I absolutely love Nikita on Strictly and he does seem like a genuinely decent person. Coming from a show like Strictly makes doing CBB a bit of a risk, because the Strictly pros are disposable and becoming a public hate figure or getting involved in some kind of cancel culture -ism row could easily see a pro's contract not being renewed. Nikita is coming across as being petrified of tainting his image to the point of being a bit cowardly, e.g. he doesn't want the public to think he could actually dislike someone so he gives rather vague and unsatisfying reasons for his nominations. It's the wrong show for someone as image conscious as him.

Yes he's definitely holding back for fear of being chucked off Strictly. It doesn't take much for a public backlash against a celebrity.

LittleCrackers · 20/03/2024 19:49

I've just tried to vote and it says the vote is frozen, I thought they didn't freeze it until mid-show usually?

Fair enough that that's how it came across to you.

I perceived it differently like the other poster

She had her moment and made a balls up of explaining herself. She hardly let him get a word in when she was having a go at him in the house, in front of everyone else as well.

I don't think he can do no wrong. I just don't think he's been particularly off with her, that's all. As pp said, she made the classic mistake of speaking up with drink on board and it started with the arch comment, 'You see, you and I get along alright when we're playing games...' and then went on to have a go in a really quite condescending manner. He'd already been seen asking if she was OK earlier and she said yeah, yeah then muttered under her breath, 'Stop it,' which was a bit bizarre. I think after she'd had a go, she realised she'd fucked up and backpedalled furiously in the garden but he was unsurprisingly a bit pissed off.

I suspect Fern regrets ever mentioning stripey jumper, of course it wasn't about that but the catalyst that opened up a conversation that was really about being left out, an 'oldie' (she's not), not being interesting enough to part of the gang, and constantly being voted for by Nikita who is probably seen as the 'cool one' by everyone, lots of slights that build up over time until it can't be held in..

Edited

Ok

I have a different opinion like I said.

I didn't say you thought Nikita could do no wrong. I can't keep track of which poster says what.
But there seems to be this overwhelming feeling on here .

MarchHares · 20/03/2024 20:03

@EsmaCannonball Nikita being so worried about his public profile makes it all the more baffling why he is so openly hostile towards Fern. I also wonder why he is on Cbb, does he think he can become a tv presenter? I mean surely for a pro dancer being on strictly is the pinnacle. He did so well with Layton and was so well regarded, he could only really harm his profile by going on cbb.

I've thought a lot about this.

Having a chat with the younger generation about how you never really feel old, it's just how people perceive you and treat you when you are older is a valid conversation. I had that conversation with my Nanna when she was dying of cancer. It was an enlightening and tender moment between an elderly lady that I respected hugely, who I was related to.

In Fern's case, the timing was wrong, it came out a little wrong, and she didn't have a close connection with the younger Man in question. It was never going to be received in the way she hoped, sadly.

It would have been lovely if Nikita had said something like "Oh wow. Thanks Fern as I hadn't appreciated that" and given her a hug.

But he didn't, and I guess they are all pretty defensive in there and constantly second guessing how their actions and reactions are viewed by the public. She caught him off guard as the conversation didn't happen organically.

I can see it from both sides. It is something that will be shown to both of them upon their exits. What will be telling will be how they react to seeing that. I'm reckoning Fern will shrug and go " oh, well" and Nikita will make a big deal about how he was made to feel a bit shit out of 'nothing'

If I'm honest, I do feel it was micro ageism (as in, not out and out nasty on his behalf, but subconsciously ageist on his behalf) As we know, small things add up - especially in the house - and on top of how Fern has felt in the past few years personally.

It's an unfortunate part of life that we will always come up against this type of issue, and it's good in a way that it's been highlighted. I think the younger generation are more likely to stand their ground these days rather than take on board an older person's perspective. (Hence we have so much discussion in the media about 'Millenialls' versus 'Boomers', for example) Years ago, you were taught to just respect your elders no matter what. That wasn't necessarily a good thing, mind.

I do also wonder if he'd commented on a stripy top being fashionable to say, David or Colson, they would have replied there and then that they knew that, or said "cheeky bugger" or even just "ooh, thank you" (coming from such a fashion conscious man)

Louis' ageist (and sexist) comments to Fern have been way worse, and far more cutting. They also come across as ingrained with him. Yes, partly due to the industry he's been in, but also cos he is positively gleeful about insulting people. I therefore, find this much more distasteful, yet folk here want him to win. I don't believe in rewarding shitty behaviour, personally, but I get that he's been entertaining in a drama sense for the show.

BB has always been an interesting psychological experiment. (And why they have psychologists commenting on the after shows) It's what makes it fascinating and quite addictive to watch.

I've thought about this too much. 😆

Lots of good points made here, and I hope the conversation that Fern has started to challenge ageism can be brought to the fore and treated with the same relevance as the other isms.

They’re saying on some shows that people think it’s a fix to keep Louis in

What is Louis’s relationship history (just being nosy 😂)

It was an obvious fix by the producers when they gave Louis immunity only after Fern had picked him out as the one to be banished immediately.

They didn't want to lose him because the show would be a lot duller without Louis (plus they probably paid loads to get him).

Was there not a whole scandal about Louis and a young fella in a bathroom

I must have read about this and thought he was gay then but maybe he isn't and I've just thought he is all this time!

I've always thought that they can and do freeze the vote at a time that suits them. I've no idea if this element of the voting comes under any sort of official rules.

Willmafrockfit · 20/03/2024 20:32

i was shocked when i saw Fern and Louis but realise that normally we see them made up
she looks like any other 67 year old

as i said on the previous thread, david to me looks like a frog
with his big stomach and bare legs - jeremy fisher

@EsmaCannonball Nikita being so worried about his public profile makes it all the more baffling why he is so openly hostile towards Fern. I also wonder why he is on Cbb, does he think he can become a tv presenter? I mean surely for a pro dancer being on strictly is the pinnacle. He did so well with Layton and was so well regarded, he could only really harm his profile by going on cbb.

This reminds me of the extremely favourable Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovani Pernice partnership. Your reputation on Strictly largely depends on how you get on with a partner and also how successful that partnership comes across on screen. There has been negative press about Giovani's other partners in Michelle Visage and Amanda Abingdon.

Is it down to a personality clash, or just unrealistic expectations from the celebrities when they find themselves pushed by a professional dancer in a way they weren't expecting?

All of the housemates are there to raise their profile. They all want more work. That work boils down to presenting or acting / performing arts.

Lots of the Strictly pros have work on the side, eg Anton and Gio have a bbc show where they go on holiday together, they also do solo tours and the higher the profile, the more bums they get on seats. Nikita does in person workshops with Layton his partner from last year. I don't think they actually get paid very much for being on Strictly.

I don't think Fern really does knit socks for homeless mice 🐁 ..

MeinKraft · 20/03/2024 21:05

Nikita seems close to his mum and grandmother and I'm sure doesn't need Fern to lecture him about how you feel the same person when you're older. www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10605439/amp/Nikita-Kuzmin-reunited-grandma-Poland-escapes-war-Ukraine.html

Louis is so mean. I don't understand why he thinks Fern is boring but Bradley*, for example, isn't.

  • I actually think Bradley is very sweet but not an entertaining housemate.
