One summer evening in 1984, a five-year-old boy disappears in the countryside of southern Sweden. The police investigation fails to find the truth, leaving rumours, suspicions and a grieving family.

Twenty years later, the boy's older sister, Vera, is leading a group therapy session in Stockholm, when a young man describes a strangely familiar childhood memory of a disappearance.

A shaken Vera travels home to her shattered family to find out, once and for all, what really happened during the never-ending summer.

Not sure if this is a repeat. The storyline seems familiar.

I liked him as a credible character too. There were more than a few nice little touches like that.

Can someone explain if the uncle Harold will go to jail for Tommy’s murder?

Dawndarkness · 08/08/2024 19:24

Really enjoyed it. What was the significance of the car crash? The mother was such a strange character treating Vera as second best

Just finished it, no her it over 2 nights, loved it and gasped out loud at THAT scene!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/08/2024 22:31

** edited - watched it over 2 nights

I think it was just setting the scene for Magdalena and Tommy being “together”. Although Harold tried to use it to make out like Tommy had done it on purpose and to sew the seed that Tommy was abusive and controlling.

Matthias was the brother wasn't he? I liked him. There was a bit where him and his dad both sipped a beer in unison and it was genuinely clever and poignant.

Lovely,wasn't it? 😊

Fully binged! Omg I couldn't step away. Two very poor casting choices in Matthais the charisma free polis, and the poundshop Russell Brand she was supposedly in love with.

Everything else was brilliant. Izak's leather jacket needs a spinoff series. I thought it was all so cleverly done, although I wouldn't have expected estranged yet slightly sexy siblings to to banging shots and having a loud confession session in a motel dining room at teatime.

I want Vera's Y2K wardrobe. And her little bug car.

I thought Matthias was perfect, just like his Father the complete opposite of Tommy who had all the charisma.

I suspect that there will be some sort of trial, and he will get a suspended sentence or something based on the arguement that he was so emotional because of this concern for his sister.

And the local jury will not want to get on the wrong side of his self belief in his right to be in control.

Or alternatively he has a total breakdown and goes of to lead a life of quiet contemplation to reflect on how his behaviour caused most of the terrible events to happen.

Unless Harold admits to what he's done and where he put Tommy nothing will happen to him.

Oh thank you that makes sense. There seemed to have been a thing about Harold having Magdalena name removed from the report but never really understood why. Great show though

It's a while since I watched it. So yes if in fact it was only the audience shown what had happened he could get away with it.

But didn't the other man coerced into taking part own up to what had happened?

I've just finished watching this & my goodness how sad it was.

Hated the mother, Vera & Harald!

Poor Ebbe!

Just one little question, if anyone is still around: who took the photos of Magdalena, Tommy and Billy? Was it Sailor? If so, why?

MathiasBroucek · 31/08/2024 15:40

I just read the book (coincidentally. Good, but not as good as the first book in the series (different characters) called Rites of Spring

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2024 16:14

He wrote several books. Rites of Spring comes before this one? They are all named after seasons.

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2024 16:15

Oh sorry. Misread your post!
