Just started watching the new season. Was she this thin in previous series’? I’m kind of alarmed. I know she’s always been tiny but I don’t think this thin.

I've just remembered the producer is Darren Star of Sex and the city fame. So no wonder the females are all at it like rabbits lol 😂

Flashcardsagain · 17/09/2024 09:16

Tbh I've found Sylvie the star of this season. She is amazing. I would love to look like her at 60. I won't. But it's nice to dream.

tennissquare · 17/09/2024 09:56

@Flashcardsagain , me too, she really carries the show.

stayathomegardener · 17/09/2024 10:55

It's a remix of Sex and the city and will they won't they Rachel and Ross in friends.

I actually find Emily incredibly callous with the feelings of others and a complete liability at work.

Her outfits and inability to master basic french is also ridiculously annoying.

But perhaps I'm just old, I loved Carrie in S and the City when it first came out yet see her in the same way as Emily now.

Still binged watched it all in a week Grin

Adore Sylvie.

It would be wonderful if the show over the seasons just got more and more French until she was fluent and the entire thing was subtitled.

It's ridiculous when you have French characters speaking English between themselves when she's not there. There is also no way they'd conduct client meetings in English, she would just be expected to catch up. This is France ffs, the country that uses ordinateur because they refuse computer

Portakalkedi · 17/09/2024 12:32

Love it for a bit of mindless fluff, but Emily's outfits are 99% absolutely awful, and very far from realistic (not sure how all this stuff would fit in her flat, let alone the cost). Don't like the Mindy character, she's a poor actress and dresses like a streetwalker. By contrast the French women look so much classier, but I guess that's the point? I'd actually prefer to see a spinoff without Emily and Mindy!

I agree, but I think viewers don't like subtitles or stuff not in their own language (or mostly) so it would relegate the show to a different category.

Try Call My Agent! All French, subtitled, bloody brilliant 👌

Newgirls · 17/09/2024 17:18

took me a while to spot Rupert Everett - he’s always good

loved this series. Love the clothes, mindy, luc, sylvie etc. bonkers and brilliant

Meredusoleil · 17/09/2024 17:26

Season 5 has just been announced and Emily is with Marcello in Rome!

TossedSaladandSE · 18/09/2024 15:49

It really really annoys me that Emily isn't speaking fluent French by now

Anyone who works abroad and is surrounded by people speaking the local language will have picked it up in 6 months let alone the length of time Emily has been in Paris

It's a massive flaw in the show

WomensRightsRenegade · 18/09/2024 16:45

The woman who plays Sylvie grew up in Italy so no wonder she has flawless Italian!

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 18/09/2024 16:49

Sylvie is just fabulous! Love everything about her.
Not to keen on the new Italian fella - he’s not a patch on Alfie.
I have loved seeing Rome it’s a fresh change.

Yes, have to agree. Although I do like Marcello, I did prefer our Londoner Alfie ❤️

UmaNipples · 21/09/2024 10:41

I like Sylvie too but she's a bit of a fantasy figure of a sexy older French woman. There would be nothing at all in the show without Syvie and the office characters and Monday the flatmate. I liked the move to Rome for the visuals and I love seeing Paris looking so glossy so far, but I don’t know if I will bother watching it next time.

Emily is such a hollow character creation. I know nothing about her except she works all the time. Shes like an avatar for the show advertising clothes and product placement. When the English guy Alfie says to Gabriel after G and E split up, ‘Emily’s the greatest girl in the world’ I was really confused. In what way? What personality is he seeing that we aren’t?

Also this show is so superficially written that you can bet Camille adopting a baby solo will be handled super badly Hmm

Yes, I agree, I love the show, but the bit about her being the greatest girl, etc, I thought the same. How have they shown this. She's not a very "deep" person. I don't see much personality either.

Flashcardsagain · 21/09/2024 10:48

I'd love a huge reveal to be that the chef is secretly controlled by a skilled rat who lives in his hair.

UmaNipples · 21/09/2024 12:21

I have been thinking that Gabriel’s hair looks like a brown wig this season so I think you’re probably right about that

New2thisshizzle · 21/09/2024 12:24

She can’t learn French otherwise the show would have to be subtitled. That’s not the market they are going for.

New2thisshizzle · 21/09/2024 12:25

I love Sylvie but she’s also a cliche, her arm walk is annoying.

UmaNipples · 21/09/2024 12:30

I thought when Emily said to Marcello she’d never been to London what a hilarious thing it would be if they next did Emily in London
Imagine the massive cultural stereotypes they could base the show around in the UK. Actually I hope they do this forever

Emily in Edinburgh
Emily in Cardiff
Emily in Belfast

You realise the amount of time in the show isn’t a long time, maybe a year max? It isn’t so much a massive flaw as by design.

If you work in a francophone office, you speak French after a year (admittedly with a horrible accent) or you don't work there anymore ;) From experience! It's not like working in Oslo or Zürich

Delatron · 22/09/2024 16:04

I did enjoy this series. Went off Gabriel quite a bit as his hair looked dodge and he was mainly grumpy and fawned over silly Camille.

I actually like Marcello! But I love an Italian..

Loads of plot holes but then it is supposed to be lightheaded. It is really annoying that she hasn’t bothered to learn French though. That is the most unrealistic part of this. And how hard would it be for them to just write in a bit of an improvement for her? It’s just lazy.
