Really enjoyed Cain's restraint brushing past Tom unnerving him, he's always such confidence that he's clever enough to get away with it. Being hit would have Tom in full on victim mode.
To be fair to Lydia (whose perhaps wary after wrongly backing Samson) and rest of non believer dingles they showing well how the abuser also manipulates friends & family and can appear the nice guy. Tom has made good use of Belle's MH vulnerabilities to help cast doubt and they don't want to falsely accuse him as he seems so caring and reasonable to them, had he been more thuggish i.e young Cain it may have been more believable to them than he'd treat Belle badly. It's a shame Belle didn't open up to the MH unit lady on her return from Scotland.
