Review
Has anyone else seen this?
Wow, what an unbelievable story, can't quite believe I've missed it on the news.
Anyone with an interest in personality disorders and true crime will love this.

Imposter: The Man Who Came Back from the Dead review – the absolute zenith of true-crime TV

Fascinating and terrifying, this tale of a man who woke from a Covid coma in Glasgow accused of being a serial sex offender on the FBI’s most wanted list is the most bizarre, mind-boggling true-crime series yet

Does anyone know how he got rid of the tattoos?
Haven't watched it all as dh read about the case and knew the outcome.
I did once meet someone who had had tattoos removed and from memory, there were no visible signs or scars left. Yet I’ve seen other people and it has left scars.

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/05/2024 06:40

Not seen the tv show but remember reading about it when he was arrested. Crazy all round. Will definitely watch the programme.

The hospital identified the tattoos in 2021 so we know he had them but that's a lot of work to have them removed and a lot of money (something he could have easily swindled from someone else)
I don't know the time gap between the hospital identifying him and him first rolling up his sleeves.
I expect data protection has stopped a clinic coming forward to say they did it.
I'm guessing it was still faint but he put concealer on it. There are lots of concealers especially for tattoos that don't rub off.

KitKatChunki · 23/05/2024 09:16

@Garlicked I am doing similar in between jobs.
Just started Ep 2 and the American guy looking at his Wiki is typing with his forefingers though😱
Need to stop being distracted. I keep re-seeing him zooming off without the oxygen canister shouting at her he wasn't connected...so so weird.
Going to be a rabbit hole day!

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/05/2024 11:54

I agree that Miranda knows the truth. That scene where he is being interviewed and says he’s wheelchair bound but shouts he will try and stand and does that brief standing up and collapse back down while flailing his arms about while she flaps. He stood up too quick for a bloke who is genuinely wheelchair bound and can’t stand. If he was really in a wheelchair all the time he’d have much weaker muscles and would have been a lot slower/weaker. I reckon he walks around at home.

The breathless way of talking isn’t convincing either, I’m a midwife and have cared for sick People with low oxygen levels and he doesn’t talk like the people I’ve cared for.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 23/05/2024 12:35

Utter fucking weirdo. Abusive, deluded little creep. The wheelchair & oxygen props need permanently removed. Close up shots of the tattoo sites shown. There were shitloads of tattoos and couldn't just be erased. Maybe they had a layer of prosthetic skin on when the Irish journalist saw. However fingerprints famously don't/can't change. What an utter sleazy little creep. How the fuck did he get into UK?

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/05/2024 13:49

I hope they televise the trial, apparently he’s insisting on representing himself. Will be interesting.

VaddaABeetch · 23/05/2024 18:24

& Miranda is a nut job too. I guessed who Louise was

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/05/2024 18:44

Miranda absolutely knows. I wanted a reporter to ask her about the tattoos. The nurse said he absolutely had them in hospital when poorly with Covid. So he’s had them laserd off and she knew him before.

im really hoping with the publicity a tattoo laser person comes forward and said they removed them.

KitKatChunki · 23/05/2024 21:07

Wow. What a creepy nasty man.

I thought it was interesting his siblings clearly wanted nothing to do with it, presumably in case they ended up back in his sights.

What brave women.

He's exactly like the diagnosed narcissist I know too - the bits in the first episode when he was belittling everyone and that smug attitude, the constant excessive posing in pictures...mine even left a country he was living in, arrived without warning then blamed me!

That bought a lot back.

TaraRhu · 24/05/2024 20:56

His accent was hilarious part Scottish,English , odd bit of Irish and American.

How did he manage to get married? You need ID surely?

moulinrogue · 25/05/2024 11:21

So many questions! Not least how he got away with it for so long. I mean, he's wily and manipulative but some of this weirdness seems to be his life's mission. "The game's afoot" my arse!
He was so quick to 'correct' the wikipedia post! He manages to blacken the name of the prosecutor because the local sheriff's office don't want Leavitt to win an election; extreme ridiculous claims are taken seriously. Crazy! He's a very damaged, dangerous individual. Let's hope he's banged up in the USA for a long long time.

CoralWreath · 25/05/2024 11:23

Same. That leather throne like chair is very similar to the one my ex used to pontificate from. There were many other similarities.

I remember years ago listening to Professor Sue Black talk about how tattoos change your DNA, that would be one way of proving that he was tattooed, although could it be that they were rub ons?

I agree with PP, the scar on the forehead is always there.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/05/2024 11:28

I watched it, the tattoo thing was really weird, can they really removed tattoos now with no scarring, not even slight scarring?

Why they were going with tattoos over finger prints was weird!

I also was waiting for some twist that, after getting the more liberal candidate voted off and death penalty voted back in, that he might reap what he sewed there. Not fitting to the crimes we know of, it seems.

Very important that this show gets made though, as I imagine he could ruin many careers if he isn't easily google-able for who he really is.

ladybirdsanchez · 28/05/2024 15:26

Yes, that confused me too. Surely he entered Ireland/the UK on a tourist visa back in 2016 (or whenever he came in) and so was here illegally once his 90 days were up. Did he marry as Arthur? Did he take her surname after marriage? Is their marriage legal? So many unanswered questions ...

But the Irish journalist's reveal about 'Louise' really changed the impression that had been given of Miranda. Up to that point, I'd have said she was a deluded fantasist, afterwards you could see how the two of them ended up happily married - they're two peas in a pod.

Garlicked · 28/05/2024 18:44

He forged any documents he needed. Seems to be pretty good at it, too - even some journalists have said he has Harvard degree when he didn't even go to university! IIRC, he had two names in Ireland. Had another Nicholas identity, then changed to an Arthur.

Knight is Miranda's birth name. It's unlikely they're legally married. He was married at least twice in the US, and only one divorce has been mentioned.

I don't think he had them removed! You can buy very realistic silicone sleeves/gloves, and you can get the gel to make your own from Amazon. It looks and feels like skin.

But he’s in prison, surely he’s been examined to check this?

Garlicked · 29/05/2024 16:44

Yeah, I'm betting he's got the tattoos in prison - nobody said he hasn't, and the narrator said he "admitted" he had the tattoos when he was arrested.

Smoke & mirrors - he SAID he had no tattoos, loudly and often. Was never seen in short sleeves. Did a dramatic "look, no tats!" performance for the Irish journalist, who was filming it. Remember he pulled his sleeves up slowly, like a stripper? He could've just walked wheeled out the house in a t-shirt, but he made sure the reveal would stick in your mind.

MorrisZapp · 29/05/2024 16:51

This was the best documentary I've seen in years.

'you don't have to kiss my ass to get a requiem mass' is unforgettable. Not to mention the mosaic kennel.

Crazy.

Garlicked · 29/05/2024 19:24

Coming back to the blasted tattoos again ... the journalist's visits to their home were after his hospitalisation. Rossi claimed, ridiculously, that he was tattooed while in a coma at the hospital. So it would've been reasonable for him to have them when she visited.

He was just milking it for fun, wasn't he? Making a fool of her (and us)!

That’s a very good point, his arms were bare…..but maybe that’s part of the story. So he got tattooed while in a coma and very soon after discharge and before the journalist came he had them lasered off. 😀
