A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. One of the FLs in WCRG is disguised as a man (natch). I personally feel that manicured nails, tiny waist, mascara and lipstick do not make a convincing disguise in Tang Dynasty China, but an entire encampment of soldiers are fooled.

I can highly recommend Three Body on Viki, it's so good. But it's not the type of show you can binge, or watch whilst browsing your phone. It moves so fast, if you look away from the screen you've missed something important!

Hello over here! I am grossly behind on watching and chatting as we went away for Easter with friends and so far the trip has been extended two days due to storms in Sydney disrupting flights. Wish us luck for tomorrow getting home!

I’ve started it with DS2. He turned to me in episode 1 and said “they’ve skipped that whole bit with the crowd where the man was beaten to death on stage.” I explained the Chinese version of the books scrubbed all the content critical of the cultural revolution and state. He thinks the Chinese version is slow (it is compared to the Netflix version). It’s good to hear it picks up pace @Rowdythree .

There are a lot of flash backs and pensive stares so it may seem slow compared to the Netflix one Boaty (which I haven't seen)

I've tried a little bit of both versions of Three Body. The Netflix one felt a bit too action based while the Chinese version was intriguing but the sound quality on Vicki was awful and there was too much dense dialogue to follow. Is the book(s) available in translation? I'm feeling it might be better to just read it!
