So glad Janet has gone! She won't be missed.

Thing is Janet wanted to do what she wanted and not follow the brief

I agree, and it's hard to see her developing in the competition when she didn't really get the riviera brief.

Rebusmyfire · 04/06/2024 22:08

See you next week fellow viewers.. hope all the outfits you wear this week swish like Ailsa's trousers.

Popfan · 04/06/2024 22:13

If I was Pascha I'd be a bit annoyed that Ailsa got garment of the week with trousers and no top! I bet she's wishing she hadn't bothered with her top now!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/06/2024 22:28

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's Fold Line on YouTube to see whether they can find a pattern for Ailsa's trousers. Not that I could either make or wear them as I think they suit the slender and long-legged, not my whiskey barrel shape.

That jumpsuit is not made to measure! There's no fitting at all!

It's far too big around the bust, which is the one place it's meant to fit.

What a fab proposal! Just lovely

Amazing so original

I think it might be these, but definitely worth checking the foldline. I loved those and Pascha's

I bet the average charity shop won’t turn up ones as nice as some of these though.

I loved the white with blue dots that was used for the garment.

I agree that Janet was due to go, but I'm not sure about criticising her safety pins when several of the others didn't finish either. Maybe it was the editing.

I got the strong impression of no love lost between Janet and Esme. Though Esme seemed quite abrupt and dismissive throughout tonight's episode.

SoupDragon · 04/06/2024 22:48

They made actual sailor trousers as the pattern challenge one year didn't they? The buttons on the front were the fastenings on a flap.

OutOfTheHouse · 04/06/2024 22:49

In Janet’s defence it must be bloody annoying when you are really stressed and wanting to get on and you have people all up in your shit.

TinselAngel · 04/06/2024 22:50

Janet's tinkly laugh about her "many experiences" 🤢

JuneIsBustinOutAllOver · 04/06/2024 22:57

I’m Janet’s age….

She so much reminded me of the Victoria Wood character who kept saying “I’m mad, me” as she avoided the instructions.

As someone has to go out each week, I think it was right that it was her.

JuneIsBustinOutAllOver · 04/06/2024 23:07

Also slightly annoyed tonight at how often Esme said, “It’s a real shame that… (you didn’t finish/the hem wasn’t finished/you ran out of time)” when it’s not the sewers fault the task isn’t given enough time.

It may not be Esme’s either, but still.

She criticised Janet for using a safety pin, but, in Janet’s defence, she’d allowed a whole 15 minutes to make one buttonhole and the sewing machine didn’t cooperate.

It must be difficult for the sewers to get the timing right on the first challenge when they have no control over what there is to do and can’t practise it.

PickAChew · 04/06/2024 23:23

A quick loop of the binding would have circumvented the buttonhole issue, though and, done properly, looked intentional.

TheTripThatWasnt · 04/06/2024 23:36

Don's trousers were very well sewn. He's a good sewer, I think. He was hard done by on the first challenge- Marcus and Janet were way worse.

Looking forward to The Foldline blog! Reckon the Anna Allen Persephone pants and Helen's Closet Winslow culottes will get a mention. Maybe the Lander Pants too (Don's).

2Rebecca · 04/06/2024 23:59

Couldn't Janet have used hook and eyes, poppers or made a loop for the button or hand sewn a button hole? Also was the machine really not working or Janet not practiced at button holes? She didn't seen very resourceful and the fabric and design wasn't French Riviera.

JuneIsBustinOutAllOver · 05/06/2024 00:09

Janet could indeed have done an alternative to a buttonhole if she had known that she wouldn’t be able to get the machine to work, but she didn’t. After how long should she have given up and tried something else?

I was given a sewing machine for my 21st birthday in the 1970s which did brilliant buttonholes. I could easily do rows of identical buttonholes, and did. It had a piece of plastic like a shoe which snapped onto the foot and defined the size of stitching. Perhaps Janet was/is used to something like that? My current very expensive machine doesn’t make such good buttonholes.

AnnaMagnani · 05/06/2024 00:10

Given Janet isn't that great at sewing, they are all given excellent machines, and no one else had an issue with buttonholes, I am more than willing to believe the issue was Janet and not the sewing machine.

lollipoprainbow · 05/06/2024 00:16

Very obvious that Janet irritated Esme, I liked her she was fun to watch.

By the way not sure ailsa's amazing trousers would suit Esme!!

Fair enough.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/06/2024 01:34

I enjoyed tonight's. I loved both Don's and Pascha's trousers, but not sure I'm chic enough for them.

One little grumble — I do wish that they'd consider some mannequins that aren't cream! They're using a lot of natural/neutral-coloured fabric, and you can't see where the garment ends and the 'skin' begins. The pattern challenge tonight was bad for it, and Ailsa's trousers completely blended in at the end.
