A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I have zero interest in posh Cosmo as I've just caught up with QoT and omg the German doctor! He looked so familiar it was driving me nuts so I had look him up and it turned out to be Sebastian Roche who's been in loads of stuff like Fringe and The Man in the High Castle and was Balthazar in Supernatural. So what with the exciting guest spots and the escalating shenanigans QoT is really hotting up 🔥

I’m chuckling at the clothes shopping scene in ep 9 of Wedding Impossible and Ji Han’s “madam, we’ll take everything from here to here.” Not your usual chaebol spree. 🤣

TheLoup If it helps I think the show was filmed on location in Germany and the actor is French so although not quite a random they picked up off the street it was probably just down to local casting rather than a new trend. Probably 🤔

Does your DH like superhero stuff MrsF? Moving on Disney+ was great, darker and more violent than your average Marvel stuff. There were some courting/romance aspects, but more to explain the characters’ relationships than as the focus of the show.

HAHAHA fedup, apparently when he played an Irishman in a previous role, people were shocked to discover that he was actually English. His wife must feel that she is living with someone with a dissociative identity disorder.

We usually watch thrillers/murder mystery stuff together. He likes some Marvel (Guardians of the Galaxy). I think we'll give it Worst of Evil a go but will also check out that other one.

@maldoandwae I think the Daegu ajussi was probably more into halabuji territory 🤔💀😂 the ajussis and halabujis of Daegu are made of different stuff. Often very funky dressers (I got another very enthusiastic hello from a halabuji in a wicked black furry bomber jacket). And, as the friend who's just got married's brother said, men of that city have a reputation for being not backwards in coming forwards. The ajummahs of Daegu are known to be especially fierce, too (figures). Willing to bet anything that Yoongi has some formidable aunts up his sleeves 😁

On the grim side, I expect travelling as a woman alone may in itself be taken as a sign you are up for sexee timez 🙄 Not so much in Seoul I don't think, but possibly elsewhere. This is not just a Korean thing, of course.

I thought the hotel room in QoT looked very like the hotels in Singles Inferno series 2!

As I wasn't familiar with it, I've been checking out the Hime Cut and as far as I can tell, unless your name is Momo, it looks pretty dreadful on just about everyone. Maybe it needs a traditional princess headress to look good?!
