Anyone wanna join in with the pre-screening goss and hype?

Me first… SJP has posted her run through nameplate on insta. But so has this actor - a rumoured love interest for Miranda? What do we think?

Definitely a less excruciating episode.

Random thoughts:

  • Carrie's novel sounds shit
  • Harry telling Charlotte she can't talk to her friends is unfair
  • the Table (it's basically a character at this point so I think it deserves a capital letter) is much less ugly in real life than the photo
  • the conflict between Carrie and Miranda as flatmates was pretty well done. They were mild annoyances but they just acknowledged them instead of making it into a tediously drawn put plot point. I like that.
westisbest1982 · 27/06/2025 12:32

I agree Miranda's selfishness whilst living at Carrie's house was contrived and for Miranda, it didn't ring true. I wish they'd done something subtler re their incompatibilities and as a result there being an argument between them, therefore referencing their two credible fights in SATC. All the lovely dovey stuff that goes on between the characters in AJLT adds to the beigeness.

I still don't give a shit about Lisa and Seema.

Holluschickie · 27/06/2025 12:46

Definitely a better episode.

Enjoyed the shoe parade though why is Carrie so self-centred? Rhetorical question.

Sick of seeing Cynthia Nixon topless.

Jonathan Cake is yummy though all the cliches about Brits have been applied to him: Grumpy. Smokes pipe. Drinks tea.

Do not give a shit about Charlotte and Harry or Lisa and Mr Lisa, so ffd that bit. Lily is incredibly obnoxious.

Why are they making all the men grumpy, possessive, useless in the home and Jeff Bezos lookalikes?

HotCrossBunplease · 27/06/2025 13:08

I thought it was a GREAT episode. 100% agree with @DappledThings’ take on the Carrie/Miranda conflict and it also puts to bed all the previous comments in this thread about why Carrie hadn’t invited Miranda to stay previously.

The heavy heels storyline also answered my own comment last week about how Carrie insisted on those heels for travelling to Virginia. I guess I’d forgotten how much of a heels addict she was (as opposed to just a fashion addict).

I particularly liked the writing of Carrie’s first encounter with her downstairs neighbour. Confident, did not let him bully her and “I’m not trying to be funny, I AM funny” was a great line.

I also really liked that Charlotte did not crack and tell LTW about Harry’s cancer. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of him asking her to stay quiet, it was a proper mature response and really underlined the contrast between spilling all the gossip about random new relationships/hookups and being married.

The only thing that jarred was Charlotte at the very beginning saying how she could not imagine being without Harry there every day, knowing full well that Carrie is a widow first and foremost. It was a bit of a clunky foreshadowing of the diagnosis and I can’t decide if it was in character or very much out of character. It’s also clear that they are totally airbrushing Big out of the narrative- see also the comments about Carrie being an apartment girl and needing her own space, with no acknowledgement of all the time she lived with her husband!

Holluschickie · 27/06/2025 13:10

Yes, how did Carrie manage to live with Big for years? He struck me as an immensely difficult man to live with.
If I recall in the movie 2, he was grumpy and old too.

myladyjane · 27/06/2025 13:14

I still don’t care enough re LTW and Seema although I thought LTW was a good friend to Charlotte.

i didn’t mind the Carrie/Miranda thing actually and liked that they acknowledged the fact they annoyed each other (since when did you eat yoghurt, since I was 50).

I always love Harry though and oddly I don’t mind the kids. I find Rock quite amusing, especially with Anthony (I miss cheese). As the owner of 2 teen girls, that insufferable-ness rings true albeit mine are considerably less privileged. The bit about the best croque monsieur was also funny.

i liked Carrie with the neighbour. She had some spark about her and they had stuff in common. Not a total bellend like Aidan even if he was grumpy. I thought the slippers were kinda sweet.

Holluschickie · 27/06/2025 13:16

LTW is a great friend to Charlotte. I just find her v boring or poorly written.
Charlotte should make Anthony parent her kids. He would do a better job.

CowTown · 27/06/2025 13:18

I’m not buying the Lily sharing her boyfriend plot. No way would my teen girls do that—share their bi boyfriend with a guy 50/50? Not a chance. Especially since Lily is such a confident girl.

CowTown · 27/06/2025 13:23

I cannot imagine tittering around my house in stilettos 24/7.

cardboardvillage · 27/06/2025 14:52

Cant she wear trainers some times? Stilettos are so old fashioned

That was what I commented last week. But having seen this week I think they were doubling down on this character trait. Even though it was not realistic it has been a constant Carrie trope since the beginning. The shoe removal at the end of the episode was a glimmer of hope though (unless you are a viewer who’s only there for the shoes..)

By the way, did anyone else think that it was almost certainly a stunt double for the opening montage?

FortyElephants · 27/06/2025 15:46

The shoes were lovely but FFS Carrie why are you wearing heels in the house full stop and why especially on your lovely hardwood floors?

Miranda is just annoying. Maybe she always was, but middle aged Miranda is just insufferable. I would not want to be her friend.

thank god for no Aidan.

the table was actually really nice.

Seema is boring.

Lottapianos · 27/06/2025 16:04

Loved that episode. So much of it was like the SATC series - brunch for 4, shoes shoes shoes, well written conflict, funny lines. SJP was particularly good this week. Loved the 'Im allergic' conversation! 😁

VERY hopeful about her and lovely beardy Duncan 😍 such a relief to have virtually no Aiden this week!

The table does look so much nicer than it did in the picture

foxyfour · 27/06/2025 17:24

Skipped to this point. Just watched the start. Carrie’s fashion and shoes - bloody fantastic.

greengreyblue · 27/06/2025 17:32

SPOILER
Just watched episode 5 and will give my comments before reading the thread.

  1. Carrie out of order for walking in an apartment with wooden floors in heels. It took so much for her to relent.
  2. The slippers were NOT nursing home style!
  3. Miranda naked for no reason at all….🤔
  4. Governor’s island should not be a mystery to native New Yorker’s!
But loved it.
greengreyblue · 27/06/2025 17:40

Also thought Mitanda eating Carrie’s food was odd. She’s not short of a few quid.

greengreyblue · 27/06/2025 17:41

I see that episode was written by Rachel Palmer. Have they all been?

No, it's the first time I've seen her name. Last weeks writer was Samantha Irby, and I thought it was one of the worst episodes ever

Lottapianos · 27/06/2025 17:54

Oh BTW, a geeky thing I noticed ...

Linda the bank official who turned down Seema's loan application was the SAME Linda the bank official who turned down Carrie's request for a loan after Aidan moved out!

Carriedoesntlivehereanymore · 27/06/2025 18:09

No way did that townhouse have a downstairs apartment below it when Carrie moved in last season. They have literally shoehorned that in!

SevenKingsMustDie · 27/06/2025 18:16

Really enjoyed this week’s episode, especially Carrie’s “A woman’s right to shoes” - reference to Season 6 Episode 9 of SATC!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 27/06/2025 18:49

Miranda's Airbnb neighbour with the knife and tiny penis!!!

CowTown · 27/06/2025 18:58

I wasn’t 100% focussed—is Miranda in the illegal Air BnB, therefore can’t file a formal complaint against the threatening behaviour? Or is the psycho neighbour in an illegal Air BnB, in which case….grass!

Holluschickie · 27/06/2025 18:59

Still finding it hard to believe that Miranda can't afford a flat.
Admittedly she doesn't have the talent for picking out rich men the other two do. Sorry if that's bitchy but it's true.
