There's lots about conduct and not bringing the profession into disrepute etc, both in the NMC conduct and in your local Trust. You have to intervene if you see an incident.

When I was a nurse, a colleague was disciplined and it went to tribunal, because she didn't stop at an incident because she was walking her dogs, and arguably couldn't look after dogs and sick people at the same time.

So NHS staff shouldn’t drink alcohol otherwise they risk losing their registration if they are unable to help at an incident?

daffodilandtulip · 19/01/2025 15:44

It's not explicitly written like that, but you do have to help if you see an incident so...

Also, if you're pissed and do something stupid and someone films you, puts it on social media or tells your employer, you can be sacked or struck off.

No their duty of care would expect them to acknowledge that they (the nurse) has been drinking and therefore their ability to help would be impaired.
From the NMC code
15.1 only act in an emergency within the limits of your knowledge and competence

15.2 arrange, wherever possible, for emergency care to be accessed and provided promptly

15.3 take account of your own safety, the safety of others and the availability of other options for providing care

As Jodie was a) drunk and b) not a midwife or surgical nurse I'd argue she would have been outside her competency to assist with any procedure. She could be expected to call for an ambulance or reassure bystanders/support husband as this would not create danger for herself or others. There is no legal duty to provide care or assistance while off the clock, for anyone. Ethically the NMC seems to imply there is but only within the three grounds above.

So their dance in the corridor could (hopefully) see the end of Jodie when combined with everything else?

Absolutely. So Jodie did absolutely nothing wrong.

Hence why I don’t understand why there are digs and comments about her having had some alcohol as though she did something wrong.

And then last night Dylan made a reference to Jodie being investigated because she’d had a drink (even though she was off-duty and therefore rightly so didn’t get involved in the treatment/care of the pregnant woman).

It doesn’t make sense.

purpleme12 · 19/01/2025 21:46

Wow that dinner with Tariq and his dad

purpleme12 · 19/01/2025 21:49

NorthernGirl1981 · 19/01/2025 12:37

Why is there so much focus being put on the fact that Jodie was drinking alcohol? There have been little digs/comments made about it over the last two episodes.

She wasn’t on shift so why would she be investigated over it?

Are nurses or doctors never allowed to drink alcohol just in case an accident happens nearby?

Yep they shouldn't have lied in this first place.
It's not like she was working

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2025 20:53

Finally watched. I’m always late

didnt understand Jacob Stripping off to buy booze - why did r he go to another shop and sure people in uniform can buy booze

agree Jodie is allowed to drink if not on duty and a huge fuss made

and arron should be done for dangerous driving - his fault his wife died tbh

sure I always wore a seatbelt even heavily preg

new ambulance lady. Can’t R.E.M. her name. I assume she can’t read as can’t work out medical equipment and failed her written test - which Jan doesn’t know yet

sure blokes hearing will come back

purpleme12 · 25/01/2025 21:05

I don't think she'd have got this far if she couldn't read

With regards to Jacob stripping off in the shop, I think that was just something the writers want to put in cos of the whole theme 'public property'

spiderlight · 25/01/2025 21:07

Just watched tonight's. No spoilers, but didn't the pub used to be called the Hope & Anchor, not just the Anchor?

Johndoeskellington · 25/01/2025 21:15

I think they'll be introducing a post partum psychosis story in

LIZS · 25/01/2025 22:12

You're probably right. Miraculous recovery by Iain.

The hope is gone and we are stuck with Faith 🤣

Who has taken all the Joy out of the show

bizzey · 26/01/2025 01:03

Ohh ..so Nicola might have PPP ..and is therefore imagining a rash/flushed skin on the other lady ...baby mum .

She kept insisting that the other lady took the medicine..but didn't actually say what she thought was wrong with her ?

daffodilandtulip · 26/01/2025 08:55

I think new paramedic will just be the classic "broken person fixed by the love of casualty" story.

Wonder how they will run the Ngozi love story if Nicole is going psychotic. So did the man have the rash in the first place or was she imagining that too?

The Iain story was a bit rushed. He'll be back saving the world next week!

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 26/01/2025 09:17

The timeline feels off. Were Stevie and the fireman (completely forgot his name), really seeing each other long enough to fall in love? I thought they were just a short fling. But I did like her scenes with Iain last night and he's right she deserves to be happy.

Urgh can Jodie just leave, her making doe eyes at dead patient's husband and cooing over the baby is just predictable and boring. She let Dylan get thrown under the bus, have his career disected and yet she's still hanging around the man that did it and is grateful he didn't mention her. Rida needs to tell Siobhan before it gets out of hand.

Yes they are definitely introducing PPP story - not named in the programme but the BBC gave our a helpline for it after, so reckon we'll see more in coming episide.

Good to see Jake being Jake. Whatsit asked him how Iain was doing - Jake says "badly" and walks off. Go easy on the detail.there Jake!!
