I wonder what the Dutch fella is up to tonight. There must be an official after party - will he be allowed in?

Raahh · 12/05/2024 00:06

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2024 00:00

Well done Raahh did you smother your DH yet? Grin

I threw a hissy fit and decamped upstairs with the laptop.

iplayer has been crap, but it's better than ending up in prison for murder.

Ellmau · 12/05/2024 00:06

Olly got no votes because he had a poor song, sand it badly, and the staging/presentation many would have found distasteful (although tbf that doesn't usually harm your Eurovision chances).

Surprised but pleased France did so well, he had a lovely voice and the song was nice.

Not sure what it was about Switzerland that appealed to so many. It wasn't the worst song, but fairly mediocre.

BasiliskStare · 12/05/2024 00:06

Oh I thought Croatia were best by a country mile . I can't remember the Swiss song - but clearly what do I know 😁

Kendodd · 12/05/2024 00:06

C8H10N4O2 · 11/05/2024 23:56

Did I miss your campaign to have Azerbaijan removed from the competition?

I remember when Azerbaijan hosted years ago. That was really tense as well with loads of criticism from other countries and some political comments from country judges.

blacksocks33 · 12/05/2024 00:07

Oh I feel for Olly. Don't get me wrong I really didn't like his song, performance or the dancing (so basically I didn't like any of it!!), but I feel like he's not going to take that well. I remember when he announced he was doing it in tv last year he was so giddy, and that result must've been TOUGH! Espcially the boos! Where did they come from?! He had a lot of cheers after his performance!

Interesting how uk, Spain and Finland performances were very sexual or had nudity in some form and none did well.

I'm glad Switzerland won, preferred them to Croatia and loved that it ment the world to them! 😊

SocksAndTheCity · 12/05/2024 00:07

pootlin · 12/05/2024 00:02

The comment she was replying to said ‘So pleased our 12 points went to Israel. Sends a strong message!’ How is that attacking the Israeli contestant?

I meant the comments about and directed at her generally, not the content of that particular post.

You know, the death threats and that sort of thing; the stuff that meant she was forced to stay in her hotel room all the time for her own safety (and likely that of others)? It's beyond the pale that any participant should be treated like this.

newroundhere · 12/05/2024 00:08

SabreIsMyFave · 12/05/2024 00:02

How the F did this song win? It's shite! 😖

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it shite. People like different things, and lots of people clearly liked the Swiss song. Me included!

Youllnevergetabetterbitofbutteronyourknife · 12/05/2024 00:08

Roundandroundtheworld · 12/05/2024 00:03

So rarely that I really love a song and vibes, so truly believe Croatia should have won .

Totally agree. I really wanted them to win so I could do some not-so-cool banging! 😂

CelesteCunningham · 12/05/2024 00:09

pinkdays · 12/05/2024 00:03

Here's a thought

Just vote based on the music

It's the Eurovision, that's not how it works and it's not how it's ever worked. Grin

(This year may be dominated by the serious shit, but it's always been 12 points to the next door neighbours etc.)

YaMuvva · 12/05/2024 00:09

DramaLlamaBangBang · 11/05/2024 23:55

Eurovision has been used as a propoganda tool by Netenyahu, and she is old enough to know that. The Israeli delegation have by all accounts behaved appallingly during the contest- baiting other contestants, insulting other acts- both things would have got any other country kicked out. Abusing British or all Jews for what Israel is doing is obviously anti semitic. But objecting to Israel is just that. Objecting to Israel and their behaviour.

Evidence for any of this?

The Jewish conspiracy theories about controlling things beyond their power have happened before… about 100 years ago in Eastern Europe. Funny that

mathanxiety · 12/05/2024 00:09

Did anyone else love Norway's song and performance?

I honestly couldn't discern a tune there.

YaMuvva · 12/05/2024 00:09

SocksAndTheCity · 11/05/2024 23:55

Exactly! Some of the comments and behaviour directed at a 20 year old singing a song in a singing competition are a disgrace.

I also don't think Russia should be excluded - God knows the shit show of a UK government and their behaviour doesn't represent me or my views and I'd hate to be banned from something because it was assumed they did.

Absolutely.

Eurovision has always been political but organisers shouldn’t be encouraging that and Russia should never have been banned from competing

YaMuvva · 12/05/2024 00:10

pootlin · 11/05/2024 23:55

Eurovision are hypocrites for banning Russia but not genocidal Israel.

Seems like Palestinian lives are cheap but Ukrainian lives are not.

What about the women who have been raped and murdered by Palestine’s terrorist government?

mathanxiety · 12/05/2024 00:09

I did like it.
I am rather shocked that they got so few points.
I think her vocsls were amazing!

AngeloMysterioso · 12/05/2024 00:11

Coshei · 12/05/2024 00:02

Please explain how you came to this conclusion. I am genuinely curious about it.

You’re all upset that she did well and saying its disgraceful that she got so many votes, and it’s not because you don’t like her voice, it’s not because you don’t like the song, it’s not because you thought it was a bad performance - it’s because you don’t like where she comes from.

There. Does that explain it clearly enough for you or do I need to get out the crayons?

AGovernmentOfLawsNotOfMen · 12/05/2024 00:11

pinkdays · 11/05/2024 23:50

I think it's a timely message to many that Israel isn't as hated as you might think

Olly was dire

Well technically people should be voting for their favourite songs.
Not for their favourite countries or ideologies.

MsGoodenough · 12/05/2024 00:11

I voted for Israel and Armenia as I liked their songs best. The UK song was terribly sung and the staging was sleazy and grim; I'm not at all surprised it did so badly. I didn't mind the Swiss song and he is a good singer, and didn't take his clothes off, so I'll take it as a winner!!

YaMuvva · 12/05/2024 00:11

purpleme12 · 11/05/2024 23:56

Why are people saying there are bot votes?

Because it assuages their anger that people have different views from them.

They also buy into the conspiracy theory that Jewish people control all aspects of the media.

pootlin · 12/05/2024 00:12

SocksAndTheCity · 12/05/2024 00:07

But you’re agreeing with someone saying voting should be based on the music, and then contradicting yourself by saying she should get the points because of politics.

I think the boos were from the UK contingency, for not getting any points. That's that's what it seemed like? 🤷‍♂️

YaMuvva · 12/05/2024 00:12

InTheUpsideDownToday · 11/05/2024 23:56

No it wasn't
Switzerland is a deserving winner!

Well that’s your opinion but I’m betting it’s steeped in bias because that son by Switzerland was bland as hell

@Coshei i reported it too as hate speech.
But MNHQ rarely take these sort of posts down I’m afraid. We’ll wait and see.

Spottedshell · 12/05/2024 00:13

Gutted for Croatia, but did like the Switzerland winner a lot.

Me and DH especially liked the rap bits, being the hip 'n' trendy cool cats that we totally are.

It's been a strange old contest this year, and not in the usual good way. Roll on next year I guess.

C8H10N4O2 · 12/05/2024 00:13

Kendodd · 12/05/2024 00:06

I remember when Azerbaijan hosted years ago. That was really tense as well with loads of criticism from other countries and some political comments from country judges.

But very little here or from the public in general. Nothing like the attacks on Azerbaijani performers over the years that the 20 year old from Israel has experienced or even booing for their performers.

There is no comparison.
