Is anyone watching... Listen to Beeny

Tutter · 16/04/2008 20:00

roots, sarah!

expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:05

are they EVER going to show someone who just completely fucks it up and totally takes a bath on this show?

or is it always going to be how they made reams of money?

yawn. Traffic Cops is more fun, especially because they usually bust someone who goes all ghetto and makes a twat of themselves.

ellingwoman · 16/04/2008 20:05

I've got so much to do but there's 3 hours of telly to watch! Property Ladder, Child Genius and Desperate Housewives.

What a night

chocolateshoes · 16/04/2008 20:08

I love the fact we can see her roots - makes me feel good!

ellingwoman · 16/04/2008 20:14

What I don't understand is that no one ever listens to her advice but they always come out with a big fat profit. You'd think she'd be embarrassed by now and just stay quiet.

expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:16

taht's what i don't get, elling.

and why i sort of lost interest.

hippipotami · 16/04/2008 20:22

Ah, but they make a profit because any addition to the house still will add value, and because most of this was filmed during a time when property prices were going up anyway. So even with doing nothing a profit was made...

But I would LOVE to see an episode where the people mess it up completely and make a huge loss. A change from the standard programme will be lovely

hippipotami · 16/04/2008 20:23

pmsl - hypnotherapy to help with plastering...

expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:25

exactly, hippi! that's what made me lose interest in the show.

always the same: don't listen to the beeny, go way over budget, still get some sucker to give you a fat profit on the pile.

MrsDougRoss · 16/04/2008 20:25

there was an episode years ago where 2 mad women spent thousands on tiles for a cloakroom, the house was terrible, they never make loss because if it is really bad they end up living in it.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:26

yes, Mrs! i remember that one. the one sister was away with the fairies. she sounded like she lived in Entonox-ville.

and the house looked like a cat had puked in it.

and they wanted like £900,000 for it.

Lucycat · 16/04/2008 20:27

the lovely art deco one on the outside?

truly barking!

MrsDougRoss · 16/04/2008 20:28

that was the one!! wonder what happened to that house. Hyponosis did not seem to work he does not like plastering

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:29

yeah, it was art deco on the outside and LSD trip on the inside.

and bad trip at that.

Nagapie · 16/04/2008 20:31

Wasn't that the one with the purple handpainted tile bathroom??

expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:41

yes, and the aqua-coloured Smeg fridge.

naffotastic!

MrsDougRoss · 16/04/2008 20:46

glad it is not just me that remebers old episodes, it really stuck in my mind, it was such a bad house.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 20:47

it was one of the worst.

and they stubbornly thought someone was going to pay top whack for it.

there was another bloke who wound up living in the place he did up.

he botched it.

Nagapie · 16/04/2008 20:51

Off topic a bit, there was another programme on Channel 5 another station, where there were two teams who spent the time trying to make the most amount of profit from property development...

The big idea by one pair, was to have a painting party - invite all their single friends around, get them sozzled and give them paintbrushes to paint the flat they were refurbishing..

The results spoke for themselves...

hippipotami · 16/04/2008 20:53

I remember that nagapie - the results were just awful. And the estate agents that came to value the property instantly picked up on the fact it had been badly painted.

Did make me that one!!

MrsDougRoss · 16/04/2008 20:57

do we think that these are ever serious buyers. DH thinks they are dragged in from the street. Wish whoever built my semi had thought about sound proofing.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2008 21:03

i think they're stooges, tbh, mrs.
