Just seen my first advert that it's back!!!! Japan to Indonesia starting 10th April, brilliant, my absolute favourite!

OP posts:
pentagonisapentagon · 20/04/2024 07:43

I am absolutely blown away by Isabel, she is so intelligent and switched on. I am not too much older than her but feel quite taken by her ability. Her mum is awful though.

Brydie needs to stop going on about dyslexia. It is incessant and boring. It feels like an excuse at this point.

Surprised by the sympathy for Viv when she was still married whilst flirting with her now husband at school. Affairs are typical though in schools, I guess.

It was nice seeing James begin to loosen up and I hope Betty and him keep balancing each other out and meet in the middle.

The two boys irritate me but hearing about him being raised by his Gran was quite surprising, bless him.

Ah I don’t see Isabel’s mum Eugenie as awful.

Isabel is one of 3 - I see a woman who has probably raised 3 fabulous young people , is a teacher and is laid back in nature. She’s a perfect foil to her ambitious daughter. And bloody good on her for doing it!!! Sort of person I’d love to go for a drink with, I bet she’s great fun and has some stories to tell.

Wonkypictureframe · 20/04/2024 09:01

I like Isabel and Brydie. And the boys. I generally like most contestants on this show, including those people get cross about. I think the stress of these situations often gets to people and I’d be a bloody nightmare at points doing this journey.

The back story of being raised by grandparents since birth has to have sadness and family trauma in it.

Riverlee · 20/04/2024 10:12

The boys are like excitable little puppies let loose on the world, a little headless at times but finding their feet.

SoupDragon · 20/04/2024 10:46

Was she definitely still married or is it just an assumption due to the phrasing?

No, he was a hard one to warm to, I do agree.

Cattyisbatty · 20/04/2024 12:07

@BringMeSunshineAllDayLong - my DS is the same age and missed two ‘big’ trips that were planned school/other organisations even though the second would’ve been out of lockdown, travel was still so restricted.

It could be that she had met Steve who she fell for but didn’t act on. This then made her reevaluate her relationship, or it may well have already been failing, leave her then husband before she and Steve got together.

Alternatively, there might not have been any overlap whatsoever and it was just clumsy phrasing.

I think it"s a little unfair to state on a large social media site that she had an affair based on one interpretation of a single comment.

I agree, I don't think she said anything incompatible with her second husband running off with the milkman and Steve appearing on the scene shortly afterwards did she?

pentagonisapentagon · 20/04/2024 18:00

You just have to do a 5 minute google to find out that her relationships overlapped 😂

I would find it highly suspicious that my partner has been working with someone for a number of years, we split, and they’re already together…can see the MN posts now.

Either way, I find them an odd couple. You can see her visibly wince with the ick at things he does.

I just find her really grating. Isabel is so smart and on the ball, her mother doesn’t seem to accept it fully or be willing to adjust for it. It’s sad and disappointing. I’m sure she’s good fun and a lovely woman; but I can’t stand her behaviour in the relationship.

I suspect there is a whole lot more to it than we have seen.

Helenloveslee4eva · 20/04/2024 18:10

Late to the thread.
I’m warming up to this lot now.

mid like to root for the older couple but he’s so unlikeable 🤪

the boys are so funny. I mean if there is a park of giant Willies to be doubt it had to be them 🤣

isobel and her ability to see and plan the long picture for the win I hope. Warming to her mum a bit.

I’ve loved all the series and I’ve done / booked more travel with my grown up kids pretty much prompted by it. More planned though sadly 🤪. Just back from a really fab time in Lisbon with eldest. fantasy RATW would be with son but actually she might be the best to win - we packed so much in entirely planned by her !

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 20/04/2024 20:56

Do the pairs who’ve lost maps get given new ones? Surely they need them to at least look up what country they’re aiming for?

LIZS · 20/04/2024 21:47

Assume they only get a map at a time for the country they are in and to reach the destination.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/04/2024 22:22

Eugenie does tend to talk rather negatively about her daughter. It's all done with a big smile on her face but she doesn't fully back her / believe in her. Just lots of little criticisms.

I'm sure Viv's second and third marriages overlapped.

The diversion to Shikoku island by Betty and her brother was just bizarre, although I was very keen to see it as I've just come back from a holiday there.

The footage from the fish market was brilliant!

I fear we're only scratching the surface with all the "personal journeys" stuff and there will be a lot more to come unfortunately.

bookmarket · 20/04/2024 22:53

I like all the pairs at this stage. It's a shame they have to eliminate a pair as I feel the 'race' is about getting from the start to the finish not each individual leg. Perhaps it is due to logistics and to chivvy them along so they're all at the checkpoint at a similar time. But they could instead give them a window to be there, if that's the case. I feel brydie and her mum might excel in the more chaotic environments where they have to rely on their personalities rather than the excellent transport systems of the first two countries. It's silly to have eliminations when typically couples have dropped out anyway for other reasons in each season.

The two boys are great because it's nice to see two young male friends being portrayed as nice and supportive to one another. Much more like a female friendship than the usual 'banter' and laddish insults wer'e accustomed to on TV.

I think that they eliminate a pair as they never know who is going to make good tv.

EvilRingahBitch · 20/04/2024 23:44

Elimination stops you gaming the system by spending a full week working in Tokyo and then using the money to hire a limo across the whole of Indonesia.
