How child friendly is it meant to be?

Last week was all cute little fat babies and both DC loved it.

Would like to watch it with them again tomorrow, but not if it is likely to freak em out (seeing as I still get flustered about Daleks, I know how it can stay with you )

CT was awful It was a rubbish episode made even more rubbish by her.

Nyeh · 13/04/2008 17:40

That makes me feel lots better knowing it wasn't the same guy

When watching CT all I was waiting for was "Am I Bovvered?" and "What a Fcuking liberty"
She is too much like her characters from her show does anyone else think this? Don't get me wrong she is a good actress (sp) but Dr Who isn't her thing.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 10:56

"she is a good actress"

Is she??

She needs a better bra. All that running around Pompeii and she was bouncing about everywhere. No proper support at all.

AitchTwoOh · 14/04/2008 10:56

but she was great at the crying thing and her character is actually rather impressive in the way she stands up to the doctor... it's just those freaking character voices. why isn't the director stomping all over her? i noticed on the first confidential she didn't do them during the read through with RTD but they appeared later.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 10:57

I wanted to shove her head first in the volcano when she said "well I might just have something to say about that..."or whatever it was. [shudder]

AitchTwoOh · 14/04/2008 11:01

completely. WHY isn't she being stopped? but the crying was good. it was, wasn't it?

ReginaFalange · 14/04/2008 11:02

yues she is a good actress at the comedy thing

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 11:03

IMO the crying was a trifle over done.

If DT can get shot of his Scottish accent so well, why can she ditch her, um, common-as-muck -fishwife one? She didn't sound that bad when talking normally on Confidential. She is ruining it.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 11:04

They should have had Sally Sparrow, not Donna.

marina · 14/04/2008 11:08

So there are some advantages to hauling dd upstairs to read Maisy books instead then...
Agree, Steven Moffat is the one to get behind the sofa for (or even with). The man is a genius. Interestingly, also a parent of young children (something I suspect 99% of the production crew aren't ) - so he certainly knows what makes them scared!
I don't like DT and I don't like CT, alas. Wish he had recruited SuperSarah from last week.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 11:09

Lots of fun was had in the Dragon House after Blink... [happy sigh]

Actually, I think all the creeping round after the SmallDragons and then freezing made it less scarey for them [vain justification]

AitchTwoOh · 14/04/2008 11:14

well of course it should have been sallysparrow. she was perfect. and i think she would also have stood up to the doctor etc as well. why didn't they choose her, the idiots?

marina · 14/04/2008 11:16

edam made an excellent point about Dr Who Confidential. Ds watched all of the first series aged six and was soon appreciating the use of green-screen like a true connoisseur...and having the "make-believeness" of it all reinforced

soupy, do you let dd watch DW? do you think that her bros seeing it makes it okay? am thinking of not letting dd watch next week's one.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 11:23

She's not interested in it. I don't stop her though (mind you, she goes to bed at around 7 so it's not a major issue). I don't actually think at 2 they know enough to be scared by this sort of thing. As they get older (4) they have more of an imagination which I think makes it scarier for them.

Flamesparrow · 14/04/2008 12:24

DS loves it, the week before more "Baby!! Baby!!! Baby gone ", I agree that it is the 4 yr olds who get more flustered.

But then as a general rule, if a 2 yr old is scared they WILL let you know.

We used to watch any films with DD wandering round. Once every couple of weeks we would head over to Psycho's have a takeaway and a dvd. She was about 18 months when we were discussing when should we start putting her to bed so she didn't take in very unsuitable films. Decided it was probably ok for a bit longer, and pressed play on Dawn of the Dead. The first zombie came on screen and she SCREAMED! We decided that that was the night

AitchTwoOh · 14/04/2008 13:30

ah. i have the answer. i proposed that we watch DW Conf and dd said 'no don't like DW monsters too scary' and requested charlie and lola on iplayer instead.
i wish it was on a bit later so i could get her to bed beforehand...

MegBusset · 14/04/2008 13:43

I like CT!

Perhaps it helps that I have never watched her comedy show so I'm not really familiar with her characters (apart from Am I bovvered, obv).

I hated the doe-eyed Martha rubbish, and was a bit fed up with the Rose love-in too by the end (I thought Rose and Chris Eccleston was a much better partnership).

Also I think CT's body is fab, I love the fact she has proper tits and hips.

SueBaroo · 14/04/2008 13:49

A very firm thumbs-up for CT here, too. I hated her sketch show, but I love her in DW.

Although I wasn't keen on the Christmas episode, but that was because I thought the Racnoss was crud.

'Ooo, look at the giant spider standing in the corner waggling it's front legs. I'm overcome with... erm... a strong sense of the ridiculous'.

saltire · 15/04/2008 15:47

I like the fact that CT is, as Meg says "proper tits and hips". I also like the fact she isn't mooning over the Dr and going into jealous huffs if he speaks to another woman.
However, the voices are doing my head in. I am honestly waiting for an "am I bovvered" to appear in an episode.

SoupDragon · 17/04/2008 11:05

DS2 (7) said "I've just seen Donna on TV playing someone called Catherine!" Bless him.

PortAndLemon · 17/04/2008 11:13

I'm another one who likes CT so far (much against my expectation). But, again, I never really watched her sketch show. Maybe this is the factor that's dividing the pro- and anti-Donna factions?

SorenLorensen · 17/04/2008 11:17

I like that CT is not skinny, I like that she's not conventionally 'pretty', but - bloody hell - I wish she would stop BELLOWING all the time.

We record it first, watch it, then decide if it's OK for ds2 (6) to watch. I vetoed "Blink" then dh let him watch it when I was out. It scared him witless and he kept getting out of bed to tell us so for weeks afterwards. Dh trusts my judgment now
