Just seen my first advert that it's back!!!! Japan to Indonesia starting 10th April, brilliant, my absolute favourite!

Ok I'm caught up, I still love it!!

My favourites are 'the boys' and Isabel. Her Mum hasn't really done much to help, Isabel is an amazing planner and I'm sure will do really well in life, her Mum passes her off as difficult but I don't see her that way at all. The boys definitely show their age, but their stamina and sense of fun is brilliant.

I really can't bear Steven, which made me skip a lot of their team, I don't know how Viv puts up with him!

I actually like 'Betty's brother' he reminds me a bit of how my DS who is only 13 might turn out.

I'm not sure Brydie & Mum have the right competitive instinct and suspect they might go out at the next leg.

Theydontknowaboutus · 18/04/2024 10:51

Will be sorry if Sharon and Brydie leave- love their attitude, even if it's not very competitive.

Love the young boys - think they are doing so well, rooting for them.

EverybodyLTB · 18/04/2024 10:58

I’m so in awe of Isabel, I find her so charming and lovely. I’ve travelled a lot with my kids, and we watch RATW every series - I’m trying to make them into future Isabels! For me the goal of travel is to broaden my kids’ minds, in whatever way it manifests for them personally, but also to introduce practicality and common sense, and the confidence to take control of their situations. I was proud when my youngest queried why Viv and Steven stayed overnight in Busan instead of getting on a night bus or train. He thought they were mad and wasting time and cash, which they were.

highlandcoo · 18/04/2024 14:02

I love Isabel and really identify with her attempts to learn the various languages. The boys are so young! I think they're doing pretty well considering their lack of experience and I hope they don't fall out badly .. the taller curly-haired one might have to be pretty tolerant at times though.
Last night's episode was very badly edited I thought. Unless I missed something, the last three teams were wandering round a ceramics exhibition trying to work out where the finishing point was and it was all quite confusing. I think each episode needs to be half an hour longer actually. Why are we so wedded to programmes being exactly one hour long?

jay55 · 18/04/2024 17:11

Both episodes I've found the final part, who finished when and how they got to the checkpoint difficult to understand.
I'd like some graphics on screen showing where each pair are, with a hot/cold scale on them.

Lovemycat2023 · 18/04/2024 17:27

I think it’s because they are trying not to give away how close it is. Often they are hours apart and there would be no tension at the end!

RefreshingCandour · 18/04/2024 17:31

Agreed the dumbing down/dramatisation ruins it a bit. Agreed that an hour isn’t long enough for each checkpoint. If they are wedded to an hour programme they should make two episodes per checkpoint.

Viv def made sandwiches at the hotel!! Probs from the breakfast buffet. I am loving the lads.

It’s by far the best thing on telly atm.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/04/2024 17:55

i hope i would be like isabel, planning the next steps!

Doingmybest12 · 18/04/2024 17:57

I've found with this series too much flicking around between contestants , my eyes adjust to one scene and then its gone, feels like every few seconds. I want to see a bit more of the scenery and chats not just a rotating film of this person wants to find themselves then the next person saying the same. Bit disappointed really this time given the location.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/04/2024 17:58

the programme must takes heaps of editing but you could see the check point some arriving in the dark and some arriving in the light.
and there are interesting observations.
not much english speakers or helpfulness.
my dd finds south korea quite racist as a young white english female.
enjoying the programme and dont really want to have favourites.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/04/2024 18:49

Where on earth are they going next? They're all going to have to backwards surely, unless they're going to China which I can't imagine would be much fun.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/04/2024 18:53

Vietnam is next I think. I might be wrong.

Wonkypictureframe · 18/04/2024 18:57

No, they said that at the end.

SoupDragon · 18/04/2024 19:31

Just watched on .catch up. Steve is a total arse.

Which means we're being set up to think he is, and they will probably win.

Funny, my sister really likes Korea and finds it less racist than Japan! Also seems to think they are more laid-back than the Japanese, so I guess it's a case of it's who you meet.

I agree! The story would flow better and be smoother if the editing was a bit more subtle - and there'd be less questions I think. 🌹

I bc was thinking (since there's nothing much else on and BBC must have spent a few £££ on it) why not have more than one episode per week like Traitors or Masterchef ?

We could have had Mon to Fri an episode on each couple per leg and then say Sunday evening a "final" for the week of them racing to the checkpoint .

I'd love to see more on each country - we could also have the bloopers per week Nb- must be lots from Penisland

Theydontknowaboutus · 18/04/2024 21:46

I would definitely watch either longer episodes or more episodes. Feels like so much is missed out.

LIZS · 18/04/2024 21:48

A less edited version would be good. Surprised at the blatant swearing form boys in particular.

Good idea. It's the first time I've watched RATW and I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. It would have been great for eg to see more about the diving ladies or the ladies in the fish market.

Or over two nights. 45 minutes each night.
