The Our Girl Addicts Thread 72 Stay focused, Stay alert, Stay alive and carry on....spying

Ilovelblue · 10/07/2024 21:34

We started to follow Our Girl back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of Soldier Soldier to keep up our military terminology and have galloped through the three series of of The Musketeers. There was a definite connection between Our Girl and The Musketeers in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. We are currently part way through series 8 of Spooks. Having recently witnessed the demise of Adam Carter in the last series, he has been replaced by Lucas North.

We are in the final stages of series 9. We start series 10 very soon.

Watch out there's going to be a scene in the cottage hospital. Mrs C and Old Lady G are about to come to blows.

eejittwo · 06/11/2024 21:40

Tell me when to look …

Rhubarb01 · 06/11/2024 21:40

A miracle and Mrs C was right. What does Old Lady G think now?

Rhubarb01 · 06/11/2024 21:42

I keep forgetting their names so now I'm going to refer to Mrs C as Isabelle and Old Lady C as Violet.

Matthew you are going to have a valet whether you want one or not. You need to respect that for servants this is their work, career and home.

Rhubarb01 · 06/11/2024 21:44

We're going to need a new thread for the next episode and maybe need a new or revised title as well.

Rhubarb01 · 06/11/2024 21:46

Looks like Matthew will get comfortable in this new role after all.

eejittwo · 06/11/2024 21:46

Indulging in a little history before our next visit to Our Girl?

Exactly what I was thinking there!

Any ideas for a new name and words around the description etc?

See my suggestion above.

Ilovelblue · 06/11/2024 21:48

I was forgetting it's less than an hour with all the adverts cut out.

Rhubarb01 · 06/11/2024 21:49

This is going to be an uneasy partnership I think but fun for the rest of us to observe. I enjoyed that. Plenty of tension brewing above and below stairs.

Of course, without adverts the episodes only run for 45 minutes, so we are finished up a bit earlier.

Indeed, we know how they liked to include the history bit into each series of OG - literally in the final series with the Afghan history lecture.

Ilovelblue · 06/11/2024 21:58

I might incorporate the fact that this autumn is our 10 year anniversary. That is right, isn't it Rhu?

Yes, it is ten years since we started with the first series of OG. Blimey! Well, we're still here and making our own fun!

Ilovelblue · 06/11/2024 22:10

Going back to the Trump win, at least the good news is that he won't be able to stand for a third term!

I’m so glad I found you! It has been fun. BTW - has anyone seen RIVALS, specifically LP?

Will respond later Grin

Strictly opinions this year...

Chris - not the best dancer now, but he is amazing and Diane has done a brilliant job with him. I'm not sure if he'll get to the final or not, but he's always high in the polling on the strictly spoiler, so I wouldn't count against it. I reckon semi's at least.

JB - I quite like him and thought he was good doing his couple's choice. It will be interesting to see him this week dancing with Lauren again and doing a proper ballroom or Latin dance. Will see how he gets on and decide. Shame about Amy, but she probably needs to rest and make sure she's really fit again.

Shayne - I think he's not bad. I think the dance-offs have been a bit unfair as he didn't deserve them. However, I don't get very excited about watching his dances. Can't see him getting as far as the semi's.

Pete - I don't enjoy watching him dance. - it's the hair and tattoos that put me off. He seems nice and I'm sure he is, but the dancing doesn't do much for me. However, he's obviously got tons of fans keeping him in.

Sarah - I think she's really good and will continue to do well. I reckon semi's for her. Obvious she's got some kind of dance background because she's so neat with her feet and legs all the time.

Tasha - equally, really good. Her dance training shows through, but given that others have gone a long way with dance experience, I don't see why she shouldn't do well. I do enjoy her dances each week and she seems a nice girl.

Montell - I really like her and think she's doing very well with Johannes. She doesn't have the dance experience of Tasha and Sarah but she's adapting really well and has the competitive spirit. She did not deserve to be in the dance off. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Jamie - he's very good but he leaves me a bit cold most weeks and what is it with his shorts! Not only wearing them for practice but he's had at least two routines wearing them and it's not a flattering look at all. I'm not an Eastenders fan so perhaps that's something to do with it. I don't often get behind the token Eastenders actor each year.

Wynne - I think the initial excitement around Wynne is waning a bit. I don't think there was anything in all that stuff about him having his hand on Katya's waist but it feels like some of the fun and enthusiasm has gone out of his performances now. Given how much they are all draping themselves over each other every week, it was bit of a nonsense to pin that story on him.

If I had to pick the last four for the final I'd say....Jamie, Tasha, Sarah and Chris

Going back to the Trump win, at least the good news is that he won't be able to stand for a third term!

What I'm fearing is that if he and the Project 25 group tinker enough with state machinery, constitution and even electoral rules, there may never be a truly free and democratic vote again. I really hope I'm wrong. I've heard some opinions today that it might not be as easy for him to do the stuff he plans, but he's got some staunch right wing nutters behind him and they might be worse than him. If he should stand down, be taken ill etc they would be left with Vance and he's a dangerous but clever weirdo. But yes, under the current rules he would not be able to stand...let's hope that continues!

It's gonna be a nail biting and infuriating ride, I think. I'm going to have to avoid the news quite a lot I think or my blood pressure will rise.

I've seen the first episode about a week ago. LP was in it but didn't feature majorly in that episode. It was OK but didn't enthuse me enough to continue immediately. I will go back and watch the rest. The Rivals thread is very busy, but to be honest, I just don't care for the Rupert Campbell Black casting, so haven't rushed back.

That's looking increasingly unlikely - re: the garbage truck door handle episode Grin

Rhubarb01 · 06/11/2024 22:55

Downton does have a military connection or at least it does in series 2 and the household is run on almost military lines with a clear chain of command and hierarchy. They practically line up on parade when required too. Carson is very much Sergeant Major - not quite an officer but definitely to be respected and obeyed.

Hello ladies. Although not able to do watchalong this week I have read all your comments and enjoyed. Also like the suggestions for title of new thread. Unbelievable that OG began 10 years ago and that we are still "soldiering " on keeping its memory alive.

On the subject of Rivals I have watched the whole thing and must say I wasn't overly impressed. Agree that the "hero" is miscast. Apart for anything else actually looks a bit aged at times. LP features in one or two episodes but really hasn't got a large part. He does quite a reasonable cut glass English accent and of course as eye candy he is just the job.

Ilovelblue · 09/11/2024 10:01

Morning all

I'll get some words together for the next thread over the weekend and need some new photos. A slight change of direction may attract different contributors, who knows.

Ten years! I feel we're all friends even though I've only met Rhu and that was only the once.
