I really didn't expect Gael to get through the last set- he will be running on fumes if this one goes on as long, I think.

If he's planning to watch Elina later, he might nod off in the middle of it.

kazzaD66 · 11/03/2024 21:16

Score watching and looks like Emma isn't rolling over. Lost first set on a single break and currently 4-3 up in second, having just traded consecutive breaks with Sabalenka.

Fizzywinegum · 11/03/2024 21:23

Can’t believe this match is still going -we had a brief interlude to watch repeats of Only Connect Hmm - Gael looked dead on his feet after the first set

Topless Casper was a bit of a surprise to me as well Blush

It definitely looks like a Barbie theme is going on with the women players - Sloane Stephens is also in pink

Raahh · 11/03/2024 21:27

Fizzy I have saved my weekly fix of Only Connect repeats- but I think this week's is more recent , so I might remember more of it.I won't.

I am now score watching. I am amazed how this match has ended up really. If Gael wins it, he might not be up for much in the next round!

Raahh · 11/03/2024 21:27

And he has! Well done Gael!

Raahh · 11/03/2024 21:29

He plays the winner of the Casper/Arthur Fils match next, I think?

Fizzywinegum · 11/03/2024 21:32

My Sky stopped working so I missed the end of the match - well done Gael!

kazzaD66 · 11/03/2024 21:33

For such a long match, it finished pretty quickly at the end.

I've been watching this for nearly 2 hours with no commentary then 10 minutes from the end, the signal blipped, so I came out and went in again, only to find commentary has suddenly appeared! And it's that f*wit Robbie! Angry I don't want commentary!!!

IceandIndigo · 11/03/2024 21:36

Well done Gael! Looonng match though, I do wonder what state he’ll be in for his next match.

IceandIndigo · 11/03/2024 21:37

Ugo down a set to Tommy Paul unfortunately.

Raahh · 11/03/2024 21:47

Oh no- come on Ugo! If there is a player I find more dull than Norris it is Tommy Paul Grin.

Raahh · 11/03/2024 21:48

I'm too late, looks like he's already lost.

kazzaD66 · 11/03/2024 21:49

Emma has just lost 6-3 7-5, so not as easy as for Sabalenka as was thought. Unfortunately, Emma had a lot of points to defend from last year, so she may even slip in the rankings, as ridiculous as that may seem!

She's down to 287 in the live rankings and is now the Britisb no 9, behind Fran Jones and Sonnay Kartel

Now I need to try and get back to sleep!

Fizzywinegum · 12/03/2024 07:05

Well that’s good news to wake up to! Hope you managed to get back to sleep Jane

IceandIndigo · 12/03/2024 07:13

OMG that’s the upset no one saw coming! Go Luca!

Raahh · 12/03/2024 07:13

I woke up midway through the match but missed the end so am thrilled with the result. GO LUCA!

( I'm sure we will hear all the 'Djok was rusty/ poorly earlobe / Fig poisoning' excuses soon).

kazzaD66 · 12/03/2024 08:11

That's certainly a good start to this wet and miserable day! He was a lucky loser, having lost to Goffin in the final round of qualifying, and at 123 in the world, is the lowest ranked player to beat Djok at a Grand Slam or 1000 event Grin
Well done Luca!

Raahh · 12/03/2024 08:20

I remember Luca from Monte Carlo last year- the Italian fans got very rowdy Grinand then he played (and lost comprehensively to) Musetti, but it was a great run. The Italians are having a good year all round, both men and women with Paolini playing well at the moment.

it's always a good day when anyone beats Djok. Grin

Fizzywinegum · 12/03/2024 08:37

DH asked me if I was happy that Djok had lost - he knows me so well!

Just wish that I could have seen it! Well done Luca!

kazzaD66 · 12/03/2024 10:09

Don't know how to link it here but Djok showing again what a cock he is with a dispute in the second set and then raising it with Luca at the net handshake. So ungracious at times. It's on insta and X.

Raahh · 12/03/2024 10:14

That sounds about right, kazza- he never gets beaten fair and square, the other player never plays well- there is always a reason he loses. And it's never his fault Hmm.

I'm waiting for the announcement that he won't be playing in Miami, because he's sulking developed a sudden injury/ needs to regroup etc.
At least, I hope he doesn't play.

Raahh · 12/03/2024 10:22

I've watched the point that Djok is contesting, and whilst it is a bit confusing- the umpire is right (imo) and Djok should have just played on. It was a very 'do you know who I am' type discussion with the umpire- and I'm glad he was having none of it.
Djok has been playing long enough not to be distracted by what another player is doing. In the moment, it shouldn't even register. He plays his own point.
