Review
Has anyone else seen this?
Wow, what an unbelievable story, can't quite believe I've missed it on the news.
Anyone with an interest in personality disorders and true crime will love this.

Imposter: The Man Who Came Back from the Dead review – the absolute zenith of true-crime TV

Fascinating and terrifying, this tale of a man who woke from a Covid coma in Glasgow accused of being a serial sex offender on the FBI’s most wanted list is the most bizarre, mind-boggling true-crime series yet

His dad saying he beat him up black and blue and is surprised he didn't kill him when he was 12

purpleme12 · 22/05/2024 22:07

His dad story seems so strange

BovineUniversity · 22/05/2024 22:18

I'm on the Dad part too. It's really grim.

KitKatChunki · 22/05/2024 22:24

Which channel is it on please?

I already knew quite a bit about this case from my solicitor friends in Edinburgh.

The TV production team have done a bad job with structuring the story imho. The time jumps are confusing, even for those of us familiar with the narrative.

The wife is clearly deluded. The sort who would write to prisoners on death row.

Nicholas Rossi clearly has pathological delusions of grandeur. Thinks himself like King Arthur or a Knight of the round table or suchlike. The Sherlock quotes and the smoking jacket. I tell you something, Scottish sheriffs do NOT like people making the court into a spectacle. The Naked Rambler also got short shrift when he tried his stunts up here. (Insisting on coming to court naked and representing himself with bullshit quasi-legal arguments albeit I did sort of admire his commitment to his cause).

Restinggoddess · 22/05/2024 22:38

Hopefully justice will be served in the USA
His victims have waited too long

I did google tattoo removal as I done think they explored this sufficiently

And his wife is no innocent in all of this debacle

Blackcats7 · 22/05/2024 22:41

The revelation from the irish reporter at the end was the best bit I thought.

purpleme12 · 22/05/2024 22:42

So this person said that a tattooist came into the hospital and tattooed him while he was in a coma?!?!

NotADailyMailJournalist · 22/05/2024 22:56

What I don't understand was why he was released on bail at ANY point given he's an obvious flight risk.

I also don't understand why they relied on fingerprints and tattoos. I mean, take a DNA swab and compare it to the one taken at the rape(s).

NotADailyMailJournalist · 22/05/2024 22:58

Staggering to think this creep is still only in his 30s!

At least they give proper sentences for rape in the US. Not like here.

NotADailyMailJournalist · 22/05/2024 22:59

Also - don't they ID you before performing a marriage ceremony/granting a marriage licence? Is his marriage to Miranda valid?

purpleme12 · 22/05/2024 23:05

So his actual dad slit the family dog's throat?!
Well you can see where he might get it from!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 22/05/2024 23:05

Interesting documentary.

purpleme12 · 22/05/2024 23:06

The kid was born evil he said

purpleme12 · 22/05/2024 23:09

He tried to say this person ate children
Fucks sake

EmilyGilmoreenergy · 22/05/2024 23:23

@NotADailyMailJournalist you have nailed it about Miranda being the sort to write to death row prisoners.
I don't think she came across like a victim in the same way as the other women, she was totally into the delusions and seemed to get a buzz from it all but I appreciate she was probably vulnerable to such a man.
He licked out meeting her and probably didn't abuse her because she never challenged him and just played along.

I'd like to know more of her background and wondered why she wouldn't face criminal charges, she must have seen his tattoos and known he wasn't paralysed for a start off.

It was all nuts the Dad, the Coogan guy, the podcast journalist getting lured in.
Fascinating but also disturbing.

The end bit in an Utah court was odd, like the judge didn't know anything about him calling himself a different name, not much faith in that system.

purpleme12 · 22/05/2024 23:56

That bit at the end in the court where it just seemed to start all over again!

NotADailyMailJournalist · 22/05/2024 23:57

Fucking embarrassing how the Utah judge hadn't even read the basic facts of the case before starting his hearing.

Fully agree that the woman in England should have had her rape trial before he was extradited.

And yes it's totally outrageous that he was able to swan into the UK and Ireland, despite being a convicted sex offender and getting driving licences and marrying people.

I'm going to put this on my list of cases to google periodically. Want to find out if he does indeed get convicted in the USA.

Mind you, it's interesting isn't it. I mean presumably Miranda will want to move to the states? If she's not eligible she basically just never sees her husband again? (Assuming he's eventually banged up for life)

purpleme12 · 23/05/2024 00:03

I'm a bit confused about the ins and outs.
So there was no actual death certificate and no one was bothered enough to check? Or was one faked?
What about a body for the funeral?
He must have had a passport to get to the UK
Did he just decide to go by a different name when he came here? Presumably he didn't change it legally?
Just confused by the ins and outs of it all
Did he work? Would he have needed to show his passport to work?

salsmum · 23/05/2024 00:24

Didn't they have his fingerprints from previous arrests? Surely just take his prints again??? 🤷‍♀️.

purpleme12 · 23/05/2024 00:26

They did didn't they
Isn't that one of the reasons they knew it was him

Garlicked · 23/05/2024 04:56

Just finished episode 2 so am not reading the rest of the thread yet! I wanted to thank you, @Smokedsausagesupper. I wouldn't have heard of this if not for your thread, and I'm fascinated!

The Guardian reviewer's right, all the people involved are born for TV. It makes it such an engaging watch, full of vibrant personalities - except, oddly, the psychopathic manipulator. He must be someone whose presence is felt more in person.

So far, I really like that Coogan guy and strongly dislike Miranda. All the reporters talk about how lovely she is, but she struck me as utterly fake. I googled her a bit to find out some more and it turns out, yeah, she's a massive con artist too. She might also be deluded but - so far - I reckon she's in it for the ride, not some misguided devotion to a pretend husband.

Isn't Nick Rossi an awful man!! I suspect I'm going to have to cancel most of the day so I can finish the series and then read some more about it 😬

Justleaveitblankthen · 23/05/2024 06:00

Binged on this last night.
I was gripped and liked how the timeline flipped around and new Victims and participants were introduced.

Yes to the Irish Journalist's end revelation being both a shocker, yet totally obvious in hindsight.

Won't say any more though. 🤐

EmilyGilmoreenergy · 23/05/2024 06:05

How long before he declares himself to be a woman 🤦🏻‍♀️.
