i dont condone there actions i recently in last yr met my brother who was adopted as a baby

i woulod never sleep with him but you dont know them as brother as you didnt groow up together in my mind always new had brother and new him as this without meeting him

but when we met huge strong bond undescribable not lust or wanting sex but huge bond

for the young couple who were clearly very vulnerable i could understand why they would be confused but i could never do that with my brother but im secure in my life with my family

i do feel sorry for them as on the outside people would be like yuck as you imagine its the same relationship you would have with your sis or bro but for these people they dont have that relationship they meet they sence huge bond its overpowering confusing and its well known for family members who have been reunited

in my mag this woman met her father for first time and they are now together with 2 children now that i fine worse as surely a father would always have known about his daughter

bubblagirl · 28/03/2008 10:38

sorry for spelling lol

wannaBe · 28/03/2008 11:36

I think this is desperately sad actually.

and not that uncommon

And it's not the same as meeting someone you're just attracted to - there is a biological attraction, so walking away from that person would mean giving up that part of your identity also.

I do agree though that Danielle appeared to be on something

MummyPenguin · 28/03/2008 11:59

I fell asleep before the end. What happened to the couples? Did Danielle (wasn't she annoying?) and Nick get prosecuted or get their situation de-criminalised? Did they manage to get back together?

What was the outcome with the American couple?

bohemianbint · 28/03/2008 12:03

I dunno why but I kind of feel a bit sorry for them.

But the genetic thing is a massive worry; first generation children would more than likely be ok, it's subsequent generations that would cop the fallout.

wannaBe · 28/03/2008 12:08

mp Nick and Danielle were prosicuted and received 12 months probation. they were allowed to continue their relationship as long as they didn't have sex. yeh right.

The american guy left his wife and children and moved into an apartment but Stephanie decided against leaving her husband because she wanted to wait until her children were older. although his wife told all her friends and it became talk of the town so hard to imagine how Stephanie's husband wouldn't find out. They were still seeing each other though.

I think this just reiterates why it's so important that parents are honest with their children about these things - after all would be entirely possible to meet one's sibling and not know it was a sibling..

MummyPenguin · 28/03/2008 14:07

Thanks Wannabe.

I don't agree with these relationships. I know it has happened where siblings have met and fallen in love not realising they were siblings, there was a case in the news a few months back. In that scenario, it's very sad, but to conduct a relationship with a sibling, even half sibling, knowing about your relationship is just wrong on so many levels. DH and I watched this together (he fell asleep too so couldn't tell me the ending ) and he initially said that "it's only half sibling." I have a half brother, and I said to DH that imagine if I left him for my half brother? How grossed out would he be? He agreed with me then. I think they should fight those feelings and agree to never see each other again, however hard that may be. Where there are children involved, it's undoubtedly going to be a lot harder on them.

Greyriverside · 29/03/2008 23:01

It may well be risky genetically, but that assumes they were planning to have children. If they didn't grow up together and one was sterile (for example) what makes it gross?

bohemianbint · 30/03/2008 18:49

I reckon it's probably weirder for the mother - to have given birth to two children who then get together.

yelnats · 30/03/2008 20:42

The scottish guy Nick went to my school!! I am sat here just now watching this as I Sky+ it and I cannot believe that this guy was at school with me!! he's a couple of years older mind you. He always was a bit strange rigt enough!

pukka · 01/04/2008 09:56

its illegal because its an old law.
and i mean OLD. going back not just centureis, but millenia. fell free to correct me, as i'm nolegal expert, but ithnk that other than ancient egypt wherre incest was practised regularly to keep the blood lines pure, it has always been illegal.

bohemianbint · 01/04/2008 18:10

Wasn't there a big story in the news recently about muslims marrying their cousins? Granted, not in the same league as getting it on with your sibling but is apparently causing lots of problems with genetic conditions.

I think it's a culture thing, we don't like it but other cultures do engage in some levels of incest.

Actually, an Irish friend of mine went out with her cousin.

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 18:12

BB, as far as I know it is not 'wrong', illegal, or risky genetically to marry/procreate with your first cousin.

bohemianbint · 01/04/2008 18:23

It's not illegal but is risky:

"British Pakistanis are 13 times more likely to have children with genetic disorders than the general population."

Lulumama · 01/04/2008 18:29

there is the whole thing about genetic sexual attraction . don;t know a huge amount about it

it was a bizarre programme

especially stephanie and her half brother. he gave up everything, and she decides she is not ready.. at the end of the day, not only were they being unfaithful, they were doing it with a half sibling, someone also related to their children then..

too complicated, too difficult

thought it said earlier in teh programme that danielle was now infertile. so she has no chance of having more children and has given up her own daughter to be with her half brother

not much of a trade off, imo
