That's interesting about the quality of Rapanui. A couple of years ago I was looking for the equivalent of some fabulous t-shirts that were gifted to my DC, I can't remember the brand name but they were Canadian and wonderfully thick and soft material. Loads of people recommended Rapanui, although I didn't buy any in the end because the style wasn't right, I was looking for v-neck and elbow length sleeves.

One reason I make so many of my clothes was that I got fed up of clothes fitting in the shop and shrinking on first wash, even expensive clothes. Why they don't prewash all washable material is a mystery. Presumably cost but I'd pay a premium for prewashed clothes

i saw a recent interview with Patrick Grant (talking about his book) and he said that all the Community clothing socks are pre-washed, which adds to the price, but it is completely worth it for the purchaser.

I saw that article too - apparently it adds 60p to the cost of a pair of socks to prewash them. SO not a lot in the scheme of things if you are buying a decent pair of socks but a lot in the case of a Primark £3 for 5 pairs...

Ailsa has posted on her instagram page about the designing of her trousers - unfortunately they're self designed rather than from a pattern we can buy

Ailsa has posted on her instagram page about the designing of her trousers - unfortunately they're self designed rather than from a pattern we can buy

She says her inspiration was Japanese Hakama pants - that’s what I mentioned upthread. There are a few patterns online but they’re mostly traditional and the main changes Ailsa made were to the waistband. Hakama pants generally have a tie belt and the back is sort of a raised-up flap.

There's a site that sells patterns for the pants, though not with exactly the same waistband that Ailsa drafted. This video explains more - the third image is most similar to Ailsa's trousers, I think. That section starts at about 3.55 into the video.

Finisterre have good quality t shirts.

Just marking my place for tonight’s episode. I’ve been getting into it so much this time I’ve forgotten to look for a thread in here!

I think the people to go have been good choices so far. Also wasn’t a fan of Janet and judging by her goodbye not many of the other contestants were either!

SoupDragon · 11/06/2024 17:34

its recycling week this week isn't it?

Emotionalsupportviper · 11/06/2024 18:54

LaBelleSauvage123 · 07/06/2024 20:56

Yes, they’re not great quality unfortunately, though I’ve managed to keep mine from shrinking by washing them on 30. The designs fade very quickly. We need to use them for a Transformation Challenge!

That's shocking! I've just looked at the site, and the stuff isn't cheap, either.

Yep, though it seems to be every week. I'm expecting a tuxedo made of old curtains at some point.

"This week you need to make matching skirts and dungarees for 7 children between the ages of 5 and 16 from second-hand curtains. They need to have enough freedom of movement to allow the climbing of every mountain and the fording of every stream. Also, if necessary, a covert escape from armed fascist troops. You have 4 and a half hours."

Grin That's a lot of models if it's the made to measure challenge.

You’ll also be looking after the children at the same time.

Bags again!

SoupDragon · 11/06/2024 21:03

Blimey. Quilting. Is 3 hours realistic?

oh, not quilting as such. This is new to me

CrushingOnRubies · 11/06/2024 21:05

Not heard of this concept before, I like the look of them

Chrysanthemum5 · 11/06/2024 21:05

Oh I assumed it was quilting as in sewing larger pieces together in a pattern. I've not seen this style

Emotionalsupportviper · 11/06/2024 21:05

A rainbow-effing-striped bag! 😡

Oh - bore off, Luke!
