Thought I'd start one as it's all on the I player.
The ' cyber speak' tech stuff is hard to get your head around at times.
I'm on episode two so far.

Do not post any spoilers on blonds thread ..

How on earth did she guess which of Victoria’s many platforms the train would come in on?!

Doje · 23/09/2024 21:36

This is the worst thing I've watched in a while. BBC you should be ashamed!

the80sweregreat · 23/09/2024 22:21

Abby probably had control of all the platforms to get the train into the right one or something like that. By the final episode I was willing it to be over and find out who the mole was to worry about platforms , but it's a good point and more plot holes.
Joe was sweet , I was a bit upset he actually was a thief though. It was probs 'dirty money 'anyway.

I wish I could stop watching these ridiculous thrillers - I couldn't actually finish the one with Archie Panjabi (I just looked it up - three series for Departure? Three?) - but the question here is which was worse, Red Eye or this?

And physics - who cares about that?

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2024 13:34

I didn't mind ' red eye' it turned out to be quite entertaining in the end, but I agree they make too many all the same sometimes

Enjoyable rubbish! Ludicrous scene of the smoking train just managing to stop in time in the station. Found Abby too wet for her role. Bit of a nod to '24' with the digital clock in the opening sequences of each episode!

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2024 09:53

I've never seen 24 , but I suppose this was a poor man's version of it!

martha4clark · 25/09/2024 20:39

I think if Abby had been played by a better actor, let's say someone like Vicky McClure, the series would have been quite a bit better - still ridiculous, but maybe 20% better. The actress was awful.

HotSource · 28/09/2024 00:37

I kept a parallel countdown in my head:
Crewe: 2.39 a.m. Hours wasted so far in meaningless meaningful looks: 1.3
Birmingham: 3.01 a.m Hours so far wasted gazing at phone before making or answering a call: 0.75
Watford Junction: 4.36 a.m Hours clocked up in overwrought reminiscing and emotional pontificating: 3.4

FionnulaTheCooler · 28/09/2024 22:52

The train just managing to stop in time was utter bullshit, no way a train going that fast on approach to the station wouldn't have crashed through the barrier. They clearly didn't have the budget to CGI a massive central London train crash. I did think Frank Gallagher was dodgy from a couple of episodes in though, he knew too much about all of it.

FlyHalf · 30/09/2024 11:03

The basic premise was really great - activist psycho turns Caledonian Sleeper into giant train set!! - but it started to fall apart the more the writers tried to load onto it, and the more resolutions it had to achieve alongside averting a massive train crash. Oooh, underinvestment in rail network, leading to foreign influence. Boo! Oooh, prejudice against illegal immigrants who only want to watch Jersey Boys and fall in love. Boo! Oooh, angry drunken Scottish man only became angry and drunken because the meanie bankers made him shoot Bambi, but look, he's come good in the end. Boo! and also, hurray! Wait, is the train still going?

And it was at least two episodes too long. And you could tell the producers had lost faith in the clunky dialogue when the background music started doing all the heavy 'feel sad now! feel excited now!' lifting. I think I'd have liked it better if the passengers had turned on each other more and Pev had had to completely flip his plan to crash the train, and instead fight to get police/SAS on board to regain control of the passengers.

Definitelyrandom · 30/09/2024 13:40

I quite enjoyed it even if it was implausible and some of the acting was less than great. Similar problems with Sherwood, but there I was irritated most of the way through. At least Nightsleeper was entertaining old tat.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2024 16:17

So it was only me who thought that maybe Pav was her dad then ?! 😆

Pev? The one behind it all? That didn't occur to me, I thought he had just been a mentor

GrizzLee · 30/09/2024 18:28

I enjoyed it - BUT, given all those supposedly super intelligent-types, how could no-one work out Toby. 🤯🤔
Dodgy laptop at Abi’s house. She’s saying it’s not her’s. And no-one, not even her, thinks ‘oooh Toby.’
So annoying.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2024 18:30

Pev rather. He said ' I've known Abby since she was a child ' or something in episode one or two! Then the business with comparing losing her mum to a computer : I just thought then he might be related to her
He wasn't

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 30/09/2024 18:31

Yep, at no point did Abby think ' ahh, Tobes lives with me '
I thought that too

Binge watched the whole thing last night. Think it's probably best watched like that as you just get caught up in the drama of it and don't get caught up in the plot holes. Actually really enjoyed it, reminded me of Speed. The last episode was a disappointment tho. Why was the female train employee so easily recruited? And I feel we missed out on the relief and joy of the passengers, who thought they were going to die, when they realised that the train was actually stopping ( feel a bit cheated actually, having literally been on a journey from help with them for hours! )

And WHAT was it that Pev had warned them about for years, that he was so aggrieved about he had to mastermind this escapade...?

TheStroppyFeminist · 30/09/2024 22:31

Dh said, as the train approached London, “the most unbelievable part of this is that there’s no signal failure at Watford. That would stop everything” 😂

FlyHalf · 01/10/2024 11:14

I wonder how the conversation with Caledonian Sleeper went? 'Hi, we'd like to feature your amazing new refurbished club lounge bar carriage in a prime time BBC autumn highlight drama! Um, yes, it will be... broadly positive coverage...'

the80sweregreat · 01/10/2024 13:12

Made me laugh though when it came over the tanoy 'hope you enjoyed your trip' or something like that anyway! Bit of humour there

So did Abby realise it was Pev when Saj phoned her and said the phone driver wasn't based in either Tehran or Johannesburg and she said Victoria? Or did she take Jas's phone and only find out it was him when she phoned and he answered? I'm not even sure if she phoned him on her phone or Jas's phone.

And how was he controlling it in the cyber centre without anyone noticing? And what was the significance of him saying that he'd given her back control of the lines and points at some stage but she'd not taken advantage of it? I've now watched it twice and still not sure I understand the ins and outs of it!

IwantToRetire · 14/10/2024 20:28

I've only just watched this as have sort of given up on mainstream 9pm slots on any channel as they are just so bad.

I quite liked on the really silly tech stuff and train screeching through the night, but the characters... ??????????

Were they all written by AI based on characters in every other 9pm "drama". Cliche after cliche, after cliche. Or maybe the British really are that facile.

But really what made it not work was the lead actor.

He was so bad.

How did he get the part.

Just a shame the oil rig worker didn't KO him early on and take on being the rescuer, rather than coming to a grisly end and never knowing about the safe delivery of his daughter.

Off to find a streaming channel with an offer on, as I almost feel embarrased watching Brit tv.

Where are the Happy Valleys and Blue Lights? Sad
