Strictly Come Dancing '24 Thread 1 : Who will be our celebs and Pros?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/07/2024 20:45

Starting a new SCD thread for chat prior to the series as the last is about to fill.

These threads are usually helmed by @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and I normally deputise, but I haven't seen her around in a while

This thread will discuss who has been chosen for the show, but not who has been paired with who as that's a spoiler for the first show.

This is a NO SPOILER thread

@FailBetter

I haven't stated any rules about videos - do we let it go and see if anyone complains? 🤔

Ah bugger. I forgot!!
No, you're right.
I haven't been on the video thread for ages.
I'll post it there then come back here with a link then have it deleted.
I don't think he has talked about being gay before.
His dream celeb Graham Norton! I would love to see that actually.
I want to petition Graham now <3

Amy and Carlos interview mentioned upthread on this one! Mwah! Xx

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/07/2024 20:32

Norton's too big for it, he'll never "need" it the way most do

No worries. Have reported so just awaiting the mods now.
I know Graham doesn't need it but he didn't really need to do Drag Race either nor did Alan Carr.
But neither will do it, I don't think: they're both more than aware of the goldfish bowl hyper focus it brings. Would be good though. I still hanker after Rylan as a contestant but he said no way, Jose. He was so good at picking up steps on It Takes Two. Have you seen him au naturel without the hair dye recently? He has lovely reddish hair.
I wouldn't mind seeing his Mum on Glitterball tbh - she makes me laugh on Celeb Gogglebox. I feel like she's a sleb in her own right now.
I'm surprised they've not had a Goggleboxer on yet.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/07/2024 20:44

I really enjoyed the Rylan and Rinders Grand Tour program, you could tell Rinder absolutely adored him. I'd love him to do it but that pro

Wouldn't it be easier if they shut down the whole thing as it seems that women are being abused with some regularity? Just shut it down.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/07/2024 20:47

Posted too soon :

I'd love Rylan to do it but that program with Rinder revealed he's got a few issues relating to his time on X Factor and probably is avoiding a similar set up

I’ve just read that the footage released shows Zara being kicked, hit and spat at - if this is correct, this is utterly horrific. This should never have been allowed to go on.

Lentilweaver · 15/07/2024 22:37

Oh FFS. What a pathetic man.

JemimaTab · 15/07/2024 22:43

He has some brass neck, I'll give him that. Suing the BBC because they "allowed" him to be violent??
The BBC may have some blame for not protecting Zara. But that doesn't absolve GDP.
It's ludicrous.

Arconialiving · 15/07/2024 22:47

He is really now showing what a vile man he is!

Taytocrisps · 15/07/2024 22:50

Aside from the bullying allegations, it must be awful if you don't gel with your partner and/or you just don't like them. Especially when the show format expects the couples to fawn over each other and gush about how amazing their partner is.

On a lighter note, I'm a big Aljaz fan, so I'm very happy to have him back.

And I'm very curious about the celebs. When do they start to announce them? I only ever know two or three of them. I don't follow the soaps and I'm too old for the influencer/boyband types. But I enjoy getting to know a bit more about them and meeting their nans families etc. I was a big Whammie back in the day, so I'd love it if Andrew Ridgely was on it.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 15/07/2024 22:51

I have no words. Well I have one. Vile.

Taytocrisps · 15/07/2024 23:01

He's obviously hoping for a payout. His lawyers might argue that the show's producers put pressure on the dancers to get the best possible performance from the celebs and he cracked under the pressure.

The article states that production staff raised concerns last year, but the show's producers just issued quiet warnings. If those details are true, then why are they only taking action now?

Charlize43 · 15/07/2024 23:06

I'm really disgusted that the money I'm forced to give to the BBC is being used in this way - to pay someone to abuse women.

Not so long ago my money was used to buy sex pics from a vulnerable young 'person' and in the past has been used to sexually abuse children.

None of these things I agree with.

When are we going to get a referendum on abolishing the BBC TV Licence?

tennissquare · 15/07/2024 23:14

@Taytocrisps , the HR Dept have only recently become involved.

JemimaTab · 15/07/2024 23:18

Surely no court would award him damages? It would look like rewarding / excusing violence, and I don't think anyone wants that precedent.

You aren't forced to give money to the BBC.

Nor is money being used to pay someone to abuse women, witness the fact that he's been sacked. Do you check on the employment records of every person in every single company to whom you pay money? I bet you'll find considerably worse if you do.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 16/07/2024 00:23

I am so disgusted by his gaslighting bullshit.
I cannot abide anyone over the age of around 9 who uses a "they made me do it" argument for hitting. Not only that, he kicked and spat her too. What the hell?

I had read that he was given a warning previously because of being overly strict or whatever, but they were now going through any video footage of him, Gio and an as-yet unnamed pro due to some concerns being raised in the wake of the Gio/Amanda scenario.
They then saw what Graz had done to Zara and it was clear that it was unacceptable so he was sacked (or possibly resigned on the spot). Apparently people were shocked, and some ended up in tears.

Poor poor Zara, I can't bear to think how she's feeling 💜

It occurred to me that there haven't been any complaints from sports people contestants. Now that may well mean they are used to bullying training, which isn't good, but might imply that expectation levels are different amongst different groups of celebs.

But why would that matter? Is there any evidence anyone had unrealistic expectations? The only complaints that are currently public are the ones made on behalf of ZM and those made by people with bad experiences with Gio. These include both celebs and other professional dancers and symptoms of physical illness have been reported. It doesn't sound like they just thought it would be less work at this stage.

Also pretty astonished at the fact he is suing! Everyone kept saying the pampered celebs couldn't stand the pressure of the professional dancing world but it actually seems to be the professional dancers who were unable to stand the pressure of the professional dancing world. They need a better screening process for the pros.
