I am really looking forward to this. This particular case (and miscarriage of justice IMO) has long since been a personal obsession of mine.
If Ruth had committed this crime in recent times, she wouldn’t even have had a custodial sentence (thankfully CP long abolished) - David Blakely was extremely mentally, verbally and physically abusive towards Ruth. He apparently caused her to miscarry just weeks before the incident. So it’s beyond question the balance of her mind was affected.
In the few post production photos I’ve seen, it looks gorgeous & I am sure Lucy Boynton will do Ruth justice. Perfect casting.
No date yet, but I was hoping it might be in the Easter TV schedules? Especially as Ruth shot David on Easter Sunday, so the the timing would be very apt:

Received another email from ITVX - still no air date available! If it was going to be on during Christmas, I think that would’ve been decided by now. I suppose it would be fitting to air it around the 70th anniversary- Easter 2025.
I am wondering too if this adaptation will reignite interest in justice for Ruth? Another possible posthumous pardon? Although this was turned turn in the early 2000s. I suppose the only people that can pursue this are Ruth’s surviving relatives. Her sister Muriel died over ten years ago. Ruth has a grandson, Stephen Beard, who was in Hollyoaks. He did express an interest in going down this line a few years back, but not sure what’s happened subsequently. Would love to see him take this on.

it does make sense to wait until early next year - as coincides with 70th anniversary.

Lucy Boynton (Ruth Ellis) has updated her insta with a trailer and also states that ‘Ruth…’ will be on TV around mid to end February! She said it’ll be available in the US first on 17th Feb, and then UK shortly afterwards, so that’s my guesstimate ☺️

Still states episode 1 will be available in the US (Britbox) on 17 February.
I sincerely hope we get it on the same date (if not before) why should the USA get it before us? It’s a British production. I’ll be bloody annoyed if we have to wait.

I think I’ve read every book and seen every film/programme about Ruth that I could get my hands on. Her case was so unjust- she was mentally (and physically) abused by DB but she absolutely adored him. I’m not sure she’d have carried on even if her life had been spared.
I read reports that she’d been abused as a child too.
She was hanged in accordance with morality at the time.
A strong woman, supporting herself and her son but weakened by love.
Tragic story. Ruth’s sister Muriel campaigned for years about her case; I’m not sure if Muriel is still alive.
I’ve also read her daughter Georgina’s story; she felt her life and loves mirrored her mother’s, even marrying her own David.
Andrea’s life was ruined by the loss of his mother. And I don’t think Georgina ever recovered

@BirthdayRainbow In my teens I was a regular at the Cat's Whiskers, which is supposedly haunted by the ghost of Ruth.

Looks like it’ll be premiering on Britbox next Monday - but only US/Canada - hopefully we won’t have to wait too long!

She killed David Blakeley on my birthday so it's always been a bit of an interest for me. (Not that it was my actual birthday as I wasn't born, but you know what I mean).
