On episode 3 and enjoying it so far. Maybe a bit slow but I feel like it’s building up big time. Not 100% sure what’s going on. Waiting for the aliens to turn up.

Haven't watched yet but I probably will.
I've read all three books and kind of wish I hadn't as I found them really disturbing. Although excellent. I guess that's the point of dystopian fiction really.
I maybe should have stopped after the first book.
I enjoyed the Chinese perspective rather than the (most usual) American perspective you get in a lot of sci fi.

We tried to watch the 2023 Chinese version on Prime, but random episodes needed buying or the whole Series for £63 🙄. YouTube had a link to WeTV, which also had a lot of episodes locked.

Oh no! I have just started reading them! First book I have got into in a LONG time

Just finished it. Really enjoyed it but felt like that was just an Intro! How long til S2?!

echt · 01/04/2024 00:19

DD got me onto this last night and I enjoyed the first episode. One significant niggle was the great beauty of the female actors versus the variety of looks in the men. Not much change there then. Hmm

I'd never heard of the books, but will give them a try.

On episode 6. Really very disturbed by the scene in previous episode that briefly justifes and then glosses over the massacre of children 'because it's war'.

Yes that was weird. I’m assuming we circle back to that because I still don’t know who and what the children on the boat were?

ABirdsEyeView · 01/04/2024 14:22

They were the children of the followers of the aliens. They were being raised to prepare for and welcome the invaders generations down the line.

Very sad then 😢

I suggest to the last few posters that you go back and edit your posts to warn of spoilers.

I've seen up to episode 6 but many won't have.

KitKatChunki · 01/04/2024 15:05

I started but the first scene had me turn off. I know I will go back to it but I wasn't quite ready. Does it get a lot worse?

Yes, if you're talking about gore.

I would sorry but edit option isn’t available for some reason!

Cooroo · 02/04/2024 23:06

Just watched episode 6 and spotted a character reading Dhalgren by Samuel Delaney. I'd know that cover anywhere.

CrossPurposes · 09/04/2024 17:10

Episodes 1-5 were great, episodes 6-8 haven't enticed me to watch further if season 2 comes to pass.

Haggisfish3 · 11/04/2024 23:03

Have skim read thread but am on episode three. Really enjoying it.

Cooroo · 12/04/2024 08:01

The series started so well but lost interest towards the end. I preferred it when it was all puzzles and questions. Then it became 'oh the aliens are coming'. The characters didn't interest me enough.
Definitely interested in reading the book though.

MonkeyTennis34 · 13/04/2024 10:19

LOVED this series but felt deflated at the end.

Blatantly obvious the ending was a lead into another series.

ABirdsEyeView · 13/04/2024 11:24

I didn't really get the ending tbh. The bit in the cab right at the end.

marrybarry · 14/04/2024 16:51

The monkey banana scene was horrid

scissy · 14/04/2024 18:58

Tbh I think the series ending suffered a bit with the source material (I've now read books 1 and 2). For people saying the ending felt a bit "flat" - I agree, but now having read the first 2 books I don't know what else they could have done (other than stop even earlier plotwise?). I think they've tried to keep people interested and are hoping to have the series renewed by starting material from the later books already. Anyway, for anyone who can't wait I suggest you pick up the book series like I did to find out what happens, although bear in mind the TV series amalgamates a bunch of the book characters to create the Oxford 5 which I found confusing at first.

Was the Chinese adaptation one long series?

ABirdsEyeView · 15/04/2024 17:18

I've just realised I'm mixing up my series, so disregard me Blush

Haha you meant Bodies! (Had to Google name as it's faded already)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/05/2024 14:38

Just read today that they are doing a second but final series. It's a trilogy and the third book was long, there's no way they'll cover it all. The creators will be gutted.
