Paul Heaton regularly puts money behind the local bars where he's playing, he did it round my way last summer.
If he's difficult to work with it'll be because he's an obsessive musician, goes with the territory. But I fall to see what that has to do with the quality of the music. I admit I'm biased!

Is Kasabians set on Woodies going to be on iplayer does anyone know?

I was on the live Woodsies coverage yesterday so I imagine so.

Love Jo W, agree don't think Michael Eavis had any idea he was on screen, was sad to seem him looking so unanimated 😔

Only just caught up on this, I’m not sure he knew either, that whole segment with CM singing about him was cringey and clearly more about CM than Michael Eavis, very sad him looking so poorly 😢

why is no longer the John Peel stage?

Eavis disclosed that the John Peel Stage, which replaced the previous named New Bands Tent in 2005, will now be called Woodsies.
Eavis said the decision was part of a push to name stages after the fields they stand in, such as West Holts and Silver Hayes.
but this coincided with a petition the year before about Peel being problematic
In 1989, Peel told the Sunday Correspondent: “Girls used to queue up outside. By and large not usually for shagging. Oral sex they were particularly keen on, I remember. […] One of my, er, regular customers, as it were, turned out to be 13, though she looked older.”

why is no longer the John Peel stage?

Because he fell out of favour for being a perv with young girls in the past.

GellerYeller · 30/06/2024 10:57

@MurielThrockmorton I watched Confidence Man. We saw them live as a support act and they seem to work better and make more sense in this setting. Those veiled hats are a great idea for the people in the crowd calling in sick and not wanting to get caught on telly😂

I like Jo Whiley. She’s knowledgeable, clearly respected by the artists and flying the flag for women in her industry. Which shouldn’t be a thing, but, you know, the patriarchy.

Peanutbutterfan · 30/06/2024 11:13

Just been looking on iPlayer & I can’t find Keane under any of the tabs & none of their songs are featured in the ‘must watch tracks.’ What’s going on iPlayer?

Aquarius1234 · 30/06/2024 11:14

Typical BBC ignoring John Peels behaviour for decades.

IPartridge · 30/06/2024 11:29

Reading through the thread comments from last night - very confusing! 😄

What's everyone watching today?

sugarbyebye · 30/06/2024 11:34

I'm catching up on Orbital. Tilda Swinton is such a legend.

Just had a look at todays lineup and I will be flitting between west holts and woodsies. Looking forward to Kim Gordon.

sugarbyebye · 30/06/2024 11:57

It's a shame they're not broadcasting the early stuff. There's a lot of good things first on.

PeachyKeane · 30/06/2024 11:58

Peanutbutterfan · 30/06/2024 07:50

YES! I so agree with this! They need some new blood. I always find the presenters quite annoying anyway but they need to give someone else a go.

Disagree with this ageism, there's room for everyone. Women do not need to be shoved aside when they're in their 50s ffs

sugarbyebye · 30/06/2024 12:16

Wow 50yo Mel C at Orbital making me feel like a massive frump. Those abs!

GellerYeller · 30/06/2024 12:38

Sorry to derail but for the Paul Heaton criticism earlier, just remembered he sent unsolicited donations to Q Magazine staff(think it was Q anyway) when they were made redundant.

sugarbyebye · 30/06/2024 12:46

Paul Heaton - the George Michael of Salford!

DaveWatts · 30/06/2024 13:27

Loved Seasick Steve, so glad they showed his set!

I do wish iplayer would get their act together though. And I don't understand why you can't watch all the streams from the different stages in full afterwards - missed a lot of Heilung and they haven't put that back up anywhere. And why does everything say 'live' even when it was two days ago? Makes it so hard to find what's actually playing now. And they should definitely be labelling by stage not artist.

GellerYeller · 30/06/2024 13:39

Weren’t there people upthread who had links to BBC staff? IPlayer is SO bad it’s impossible to navigate. With all the BBC spend it’s baffling.. Can’t they open up BBC4 and 3 earlier temporarily for events?

I know and the man’s not exactly earning Taylor Swift money. Don’t forget he split all his royalties between those five south members as well.

the80sweregreat · 30/06/2024 13:47

Paul Heaton asked his accountant if he could pay more tax ! His a legend and i think his great !

AuntieMarys · 30/06/2024 13:56

Seasick Steve was terrific. Paloma looks and sounds fantastic. Love her backing singers

PeachyKeane · 30/06/2024 13:59

Watching Kasabian on iplayer atm, under "indie"

Looking forward to James at 3pm. Saw them a couple of weeks ago and they were amazing.

Then Shania at 3.45.

Then come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Westfacing · 30/06/2024 14:16

I love Paloma Faith but she's currently massacring Mama Cass's 'Make Your Own Kind of Music'!
