Hobnobswantshernameback · 19/08/2024 19:34

Any news yet on when the new series is due to start?
can we expect the same presenting/ judging line up as last year?
Do we think the Hollywood handshake will return?
And please god no tacky theme weeks

You've just brought back memories of dessert after Sunday lunch at our house. One of these two or very occasionally.a birds trifle packet mix!
Also tinned fruit cocktail with condensed milk!

Wasn't it evaporated milk with tinned fruit?

Can't take to Georgie. She really irritates me

I agree
there was something a bit off with her in tonight’s episode
smug & condescending towards Illiyan
and did not quite catch her remarks to Dylan re how many awards ?he had got … she reminded me of my school play ground days

It was in our house.

Christiaan is one of those bakers who surprises you that they're still there, because they've never really stood out or done anything amazing. But never made a massive mistake either.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 12/11/2024 21:57

Something that struck me from extra slice last week was Sumyah saying they are in the tent for 12 hours both days.
What we see is so edited to within an inch of it's life that I try and cut some of the apparently "snide" comments or a baker apparently giving someone the side eye and think that shot may not even have been filmed as a reaction to the comment we think it has and has just been edited to llok
that way.
Im sure some bakers are dicks but they clearly all get on well and help each other out and from previously series you can see people do genuinely make friends for life.
the producers will have their narrative to sell
and that is always going to skew things

I remember thinking Georgie wouldn't last long because in the first week she said she didn't believe in weighing ingredients.

Same! She really has come on so much, I was very pleased for her to get star baker as I think she really has improved and didn’t get much recognition throughout the other episodes.

Christiaan has come second a lot, I feel for him. He does well but never sticks out. I think Gill might pip him for the final if she comes out with something strong.

PrincessScarlett · 12/11/2024 23:09

@Hobnobswantshernameback yes that struck me too about the 12 hours of filming per day for just a one hour show. Sumayah said she was absolutely exhausted all the time. I can imagine it must be very very intense when essentially you just love to bake but are being asked to do things over and over.

Totally agree that all the side glances and stink eyes could be completely unrelated to the previous piece of footage.

Flossiecotton · 13/11/2024 00:03

I could not stand Alison Hammond bus she is was growing on me until the clowning around in the tent. I am sorised how much physical stuff seems to go on .

BeastAngelMadwoman · 13/11/2024 00:08

Aaah I love Georgie (maybe because I'm Welsh) and don't find her smug, irritating or condescending at all. I thought she was being really kind towards Illiyin! I'd like her to win.

Find Dylan so very irritating with the woe is me act. Describing that signature he did as messy? Pull the other one mate.

Love Gill and have warmed a lot to Cristiaan. Found Illiyin tiresome with all the tears tonight and felt she was the right one to go.

I'm sad there's only two weeks left!

hopeishere · 13/11/2024 07:54

I find Dylan so irritating and false. He knows he's good. His piping was not as good as Georgie's piping. Gill's looked fab!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2024 08:01

I like them all and was very sorry to see Illyin go. Was it patisserie for the semi-final? I think Christiaan is likely to be eliminated, but it could be anybody, really. They just need to have an off day.

I didn't hear of banoffee until the 90s.

Me either. I'm sure it became a fixture on gastropub menus around then. I was surprised to find out that it was from the 70s.

I am the same. Could not stand her and actually thought about stopping watching Bake Off when I learned she would be in it. But she has been much better than I thought she would be apart from last night.

She really is so full of herself and wanting attention

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 13/11/2024 09:12

I don't mind Alison. Noel I find excrutiatingly unfunny.

lazymum99 · 13/11/2024 09:25

Birds dream topping on tinned fruit cocktail.
And only saw banoffee pie in the 90s.
Blancmange 🤮 wobbly and horrid

MarkWithaC · 13/11/2024 09:31

Loved all the Black Forest gateaux.
Gill's showstopper was awesome. She's such a laugh too.
I didn't see Georgie being smug or otherwise unpleasant. I like her and I'm enjoying seeing her confidence improve and skills come out.
I'm fond of Dylan; he's intense and a bit gauche, but that's OK. His baking is genuinely original and he's very skilful.
Christiaan is going off the boil after a very good start.
Illiyin was the right person to go, but she's funny and I'll miss her. It obviously meant a lot to her.
I didn't think Alison was attention-seeking Confused They all clown around and have a laugh in the tent. It's quite intense and, I suspect, also quite boring, as a lot of filming activity is, and I think they all need and welcome a bit of light relief.
I find Alison genuinely funny, a bit naughty and very warm. She also brings out the best in Noel, who has always been warm to the contestants but IMO has felt the need to hide it in the past and to be 'funny'.

AnImaginaryCat · 13/11/2024 10:47

Not a fan of Black Forrest Gateaux myself, though it does give me fond memories of my first job, which was in a cake shop where I served a lot of it!!

Weirdly Christiaan just doesn't seem to be registering with me. It's like I forgot about him unless he's on screen. Maybe it's because I think he's different people due to the variation in accent 🤔

mydogisthebest · 13/11/2024 11:06

Not sure how climbing on to the worktop is not attention seeking. The show is about the bakers not her. She always wants the attention to be on her.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 13/11/2024 11:24

I like Dylan, he's a perfectionist and what we see as good he'll see as a mess. As a perfectionist myself I have the same feelings when I do a cake that others think look amazing, all I see are the bits I've messed up. Also why shouldn't he be proud of what he's achieved? Georgie is no different but she's getting a free pass for some reason.

Gill falls down in the first two parts and then brings out something good in the showstopper. I think she'll go next, unless she manages to impress in all 3 rounds.

Christiaan seems to produce stuff that looks good but he always pushes the flavours which could be his downfall.

I think it will be Christiaan, Dylan and Georgie in the final.

hopeishere · 13/11/2024 12:54

mydogisthebest · 13/11/2024 11:06

They're probably asked to do stuff like that to cut into the baking bits. She was obviously mortified when she fell off.

I think she's warm and funny. She obviously steps in next week to give Georgie a pep talk.

RudolphsDashing · 13/11/2024 13:22

I LOVE Alison, she's so warm and genuine and funny. She brings light relief, it's not a serious baking show after all, it's family fun.

I must remember family fun means climbing onto a worktop because in my70 years I have never ever seen the need to do so. But then I am not an attention seeking, fake idiot. There is nothing genuine about her, even her laugh is fake

I am sure everyone will think it hilarious when their child copies her and climbs onto the worktop.

There is lighthearted and there is showing off to get attention. Mel and Sue never saw the need to do that nor did Sandi.

benid · 13/11/2024 14:01

I think Alison is fab - so warm. I hadn't seen her on TV before she joined GBBO so didn't know what to expect but I think she's excellent for the show

Bit of cats-bum-mouthing going on here Grin
It's a light-hearted thread about a telly show.
