A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. Saram I totally agree with Boaty you must watch Mr Sunshine, it really is excellent. Whenever DH catches sight of Choi Moo Sung he always calls him Gunner Jang after his Mr S character 😁

CMS is also in Nokdu Flower with 24 episodes, it's on my watch list after I've finished Six Flying Dragons

I've started watching Three Body - The Chinese version of 3 Body Problem on Viki which is really gripping and pretty good quality!

DS has said he’s interested in watching the Chinese 3BP with me, which means we’ll be fitting it in around his revision & going at glacial pace 🙄 but good bonding.

We’re watching Shōgun together and enjoying having a shared show. Tonight I was limited to three rapt exclamations about the fabrics, but it was OK this week because I only liked Toranaga’s and his brother’s banquet robes and Mariko’s silvery blue dress the next day. I yelped at the end of this week’s episode. What an ignominious way to go! 😬

Nice to have a show to bond over with ds Boaty😊 my DD wants us to watch a Japanese show on Disney+ called Gannibal with her. Has anyone seen it? We might have to take a break from watching Shogun in order to watch it with her before she heads back to uni.

Saram - how did I miss this bit of news about you seeing Yoo Yeon-seok as well? I liked him in HP and Dr Romantic. Just wasted far too long reading about this show. I had seen it referenced for lots of Korean actors but must have been hiding under a rock as never heard of it prior to that.

I've finally caught up with King of Crying Queen of Tears and I'm loving the latest twists.
WI, though, has completely lost momentum in the last couple of episodes and I'm struggling to finish it.

WI wraps up neatly and finishes at ep 12. Depending how far you get, it is probably worth persisting. It finished with more gusto than MMH. If I had Brian in front of me though I’d be saying “I’m very disappointed in you, bad Grandpa!” and giving him a hard stare.

The Impossible Heir reminded me of when Junho followed the magnificent The Red Sleeve with the disappointing King the Land. Ultimately the drama had nothing new in the storytelling, no chemisty between ML and the female (who either can't act for toffee or had an underwritten role) he was supposed to like. There were no thrilling twists and turns, and a totally rediculous finale where everyone hit their goals/had a happy ending/got their just deserts.

Lazy scriptwriting, pointless and a waste of Lee Jae-wook. 5/10 or maybe 6/10 for showing that not every actor/actress has perfect skin in a Kdrama.

I've started Shadow Detective now and it looks very promising.

I’ve had a couple of mad busy days. I have flopped onto the sofa tonight absolutely wiped out. Thank God it’s Friday!

Dragonrock I forget what I've mentioned to whom tbh 😳 Quite a few plans only crystalised shortly before I left, I was sorting stuff right up to departure this time. This trip seemed even more intense than last year - probably because it was a bit shorter and I did all the planning/booking myself, rather than pay a travel company. I started off being all relaxed about it and even wondering if I'd manage to fill the time [hollow laugh] I could spend 6 months in Korea and not see everything I wanted to. Still processing it all now, a week after I returned.

We've finished Physical 100, the final challenges were brutal! I was pleased with who the overall winner was though.
