A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. New app alert! Kocowa has just launched in Europe. Loads of old dramas and variety show content and new things too. Just started Connection new Jeon Mido and Ji Sung drama there. Bit drugs hysteria but involving.

I have reached episode 5 of My Mister and some of the gloom (I say this tentatively) is lifting 🤞

So excited - we have just decided on, and now booked most of the big bits of a week in Japan just after Christmas. My husband is forced to take a lot of annual leave then, my son is totally obsessed with the snow monkeys that bathe in an Onsen in Nagano, decided to just book it! Very excited to go back - I lived there as a child, and visited quite a lot as a teenager but haven't been there in at least 10 years.

Fight for My Way ✅ I enjoyed it but it’s not top 5 for me. PSJ was great and the cast around him were all brilliant. I’m not sure why it’s not top 5 for me. Maybe it lacked peril or some tension. Although she was well cast, had good chemistry with PSJ and was more likeable in this I still don’t warm to Kim Ji-Won. 🤷‍♀️ Worth it just for PSJ alone, though. 👌

As Netflix has been streaming some older K-content, I recently watched Moment of 18. Enjoyed it, so decided to see how it fared on the spreadsheet ... then got completely distracted by seeing the negative (eg -7) numbers some shows got in 2019.😆
