Why is it not a sausage shape? Spotted Dick is rolled in muslin, surely? ANd why syrup - I've never had syrup with spotted dick, what Prue and Paul had was more like a syrup pudding.

I so want a steamed pudding now...

I assume the syrup is because they don't want 1.5hrs of dead time while the puddings steam - and custard isn't enough to fill the time?

Wonder if you can still get that syrup sponge in a tin?

You'd normally steam a pudding for up to 5 hours so in 2 hrs 15 you'd have to get it on the hob quick and leave it there as long as possible. The cracks suggest they didn't make it wet enough, but a wet mix could take longer to cook through, so I suspect it was on the edge of being an impossible task in the time limit.

Christian's flavours are consistently a bit off.
