Disney + 10 episodes have dropped today 🤗

I can’t find the original bear chat thread (and I think there was more than one?) 😢 so created this one.

Feel free to join in after watching. For s3 to avoid spoilers, state which ep you are on so others can scroll by if they want to!

Happy watching!

Jamie lee Curtis was astounding

am here for the syd and Luka pairing.

I didn’t love it as much as the first two seasons but my god it was still excellent

Watched the episode with Natalie in labour last night and it was beautiful. Jamie Lee Curtis amazing. Not ashamed to admit I cried.
Series 2 was incredible but this was slightly slower and loved the back stories. The one with Tina and Michael was equally brilliant and you could see why he was such a loss.
How many Faks are there......😂😂😂

dizzyupthegirl86 · 09/07/2024 07:35

I cried through a lot of that episode too!
I seem to be alone in thinking the Tina episode was just ok. It was nice to see backstory but we already saw her evolve during season one and two, whereas the Richie equivalent really showed his development a lot more

Dd and I watched the final episode of S3 and can’t believe it ended like that!

Overall felt it was difficult to follow up after 1 and 2 (which were excellent) but still good. However they spent the entire season building up the review etc and nothing was resolved. I know there are some possible clues but I still felt the story didn’t quite progress, some parts felt very self indulgent.

A couple of really standout episodes though was Tina’s and the one with Sugar in labour - what an actress Jamie Lee Curtis is, absolutely amazing.

Poor Sydney, she needs to just leave and be somewhere where she’ll be appreciated. The relationship with her Dad is just beautiful. Oh and love Marcus too, he’s so calm and although he’s grieving and throwing himself into his work he’s not angry.

Carmy - feel sorry for him but he’s turning into the arsehole NYC chef and can’t see it. Hate the way he ignores everybody’s suggestions - especially Sydney, and she now has so much anxiety. As Uncle Jimmy said “I’m missing a golf club, is it stuck up your ass?” 😂

I do like Richie, his character has really developed since S1 when he was annoying. Hope he and Tiffany from the Ever restaurant get together.

@fretaway great review!

It was a good series. The last episode was a nice ending. I look forward to the next one. Presumably, they have already filmed it?

To be fair that Richie episode is up there with my top 5 best episodes of tv ever. At the end when he's in the car singing his heart out to Taylor Grin

Very much this!

dizzyupthegirl86 · 09/07/2024 12:26

The woman from ever is called Jess, his ex wife is Tiffany. Which has suddenly made me remember Josh hartnetts cameo!

honestly I thought the John cena cameo was pointless and distracting.

Raaraab · 09/07/2024 12:47

There was a lot of stuff that should have been edited out @dizzyupthegirl86

Oh yes sorry, you’re right i got the names mixed up, it is Jess!

Agree the famous cameos were distracting. Every single time dh would walk into the room and say something like “what’s [insert name of famous person] doing there?”.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 09/07/2024 13:21

Although I always quite fancied JH so may let that particular one go!

dizzyupthegirl86 · 09/07/2024 13:37

i didn’t mind Josh hartnetts cameo coz it was pretty low key and kinda made sense within the story. I thought John cena overplayed it and with the faks also overplaying it I found the whole thing a bit weird!
they pushed the faks a bit too much, the humour was more subtle before and better for it.

im still surprised we didn’t get to see Carmys dad this season, there was a lot of talk of who could be cast and he just was never there!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 09/07/2024 14:01

Ahh are the Faks the two brothers? One of whom is always referred to as My Love? Yes, the whole "haunting " thing (what even is that?) was irritating

fretaway · 09/07/2024 14:47

There were too many Faks! I didn’t mind them at first and I suppose they used them for light relief but a lot of it went on for too long. Some sharp editing was needed.

Loved 1 and 2 but 3 was a real struggle and not sure how they will do series 4.

4 was recorded with season 3… it apparently got so big they had no choice to split S3 in two,….

I’m intrigued!

managed to finish this
it was good,
not great
i hope series 4 comes out soon

EasternStandard · 05/08/2024 23:26

Late to this but half way through series and struggling

It seems really bad compared to 1 & 2

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/08/2024 05:32

it is not the same is it @EasternStandard

It’s really far off and hard to watch

The cousin is incredibly irritating and the swearing scenes are grating

The first episodes had warmth of character

Worse still I convinced dh to re subscribe to Disney plus to watch it, should have read this thread first!

Raaraab · 06/08/2024 10:08

I have sat with it for a few weeks and I think that it is still good. Just rushed. And the comedy / farce is misguided.

It is good enough that I will go back and watch the first episode again. The Jamie-Lee Curtis episode was very moving.

And the unfolding of Carmy as a toxic chef is clever and well set-up. The storytelling on The Bear is very special.

I wonder where the push came from to develop the Faks and if it was the same place where the casting of Claire came from - maybe American-style writing by committee?

APurpleSquirrel · 01/09/2024 23:30

DH & I loved s1&2, but are really struggling with s3. Watched eps 1-3 over the past few nights. Really disliked ep1 - just felt like a rehash of the previous seasons with a few extra bits, all cut up together with little coherence. Ep2 was ok; a bit more tangible storyline but a lot of shouting back & forth, of exactly the same dialogue. Ep3 tonight - again rapid scenes cut together with little coherence. I get it's trying to emulate the frenetic energy of a kitchen but it just felt overly indulgent. Like if the restaurant isn't making enough money, you have a conversation between all partners, not two lines of dialogue yelled at each other.
Really hope Ep4 it improves as thinking we might just give up.
