Will the Paul/Terese/Toadie/Mel quadrangle resolve itself? Will the Baddie Builders ever return? Will Eden get his comeuppance? All these and many more, coming up on Neighbours.

It was the backpackers and Piper and David got injured. Going through Sonya’s bio looking for it it reminded me of Toadie and the bouncy castle when he was never going to walk again 😂

I agree @HappyWorkingMummy - her face doesn't allow her to get away with as much / make it believable as original Nicolette with her wide-eyed doe-ness!

I felt like such a terrible feminist writing that but her face just doesn't work in the role!

Doe eyed describes the old Nicolette so well. She was very pretty.

Another Neighbours question:

Have we seen Byron and Nicolette before they appeared a few years ago (Immean the appearance before they both got new heads)?

Did we ever see them as kids? Ever see them before they came on a few years ago and Nicolette dated Chloe and Byron was the escort?

BTW, I can't warm to new headed Nicolette no matter how much I try. I really liked old headed Nicolette and she was one of my favourite characters. I also liked her with Chloe better than wishy washy Ellie with Chloe.

It's the personality transplant, the bad acting, the lack of parenting of her daughter, but especially (hope I don't get too flamed for this) her face. She's the only character on tv that makes me feel quite cross when I see her face. It's just so harsh and o really dislike her mouth and teeth. Old Nicolette looked soft and pretty and it did allow her to get away with more. Wide eyed and beautiful and with a sweet smile and overall sweetness and vulnerability regardless of what was happening. Made it all believable.

This Nicolette rubs me up the wrong way and (I never think this!) I wish they would give her a new head again soon so I can like the character again.

From favourite to least favourite because of the actor change is quite significant.

We’ve not seen them before. I don’t think Jake popped back after she left until she properly returned x years ago so we first met Nicolette when she was red head Nicolette.

She was such a wonderfully nuanced character. I’m not sure if the actress is the problem or the writing or both? Maybe the actress just doesn’t know how to make it so multifaceted?

Steph was bi.

The shoe torch thing was Sonya got drunk and crashed into a building. Was it the hostel? Someone was in there and got hurt, can’t remember who but think it was someone young. Mark found out it was Sonya and there was an incriminating shoe probably in the Ute she drove and he found the other shoe and desperately put it in the grill rack of the bbq and tried to destroy it in the dumbest way possible.

I’m going to look it up for all the ins and outs.

That is quite something and yes I vaguely remember now. Around which year was this?

When the shoe thing was mentioned on this thread I thought it was just about a drunken BBQ!

Steph was bi I forgot that.

Was Harold's granddaughter who recently came to visit also bi?

HappyWorkingMummy · 27/07/2024 09:48

@MiddleClassProblem I hate to have a dig but I think the actress is terrible AND so wrong for the role in every way.

A well cast Nicollette could have made this reboot

I also vaguely remember the bouncy castle.

I'm going to watch some old episodes on Amazon while I'm in bed ill. Which years do you all recommend?

MiddleClassProblem · 27/07/2024 16:08

I can’t remember what happened when but if you have some missing years maybe start there? If not maybe go for the build up to a big disaster ep or big plot of a character you like?

Lassiters fire and Paul’s return is obviously a pretty big one

I've caught up on last week. Toadie's reminiscing is making me sad. He's been such a main part of the programme for so long, it's really emotional having all of these sad things brought back up.

I was surprised at Melanie saying they rushed into marriage. They did marry soon after getting engaged but they'd been together a while before that, so it wasn't really rushed. I really liked those two together, much better than Toadie and Therese!

Sonia's exit story and death was heartbreaking. I remember weeping buckets watching that last episode!

For whoever asked, yes Steph was bisexual in the end. For most of her time in the programme not, but quite late on she was sectioned for a mental health crisis, and then started a relationship with the female nurse who cared for her, which continued after she left hospital. I thought at the time this was a questionable relationship/storyline!

Arconialiving · 27/07/2024 23:42

And then they cut Sonia from the opening credits the very next day after she died - harsh!

Smidge001 · 28/07/2024 08:27

I also didn't like Melanie making out their relationship wasn't meant to be and that they'd rushed it. Toadie rushed into marriage with Terese, but not Melanie. It just seemed totally unnecessary to the plot to go and change history and feelings like that.

I'm not sure how all this reminiscing is supposed to end up with Toadie leaving though. Is he just supposed to want to run away from his memories or something? Seems a bit daft.

WhyDoesItAlways · 28/07/2024 09:15

I've just seen that Janet Andrewartha (Lynn Scully) has died. Very sad, excellent actress and character.

MiddleClassProblem · 28/07/2024 10:20

Just seen this too.Very sad! She always reminded me of Stockard Channing.

HoHoHoliday · 28/07/2024 10:43

Oh that's sad, I always loved her in the show.

Rummikub · 28/07/2024 11:18

Just saw this and came straight to the thread.
Very sad news
I loved her dynamic with paul.

BookW1tch · 28/07/2024 12:17

Really sad news. Loved Lyn, a great character. Her postnatal depression was really well acted. Loved her bond with Steph.

DahliaMacNamara · 28/07/2024 13:16

Oh, no, I loved Lyn Scully. Really sad news.

Yes

Did like the actress

RIP Janet

Smidge001 · 28/07/2024 15:55

Oh that's sad. Yes, now you mention it I can definitely see the similarity with Stockard Channing.

Lynn was in it not that long ago, when trying to put Therese off from marrying Paul wasn't she. Hmm... maybe that's longer ago than I realise Confused

HoHoHoliday · 28/07/2024 17:00

I think it was 2019? There was an episode before Paul and Therese got married where all of Paul's ex-wives (except the dead one) came back to warn Therese off. It was great, really funny!

Oh yes. Also loved Rebecca Napier. Paul has had some great wives!

MiddleClassProblem · 28/07/2024 21:11

She might have been in the video with lots of people well wishing in one of the last eps

Ooh, I'd love to see that! I've missed quite a few years here and there, what with this and that and life intervening. Grin I'm going to see if I can find it somewhere. 2019, you say?

HoHoHoliday · 29/07/2024 20:56

Do Australian schools not have much of a school uniform policy? Today JJ was in an untucked shirt but no tie, Dex had a sports shirt on, Nell looked like she was in pyjamas. Very different from my own school uniform experience!

I sense there will be trouble with Byron and his new silent partnership. But I did LOL at the idea that he has to fly off somewhere for a few weeks, he isn't allowed to just stay at home out of the way. Banished to Queensland!

Going off to google hepatitis B now...

BareBelliedSneetch · 29/07/2024 21:21

I was convinced there was going to be some horrible accident as Nicolette let her daughter just run across the road 🫣

HoHoHoliday · 29/07/2024 21:28

I also thought there was going to be an Isla accident! Yesterday we saw he run into the house while Nicolette and Kiri kissed outside, today she ran across the road when they were chatting, later when Nicolette sat down at the picnic she almost ran off to Aaron. It's almost like they were setting up multiple accidents for her.
