems to be a nice enough lad. Rumba will be interesting though.

Bring me sunshine?
Singin' in the rain number was Ore and Joanne.

Ah yes!! Morecambe and Wise.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 28/09/2024 14:47

How has it gone from "get a room" they're doing it/ to annoying kid brother in only a week? Thanks for the context romvalley - if it's an in-joke they've had all week, it was just an out-of-context edit that threw me.
I'd have preferred him with Jowita or Lauren though.
My actual votes this week will probably go to those being hobbled by shit music tbh. I doubt I'll have enough to go round. Wink
