This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

That's your opinion though, I'm a fan of the old episodes but love these new ones too.
Didn't like the first space babies one as much, but thought the second episode was brilliant.
Loved the villain

Same here.

And enough story setting to keep me intrigued. The one who wates. Plus the bill board advertising Chris waites. Linked?

I loved Matt Smith and his doctor. But I remember people saying the story was too complicated. It’s my all time favourite.

I’m 63. Been watching DW since I was 5. I can’t entertain the self-righteous, LBTQ+ based, history correcting writing, which has sucked the essence out of it. I had high hopes for the new Doctor , but no, thanks to the ridiculous scripts, his talent is wasted and the whole mess is even worse. It’s like some terrible west end production that gets pulled after the first run. I can’t watch until they change the writers, if that ever happens.

avocadotoaster · 12/05/2024 11:56

Loved it. DC who were a bit turned off by recent seasons loved it too.

I watched as a child and held watching parties for Eccelson and Tennant so feel I have my Whovian chops. Ncuti is wonderful (and gorgeous)

Loving him as the Doctor. Not seen him in anything before but he's definitely got the Dr's energy down.
Definitely gorgeous too! 🙂

SocksAndTheCity · 12/05/2024 12:32

I really enjoyed the Music one too, and I've been watching since the Tom Baker days. The babies were cute, although it didn't really go anywhere.

I'm not keen on the current assistant, but Ncuti just lights up the room 😊

Only watched space babies. Felt very... Disney.

That first scene with the butterfly had so.much potential and they squandered it!

Yeah, did think that was going to take a more interesting turn!

Miss Flood = Somebody Pond? = Relative of River Song?

zump · 12/05/2024 13:12

I know it's assumed that The One Who Waits is a villain, but that phrase made me think of Rory (Amy's husband) who waited 2,000 years outside her tomb. Rory becomes the father of River Song who marries the Doctor. Miss Flood has got to be linked in some way to River Song/ the Pond family.

zump · 12/05/2024 13:15

Just remembered that River Song used to be called Melody Pond and the second episode was all about the loss of music in the world (melodies). River Song is surely coming back?

Treaclewell · 12/05/2024 13:53

I noticed a couple of things, apart from they pronouns. In the babies one, Who made a point of telling them that "no-one grows up wrong" and then, also in the babies, they comment on the company stopping the baby production being illegal, and Ruby pointts out that they then do nothing for them when they are born. That is a direct comment on American attitudes, where some say "offer expires on birth" of the anti abortion crowd.
Wish they didn't have the babies in blue and pink though!
I suspect more is going to be made of Maestro, since H Arbinger appeared at the end of 2.

Aardbeien · 12/05/2024 16:16

Personally found the first episode part childish humour "oh great the ship farts" and part overly political (refugee comment)

The second episode broke any form of reality in universe with table dancing musical ending and the musical crossing of the street.

A shame because I like this new doctor, Ncuti seems great and I want to see him act. But the writing is so not for me anymore. Agreed that it feels more American now.

SoupDragon · 12/05/2024 17:03

Yes, the farting ship and the bogeyman made of snotty tissues just made me roll my eyes. Awful.

suburburban · 12/05/2024 17:56

I think Ncuti is best but I really didn't like the political bit in the babies episode

I want some escapism

suburburban · 12/05/2024 17:56

He is great

merryhouse · 12/05/2024 17:57

Remember Aliens of London? Farts and snarky political comment ("massive weapons of destruction") practically in the same paragraph.

This is RTD, and always has been (and those saying "bring back Tennant" - you do realise who was running the show for Lovely David, don't you).

I loved the musical number, was humming it all evening (tbf, I spent weeks singing "I could do this all ...DAAAAAY!").

I too pondered the significance of Chris Waites and the (can't remember, was it Carollers?)

So who is Henry harbinging this time? And will he still be Master Arbinger or will they ring the changes and make him Hugo Errold?

I remember the Aliens of London - wasn't that the one with the Slitheens who crash landed in the Thames?
Thought their farting wasn't funny either 🙄😁
Brilliant episode though.
Yes, the farting was true to form of past episodes.
The Henry Harbinger bit people are mentioning though is going over my head as I don't remember that reference?
I'm not completely up on all the classic Dr Who episodes though if it's mentioned anywhere there

merryhouse · 12/05/2024 18:04

Henry Arbinger was the name of the child in the piano lesson. He turned up peering round the door during the Twist At The End.

Ah yes, I remember now, thanks

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/05/2024 18:26

I've just seen Episode Two and thought the musical ending was dire.

I will give a chance though and bow out if it doesn't improve

Rummikub · 12/05/2024 18:44

Is the twist relevant?

zump · 12/05/2024 19:09

There's an actress called Susan Twist who has played different roles in several recent episodes (easily spotted because she's got a very distinctive face). Last night she was a tea-lady. So There's Always a Twist at the End means you can always see Susan Twist in the credits?

InMySpareTime · 12/05/2024 19:12

Is it noteworthy that Maestro means "Master"?
The twist at the end was like a screeching plot wrench, and jarred with the rest of the episode.

InMySpareTime · 12/05/2024 19:13

@zump we're the kind of people that read credits and also noticed Susan Twist at the end!

Ah this makes sense! That must’ve been what dd sent me. The pics of the same woman.
