Disney + 10 episodes have dropped today 🤗

I can’t find the original bear chat thread (and I think there was more than one?) 😢 so created this one.

Feel free to join in after watching. For s3 to avoid spoilers, state which ep you are on so others can scroll by if they want to!

Happy watching!

Loving ep 1 - featuring my all-time fave restaurant Daniel in NYC - an amazing dining experience 🥰

Can’t wait, going to start it tonight when DH gets home. Brilliant timing to drop it during the break in the footie.

DH is recuperating from an op so decided he wants to watch from the start. We’re up to ep2, s2 so I’ve had to pause so we can watch together. Tbf, it’s so good I don’t mind!

(No spoilers) We watched S3 E 1 and it was an absolute visual feast. Very evocative too. And meditative. Beautifully shot and paced.

MuscariFan · 28/06/2024 19:06

Three episodes in. My God, it’s not relaxing TV … 😆

KatPurrson · 28/06/2024 22:27

(No spoilers) S3 E2 Something of a change of tone and also pace. I don’t know if I have ever related so hard to an episode of a TV show.

I realised that all kitchens are controlled chaos, with varying degrees and methods of both controlling and harnessing that chaos.

And that’s probably why, like Carmie, I found working in and around kitchens such a refuge, because my home and family life was so chaotic. It was both a physical escape through change of place and a way to seek ever increasing ways of regulating the effects of that chaos, both internally and externally.

Discipline, camaraderie, focus, connection, skill building and a creative outlet fir the inside as well as respect, earning money, a routine and performing a functional role on the outside.

So, strangely enough, I did find the episode calming.

I’ve watched 4 and I’d agree.

I went to a particularly wanky restaurant on one of the canary islands which had a dish called ‘A tribute to prehispanic goat herders’ and watching this has brought it all back to me 😂

I think that’s why I found the Xmas ep in s2 so hard - growing up with a narcissistic parent amongst utter chaos meant I sought order in every part of my life so can relate to the green tape and exacting standards.

Ep 6 - directed by Ayo Edebiri - is a beaut.

I’m generally finding this season quite challenging; episodes demand a lot of concentration. And maybe some of it feels less naturalistic. Sometimes I can feel the writing - as if they’ve jettisoned some of the accepted mores of TV. Dunno. It works better with wine, though.

Netaporter · 30/06/2024 00:09

I’ve finished the season. It was beautiful. Unexpected, challenging, emotive and continued to be deserving of all of the awards.

Jamie Lee Curtis. Wow. Now that’s how you grow old gracefully in Hollywood. An acting masterclass 👏👏👏

I’ve only watched 2 episodes so far and we’re disappointed. I absolutely loved the first two seasons and I’m wondering if it actually needed a third at this point. I’ve spent my life working in chaotic shouty kitchens and really enjoyed the tension and chaos in the first two seasons. Season 3 episode 1 felt like a mash up of all the bits we imagined but hadn’t seen from the first two seasons. I hope it gets better. 😳🤞

BetsyRegards · 30/06/2024 08:48

Jamie Lee Curtis. That was certainly an incredibly brave performance.

Ayo Edebiri is twenty eight

And I could watch Lionel Boyce (Marcus) gazing at a flower or a dessert for ever.

The whole thing was - rich. Worthy of many reviewing before S4 happens.

imfae · 30/06/2024 11:06

Have binge watched all the episodes . No spoilers .

Thought it was a great series . It certainly isn't lighthearted . Those that haven't watched all of it - you are in for a treat and was great seeing more of the background of the characters .

Absolutely loved Jamie Lee Curtis this series . The acting from her and others was superb . They have already given the green light for a fourth series - can't wait .

I’ve loved it all. Ep 1 as mentioned upthread was a visual feast. The series fills in backstories, explains some known unknowns and much more IMO. Keep going….!

I've only watched episode 1 of season 3 and thought it was a masterclass. How can one programme emote so much!

I can only watch 1 episode at a time because I find it so overwhelming!

Totally agree. One episode a night is as much as I can manage.... so exhausting. Episode one was stunning.

Raaraab · 06/07/2024 18:39

I love The Bear. And I think the Tina character is played beautifully. And Richie.

But some of the dialogue is unedited and self-indulgent - like when Fak and his side-kick visit the hospital. I felt quite embarrassed watching it.

And the long comic interludes with Fak just aren’t funny.

They rushed this series out. And they have overplayed the humorous banter.

user1471538275 · 06/07/2024 18:52

I'm going one episode at a time. It's heavy duty watching.

Last season's 'fishes' I had to walk away at times because it made me feel sick - that tension and fear, waiting for someone to kick off, too close to home.

I'm left with the feeling that people really underestimate the skills and resilience of people working in kitchens and restaurants and also that for all that hassle and perfection, I'd rather have a sandwich.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/07/2024 21:05

worried about this series as 1 and 2 were so amazing!

Are we allowed to talk about spoilers yet? Watched the entire lot and need to discuss!

Have to say I love the choice of music tracks though.

Can't wait to catch up.
