On weekly for 6w - this thread is tv paced

This looks really good and an amazing well known cast !!!!!

Prepare to go on quite the wild ride with new crime drama The Red King, which combines elements of the archetypal police drama format we know with elements of "chilling, atmospheric folk-horror.

The new series follows Grace as she's placed on a remote "punishment posting" on the island of St Jory in Wales, where she's meet with hostility, a cult nobody seems to talk about and the case of a missing teenager.

According to the official series synopsis: "Smart, capable and by the book Grace Narayan (Mohindra) was flying high as an inner-city police sergeant before being forced into a 'punishment posting' on the small, antiquated island of St Jory.

"Confronted by the forgotten and unsolved case of missing teenage boy Cai, Grace quickly discovers that she must overcome scarce evidence, extraordinary local characters and the island's strange cult history to uncover the truth.

The six-part series (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/anjli-mohindra-jill-halfpenny-doctor-who-writer-drama-newsupdate/) is not only positively intriguing, but also boasts quite the cast and behind-the-scenes team.

Led by Anjli Mohindra (The Lazarus Project (www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/the-lazarus-project-sky-cancelled-newsupdate/)
) as police sergeant Grace Narayan, the show follows her as she's sent to the small island of St Jory, where she's faced with the unsolved case of a missing local boy.

But will she be able to get to the bottom of this case despite some tension from the locals? On top of that, Grace also has to reckon with the town's "eerie past devotion to a pagan God called the Red King and the cult of the True Way".

The new series is penned by Doctor Who (www.radiotimes.com/doctor-who/)'s Toby Whithouse (www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/doctor-who-toby-whithouse-protected-exclusive-newsupdate/)
and directed by Daniel O'Hara, who is known for his work on Harlan Coben's

, as well as

As well as the likes of Jill Halfpenny (The Cuckoo (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-cuckoo-channel-5-cast/)) as Ann Fletcher and Mark Lewis Jones (Baby Reindeer (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/baby-reindeer-cast-netflix/)) as Gruffudd Prosser, the cast for The Red King also includes Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/bridgerton-season-3-release-date-2/)

Gryffud is definitely a wrong 'un but it would be too obvious if it were simply him who's the killer. So far we have that he's a repugnant sex pest, but he's probably going to turn out to be more than that.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/05/2024 19:30

Winter or owens wife

Owns wife would have been preg and home alone /able to drive a car

Wonder whose car it was

They need to find it on the island

The creepy music in this series shits me up! I'm enjoying this more as it goes on. Very eerie.

Umanresources · 11/05/2024 17:26

I’m enjoying this but did wonder how she knew there was someone in the car listening to the boy die. Ooh that Ann was a one. I wondered if she knew something about the island but it seemed that she had only just met the ex policeman and didn’t know her way round the island. She was just a bitch then!

I did laugh at Winter bringing in the two lads and slapping one of them; and changing their names 😂
I’m another one hoping it doesn’t strictly follow the same story line as The Wicker Man!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/05/2024 23:57

Cos why else would the car be there

Not walkable back in a gale

This is what happens when you let civilians (and possible suspects!) take part in the investigation! 😃Winter was obviously a flake, but she's no killer. Her Mum, though...

That was really good. Poor Lucy- I was worried about her as soon as she started talking about speaking up.
There must be a few involved to move the body.
Just when I think I work out who Grace can trust, it shifts. I started off being suspicious of Winter, then thought she might be ok, now I'm not sure again.
Loving all the twists and turns.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/05/2024 07:33

Hopefully Lucy isn't dead

Guess too obvious to be mark Lewis /gruffard

GrandHighPoohbah · 16/05/2024 17:18

I really hope Owen doesn't turn out to be in on it. I have been admiring him for standing up to Gryffud and growing up a lot.

duc748 · 16/05/2024 17:22

He still looks as if he's bunking off school, though!

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/05/2024 17:40

No can't be Owen

He does 😀

AreYouShittingMe · 17/05/2024 20:33

Hopefully not Owen, as the dynamic between him and his wife is building up nicely. Really keen to see how it plays out.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/05/2024 13:53

E5 tonight

I may have to avoid thread as can't seem to find to watch it as on holiday

Loved last nights episode!
So- did the vicar kill Cai, or is he being framed by True Faith because, as a vicar, he represents the 'false faith'? Obviously he is guilty of murder, but he could be telling truth about the back pack.
Was Lucy trying to lead Grace to the vicar after dumping the bag there, as there wasn't any evidence of any disruption at the church?
At first I thought the vicar was had killed Cai and was trying to frame True Faith, not I'm not sure! Can't wait for the next episode!

deeahgwitch · 25/05/2024 17:29

Grace was given a drink by Lowri while being looked after by Lady Heather, who I thought was benign.
At the end of last night's episode she showed her true colours.
Was the drink spiked ?
Grace said it tasted bitter.

duc748 · 25/05/2024 19:34

There was the lemon buns before!

deeahgwitch · 30/05/2024 10:16

Anyone watched the final episode ?
The subtitles are so bad- missing a lot of dialogue.
I found it hard to hear.
I'd love a synopsis please.

duc748 · 30/05/2024 13:51

They really ramped the bollocks ratio up to 11 in the final ep, didn't they?

AreYouShittingMe · 30/05/2024 15:53

I really enjoyed it! I was wondering (during the 'trial') just how Cai had died, and it didn't make sense, so I'm glad it was spelled out for me! I would have loved to have known more about how exactly Grace ended up on the island and how far True Faith had infiltrated the police.
I did say to by DH that I wouldn't be taking their word for the vote count and would want something independent 😆
I loved how the village / non True Faith people just appeared to go along with the vote, but I imagine it was because of Duncan's history.

deeahgwitch · 31/05/2024 07:51

It wasn't spelled out for me because I couldn't hear the dialogue ( I did turn it up to no avail ) and the subtitles were woeful @AreYouShittingMe
Could you please explain or give a quick synopsis of the ending. I'd be grateful.
I tried googling Reel mockery but couldn't find the last episode.

AreYouShittingMe · 31/05/2024 08:27

Cai had an was upset about his dad's relationship with Lucy, and went to see Duncan. Whilst there, he saw the letters from Rachel so Dun an attacked him. However he was only unconscious so the True Way took him to the place he died. They fed him Rowan berries (the same way they gave them to Grace) so he would become a sacrifice and save Heather. When it didn't work (Heather was still terminally ill) Grace was targeted as the new 'sacrifice'. However, the implication was that it was planned from when her colleague committed suicide, but I'm not sure the time line fits (was that really less than a year before she moved to St Jory?).
The whole back story about her morals and her colleagues was to illustrate her 'character' was good enough to be a worthy sacrifice (Cai was apparently too 'flawed' which was why his death didn't 'work'.
That was my take on it all, anyway!
