Just seen my first advert that it's back!!!! Japan to Indonesia starting 10th April, brilliant, my absolute favourite!

I really like the 2 boys, Owen is so patient and it will be interesting how they get on together. See I think the show is obviously a race but massively about the relationships developing through the challenges. I like the human element.

Not sure you've posted on the right thread

Tarkan · 28/04/2024 17:06

That's weird. I was on the football thread and it's posted here instead. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dottiethekangaroo · 28/04/2024 21:38

I have only just found this. I’m watching Canada at the moment and really enjoying it.

solongandthanksforallthedish · 29/04/2024 19:46

I find the dynamic between Eugenie and Isobel really uncomfortable. Maybe she is jealous, or just dislikes her daughter, but she's been quite down on her. And E appears very sensitive. Like Isobel mentioned that the boys were fast, and E immediately made it about her "sorry for the sticks." It didn't sound like I was making a dig- just commenting that the lads can run!

A marked contrast to the two who went out, where it felt like the daughter knew her mum had her back. I thought they were really sweet, but clearly have their priorities in the wrong place for a race, probably the right place for being happy!

I hope E&I don't win. Despite really liking Isobel. I hope she sees it back, and realises she deserved a mum like the other one, not one who mocks her ethics.

Stephen is creepy. Another uncomfortable couple.

I'm wondering about the back story of James and Betty? I'm surprised they're siblings!

Oldmansissnoring · 30/04/2024 09:27

I’m finding the observations about the various pairs almost as interesting as the programme. Agree about Stephen and possibly being at a time in life when he’s just going for it but his wife seems fully aware but wonder how much longer she’ll put up with it as this time together must really highlight it or perhaps it is the editing and he is her third husband. The boys yes loving their way of coping with their individual personalities and support of each other. The melon working mother and daughter pair now I understand they must include one job and one sight seeing experience so yes sadly so far behind from start never had a chance really. Have they eliminated pairs in previous series as I thought nooooo don’t be mean producers, it’s not necessary. Yes it’s a race but so much more too. The other mother and daughter yes friction can arise they’re sweating buckets and maybe her eyes were struggling along with the backpacks and her sticks I couldn’t manage and yes maybe she should have tried to help her daughter when they were having to eat the food but it’s possible as someone said that the mother felt it would have highlighted her daughter not eating and her daughter being an adult needed to step up otherwise maybe she’d have struggled even more after eating far too much herself. The brother and sister yes a race and I don’t think the brother was bad and it showed because he couldn’t lie , tried but failed and yes the mother was also I the wrong to put him in that position. If she’d joked instead of being so serious it would have helped. Also they brother and sister were at a big disadvantage regarding time. So I guess no one will bother to read all this but

I can’t wait for tonight’s eposide - midweek schedule is great as there is nothing much on at weekends or any other day and it’s different looking forward to something in the middle of the working week. As someone else said they could easily have split each race to check in in two and give us more of the work, experiences and sights. After all the tv licence is not cheap and this programme for me is worth it!

This is my first time watching RATW. I am really enjoying it! However as lots of people have already pointed out, it’s really quite obvious that it just be fairly staged in certain areas. Still, it’s good to watch.

And to whoever was wondering when it was filmed: I googled when the 2023 Myeongdong Beer Festival took place in Seoul which Betty and James went to in episode 2 I think. It was between October 6th-8th, so filming was definitely from September - November last year.

Edited

Yes, agreed. It's fairly easy to tell roughly when it was filmed by looking at the colours of the leaves on the trees. Summer in most of Japan is very hot and humid so I think we would have been hearing more complaints about that had it been filmed earlier in the year.

NCTDN · 30/04/2024 21:37

Was it on tonight?!

To answer a previous question - yes they have eliminated pairs in previous series. They scrapped the elimination leg in series 2 after 1 couple had to pull out very early on when half their money was stolen (eliminating them anyway).

The couple were clearly not "solid". I think it's interesting they got robbed when escorted by a camera crew all the time.

I think they were going to make bad telly.

scissy · 01/05/2024 10:02

That's fair, and I believe they had split by the time of the reunion episode. However I was quoting the show reason 🙂

Anyway, going back to the current series, at the moment I actually hope the boys win. They remind me a bit of the uncle- nephew team from series 2. Although I suspect that's mainly down to editing. We'll see how it all changes!

BogRollBOGOF · 01/05/2024 18:15

The boys are my current favourites too.

I'm miffed that Stephen survived the elimination. He's so bloody rude in an entitled way, not the slightly innocent faux-pas, learn from it way that the boys were with eating on the street in Japan which wasn't personally rude in the way that being impatient, queue jumping and shoving your whiteboard into someone's compartment is.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/05/2024 18:31

I've just been watching Episode 1 of the first Series. It's quite different because obviously the competitors haven't seen other people do it before. One couple had to go home early one due to family illness (having previously persuaded a B&B owner to charge another pair €20 more than them!).

jay55 · 01/05/2024 21:03

Evening.

I've been following the boys on tiktok this week. A couple of interesting bits

And a few general things about it, like the jobs.
