Can't get over how cheap Thailand is.

I have friends who go a lot. Use airmikes for flights and eat cheaply. So say its its not an expensive holiday.

Jellykat · 01/05/2024 21:58

Well blow me down, i was wrong about the lads, theyve buggered it!

They've had a great time though!

jay55 · 01/05/2024 21:59

Oh gosh what a turnaround.

Makes it more interesting

Stephen used to live in a portacabin?

Why does that not surprise me 😂

The couple were clearly not "solid". I think it's interesting they got robbed when escorted by a camera crew all the time.

I think they were going to make bad telly.

I never understood why the show didn’t get the stolen money back on insurance and let them carry on. It was out of their control

SwedishEdith · 01/05/2024 22:02

I feel Eugenie and Isobel's relationship is still to move to two adults and is stuck in parent/child. I just wonder if they had some tense teen years? I just want them to tell each other they love each other. No doubt editing is exacerbating any tensions but Isobel shouldn't keep asking her mum to hurry up. She clearly can't.

Conniethecatapillar · 01/05/2024 22:04

I felt for Isobel as she is clearly wanting her Mum to open up and her Mum keeps shutting her down

Rummikub · 01/05/2024 22:05

I wonder what the “I tried” and Isobel’s response of “did you though” was about?

Once you’re there it’s a bargain.

Food is tasty and cheap. I’ve been to chiang mai so it was nice to see again. And you can buy all kinds of things in the pharmacy! Without prescription.

I think there are issues on both Isobel and Eugene's side. Isobel did not seem very nice on several occasions this week I thought. Nice to see them properly laughing together near the end though.

I'm so glad Owen and Alfie took time out to have fun rather than just racing.

Steve didn't seem so obnoxious this week !

Msmbc · 01/05/2024 22:21

Isobel's mum needs to start acting like a mum. Doesn't seem like she ever has. She's extremely childish. So upsetting watching her openly dislike her daughter, when clearly all the communication and the issues there under the surface will be rooted in the childhood/family experience. If a mother doesn't know her daughter as an adult she should take some accountability

Actually I found Isobel generally a bit unkind in tonight's episode.

Really glad the lads had a good time. I'd like to see them or Betty and James win.

EvilRingahBitch · 01/05/2024 22:23

I do find it infuriating when people are badgering their older/less fit relatives to bust a gut sprinting up a hill with a rucksack on in order to beat the opposition by thirty seconds on a non-elimination leg. If I were there I'd tell Isabel to sod off, it's not worth it. I'd run for a bus, or an elimination leg, or the finish line, but I wouldn't run for bragging rights.

Yes, yes I know, the producers probably tell them to do it.

SoupDragon · 01/05/2024 22:24

To be fair, Isobel seems to dislike her mother equally.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/05/2024 22:26

It is upsetting as Eugenie very obviously doesn't like her daughter and I suspect Isobel has been trying for a long time to get her mums approval but never found it.

And Eugenie is so defensive, she absolutely refuses to accept any of the issues could be anything to do with her.

I feel sorry for Isobel tbh.

Conniethecatapillar · 01/05/2024 22:26

Yeah I think they both have problems with each other. Maybe there is a huge back story or something.

He was still shouting at people to hurry up because he was in a race. They don't care.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 01/05/2024 22:31

I thought it was telling that Isobel suggested eating together as a way to spend time together and it was Eugenie who didn't even want to engage - just said, "everyone is doing different things" though it was what she said she did growing up.

It seems to me that Eugenie is stubborn and doesn't want to do anything anyone else suggests. We don't really see the digs she says Isobel makes.

SoupDragon · 01/05/2024 22:37

i thought Eugenie said they'd eaten together when the kids were growing up. I think it's accurate to say that it's hard when everyone is doing different things. Isobel refused to listen.

its very difficult to eat as a family once older kids all have lives and things to do.

There are lots of things Isobel doesn't want to listen to and dismisses her mother.

Rummikub · 01/05/2024 22:38

Yes I wondered if that what the comment referred to. Not eating together as a family when she was a child.

SoupDragon · 01/05/2024 22:40

I have a great relationship with my children.

no way would we survive this level of intensity though! They're together 24/7 under stressful conditions. Horrendous!

jay55 · 01/05/2024 22:41

Yes, I maintain good relationships with family by keeping visits short. Day in day out and we'd be fighting for sure.

Msmbc · 01/05/2024 22:45

But many of the parent child couples in previous series (and this one, with Bridie and her mum) have been a great team and loved spending the time together. It all depends on what the relationship is like to start with. And the parents need to take responsibility, acknowledge the role they've played, if the relationship is difficult. It sure won't ever be repaired otherwise
