On weekly for 6w - this thread is tv paced

This looks really good and an amazing well known cast !!!!!

Prepare to go on quite the wild ride with new crime drama The Red King, which combines elements of the archetypal police drama format we know with elements of "chilling, atmospheric folk-horror.

The new series follows Grace as she's placed on a remote "punishment posting" on the island of St Jory in Wales, where she's meet with hostility, a cult nobody seems to talk about and the case of a missing teenager.

According to the official series synopsis: "Smart, capable and by the book Grace Narayan (Mohindra) was flying high as an inner-city police sergeant before being forced into a 'punishment posting' on the small, antiquated island of St Jory.

"Confronted by the forgotten and unsolved case of missing teenage boy Cai, Grace quickly discovers that she must overcome scarce evidence, extraordinary local characters and the island's strange cult history to uncover the truth.

The six-part series (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/anjli-mohindra-jill-halfpenny-doctor-who-writer-drama-newsupdate/) is not only positively intriguing, but also boasts quite the cast and behind-the-scenes team.

Led by Anjli Mohindra (The Lazarus Project (www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/the-lazarus-project-sky-cancelled-newsupdate/)
) as police sergeant Grace Narayan, the show follows her as she's sent to the small island of St Jory, where she's faced with the unsolved case of a missing local boy.

But will she be able to get to the bottom of this case despite some tension from the locals? On top of that, Grace also has to reckon with the town's "eerie past devotion to a pagan God called the Red King and the cult of the True Way".

The new series is penned by Doctor Who (www.radiotimes.com/doctor-who/)'s Toby Whithouse (www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/doctor-who-toby-whithouse-protected-exclusive-newsupdate/)
and directed by Daniel O'Hara, who is known for his work on Harlan Coben's
Stay Close (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/stay-close-netflix-review/)
and
The Stranger (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/harlan-coben-the-stranger-season-2-netflix-exclusive-newsupdate/)
, as well as
Brassic (www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/brassic-sky-cast/)
.

Led by Anjli Mohindra, known for her roles in The Lazarus Project (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-lazarus-project-season-3/) and Vigil (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-3-release-date/), as Grace, the star is joined by many a familiar face in The Red King.

As well as the likes of Jill Halfpenny (The Cuckoo (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-cuckoo-channel-5-cast/)) as Ann Fletcher and Mark Lewis Jones (Baby Reindeer (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/baby-reindeer-cast-netflix/)) as Gruffudd Prosser, the cast for The Red King also includes Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/bridgerton-season-3-release-date-2/)

Would you really throw your phone into the sea 😮
Seems a bit extreme to avoid another phone call from Grace.
Is the Jill Halfpenny character involved ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2024 09:43

A work phone she might

Now she can't contact her

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2024 09:44

Tho equally surely she would get a new work phone and have same number so in a few days can call it

Enjoying this, cast and script.

flatironbuildin · 02/05/2024 23:14

Jill Halfpenny is in every single one of these type of dramas lately. I don't particularly rate her as an actress - I mean she's not as bad as some but she's not actively good - so I'm a bit mystified why she has this market sewn up!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/05/2024 08:26

I think she has a contract like ant and dec do itv

I am really rooting for Grace. The way the Jill H character couldn't care less about a potential child murder because it's on an odd island is shocking. I have visions of Grace heading up AC12 later on her career once Adrian Dunbar retires!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/05/2024 21:19

Behind by 20m but with ads and ff them I should end up on real time near end

Grace a bit wobbly in ep #3!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/05/2024 22:24

I thought Grace was good

Still don't know who called Kai and why

Possibly gruffard

Plus he doesn't seem to like his wife talk to people and says she won't understand English but obv does she why doesn't she say oi hubby I do understand

Widows wail seemed to last one night.

Not sure I would want to spend the night in a hall when could sleep at home in a bed

*killed Kai

I'm really enjoying it. I don't trust Winter- she seems very keen to get involved in helping Grace. Why? Is it because she knows what's been going on and pleased someone is looking into it, or is it because she wants to know exactly what Grace has discovered? Jill H's character- was her response just because Grace 'betrayed' her fellow officers? Or because she's somehow involved with the True Way? Why did Grace jump to the conclusion that there was someone in the car in the picture? (Or did I miss something?)
Loving all the theme about loyalty (on the island and in the police), and I think there are more (none True Way) secrets to be revealed on the island.

AreYouShittingMe · 09/05/2024 07:08

Also loving the Wickerman vibes. Just hoping the ending isn't similar!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/05/2024 09:17

Guessing as hair can't drive as 13/14 and a car was there

So who drove it

OP posts:
AreYouShittingMe · 09/05/2024 12:11

I was thinking someone had parked up and gone for a walk, but it was during the storm wasn't it, so probably not. Someone being in the car is a strong possibility, but as a police officer is she making too many assumptions (this is something I notice in lots of crime dramas- obviously needed to move the plot along but for some reason bugs me 😆)

mum2jakie · 09/05/2024 15:25

Enjoying this. Recognised Sam Swainsbury as the island vicar. I've only seen him as Jason in the fabulous Mum series before.

The Winter Bain character is very odd! I wouldn't stand in a bathroom while a stranger was having a bath!

And the rest were in the hall and photo

Tho why all need to go to a hall in a yearly strong is beyond me

As I said previously I would prefer my own bed and house
