Well that was good timing, mum crashes the car in a death wish and gets rescued by Ronan Keating’s big brother, just in time for the daughter to miraculously reappear by staggering into town at the crash scene?

Villagetoraiseachild · 30/03/2024 22:45

That house was screaming trap!
Who was in the house then?
The old Maori guy, the threatening Irish guy, or ?

Disappointing, not exciting or gripping. It's short on plot, very slow moving, lots of characters sitting around talking about their feelings/ruminating on things unrelated to the plot. I haven't watched it all but might fast forward to the last episode to find out what happened to the missing couple.

Villagetoraiseachild · 30/03/2024 22:48

So Ronan's brother gonna have to bin his flight and put a trace on the journo lady's phone, I suppose.

Oh, and couldn't understand anything the lady cop said.

I started to warm to it a little after what I thought was a clichéd start, but another of these series that just kinda annoyingly stopped, without any kind of proper resolution. Siobhan just pitching up like that in the middle of the road was just laughable.

SabrinaThwaite · 31/03/2024 16:50

Right at the end I was impressed that Aileen’s phone was ringing in the arse end of nowhere - that’s some mobile phone coverage (although was the place where detective’s mother was supposed to have killed herself a big communications tower?)

martinisforeveryone · 31/03/2024 18:37

Well that was annoying, just stopping on that cliffhanger.

Obviously hoping for a S2!

martinisforeveryone · 31/03/2024 18:51

@diddl yes, have seen mention of series two, I'm just not sure if I'll be engaged enough with it by the time it comes around.

duc748 · 31/03/2024 23:06

I think you see see that 'hoping for S2 fever' in a lot of series finales, but this seemed pretty half-arsed. I thought the acting was better than the script.

SabrinaThwaite · 31/03/2024 23:08

I thought the acting was better than the script.

And both were better than the sound quality.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/04/2024 00:27

Well I really enjoyed it and found it gripping so I’d happily watch another series. It’s a frustrating ending - you’d think Aileen would take precautions and or take Theo with her!

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2024 00:49

According to Wikipedia a second series was being filmed in February.

I enjoyed it although I'm not sure I care enough about Aileen!

I mean I want to know who she saw but that's it!

I thought it was fairly gripping too.

Is the nice policeman Senior Constable Bruce Harris involved ?

Xmasbaby11 · 01/04/2024 08:44

I thought it might be the doctor - he could have medicated Colin and had access to his house. Was also friends with Diana’s mum.

Villagetoraiseachild · 01/04/2024 08:45

Aileen definitely saw something nasty in the woodshed.
Vaguely looking forward to a second series.
I think we'd need a decent recap by then.

martinisforeveryone · 01/04/2024 10:22

There’s quite a nice bit about Wayne Hopi, who plays Buster https://thespinoff.co.nz/pop-culture/16-05-2023/wayne-hapi-draws-on-his-past-life-in-tvnzs-the-gone
I did think all the Māori aspects were well done, especially the vigil-funeral and I liked the quieter aspects, letting emotions play out for themselves rather than being over acted.

Radio Times has a recap, but fails to explain Colin, or the Fallons
https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-gone-ending-explained/

The shack was creepy and I anticipated a body with the flies buzzing around. Point taken about mobile phone coverage, but I’ve been at the arse end of nowhere and it’s been better than spots at home. It is high up and there was a comment that it required four wheel drive or a three day hike. So, who is up there?

Wayne Hapi draws on his past life in TVNZ’s The Gone

From answering a job ad in a Winz office to a standout role in New Zealand's latest police drama, Wayne Hapi’s acting journey is the stuff of legend.

duc748 · 01/04/2024 13:17

Too-good-to-be-true Valerie was more a plot device than a character, but the ending still seemed a mess. Even after reading that Radio Times link!

diddl · 01/04/2024 13:41

So do posters think that Colin was the Mountain Murderer?

SabrinaThwaite · 01/04/2024 14:38

diddl · 01/04/2024 13:41

So do posters think that Colin was the Mountain Murderer?

Colin was already dead when Aileen went to the shed, found the bird bones and was surprised by someone she knew, so my guess is that it’s someone else.

The doctor seems like a good candidate?

Maybe we’ll find out that the detectives mother was murdered because she worked out who the mountain murderer was?

diddl · 01/04/2024 14:46

Weren't the murders 2006?

But would her mum have disappeared before that?

diddl · 01/04/2024 13:41

Colin had some of the bird bones in a little box didn't he? What if it's not just one murderer?

Not sure? Diana looked about 12 when her mum disappeared, and could be about 30 now so the time range could fit?

There is obviously something to be revealed about her mum - hopefully in season 2.
