they knew they were. he grew up in foster care knowing he had a half sister.

how lovely - fucking up 6 kids' lives so you can fuck your half sister. i'm sure your kids will be so understanding, pal. of how you need to live your life. it's more important than self-control for the sake of your kids.

handlemecarefully · 27/03/2008 21:51

I have heard something vaguely (no references to quote) that it is not unusual for siblings who have grown up apart / separately ...to feel sexual attraction for each other

Must watch the programme on Channel 4 on demand

expatinscotland · 27/03/2008 21:52

he seemed very surprised his wife told her best friend about why he left.

what did he think she was going to say, 'Oh, he needed to live his life. I'm cool with being left a lone parent'?

does he think it's not going to get back to Steph's husband that his wife is shagging her half-brother?

hope she kisses her kids every night, because the judge will deliver them up to their father once he/she finds out the state of things.

it's not unusual, but to act on it is another thing.

pass the bucket!

DH is sitting here and he thinks Danielle speaks like a junkie.

ara · 27/03/2008 22:03

so what happened with the americans? was there any conclusion? she looked like she was piking out....

diplodocus · 27/03/2008 22:08

Motherfunk - I think the main reason it's illegal as any children from such a relationship are likely to have congenital abnormalities.

thornrose · 27/03/2008 22:10

I'm hesitant about getting involved in this debate but I have a very dear friend in a similar situation.
He was in foster care from a very young age and his mum went on to have a dd who stayed with her. They were reunited in their late teens and felt an "attraction" but didn't act on it, she is extremely beautiful which further complicates matters I think.
They have both had relationships with other people and had children (again with other people) but it's always there in the background so to speak.
He's a very troubled soul due to mainly to his childhood in care. When he has too much to drink he describes her as "the perfect woman", his girlfriends' are always jealous of the half sister, they somehow pick up on the "attraction" I think.
Look beyond the initial euww and google GSA for a bit of insight, it is quite common!

Not seen the program, but if they met as adults it's no different than any other relationship. There could be instances where a couple could meet and not even know they were siblings seperated at birth.

If it's causing a marriage to break up (just assuming from comments) THAT is a shame, but sadly that happens all the time anyway.

Not sure that the government should be worrying about what consenting adults do in private anyway.

branflake81 · 28/03/2008 10:17

It's illegal because any children they had would probably have deformities and/or severe learning difficulties due to closeness in genes. I guess if everyone went around copping off with their sibling the gene pool would quickly vanish and that would be it for mankind.

NomDePlume · 28/03/2008 10:24

I won't watch it. It just seems like an excuse for the general public to ogle at these people. Rather like a modern day sideshow freak.

NomDePlume · 28/03/2008 10:24

Sorry, meant to say that DH recorded it but I won't watch it
