Now fully at Live TV pace.

Will it be a traitor in the kitchen with a poisoned chalice?

OOOH I did enjoy that episode! I liked the camp funeral (am sure Diane wasn't in the coffin for the lid-slam OR the burial - she is much too sensible for that!)

I am gutted that Miles is gone and I do feel a bit pissed off for him honestly. Remember how flustered the Traitors were to get the poison chalice task? Sneaky Harry and Paul wanted nothing to do with any of it and Miles stepped up - the only 'team player' of the 3 of them - and did it as best he could, admittedly awkwardly...

If the production team had scripted Claudia to say murdered instead of poisoned I think he'd have been fine. Someone was murdered last night, but it's a slow death so they are still here for now - by the end of the game they will have died...

It wouldn't have been hard and it would have made it fairer on my poor lovely Miles! But as soon as she said "poisoned" he was a goner. I don't think it's very fair TBH.

He was SO lovely on Uncloaked, he did SO well at the round table, and remember him hearing Harry back-stab him in the library? And then just go in and gently try to talk them all back onside, no tantrum or spite...

It all just made me love him even more and feel GUTTED that the programme-makers chucked him under the bus - first setting an impossible task and then using super-pointed-hints to out him to everyone. If the Traitors laid a trap for him that'd be one thing, but this felt like a choice of the programme team. Grrr.

I will be having a camp funeral myself for him in my garden today to mark the occasion. I will be far worse dressed than Claudia, my spaniel will lead the cortege and there will be an a-capella choir singing random a-tonal quiz questions while Unbrushed Charlie does her rave hands.

God Bless you Miles, you were the best of them.

MaggieFS · 18/01/2024 11:37

Perhaps I'm just too hard nosed myself, but I'm really surprised by the number of people affected by the funeral mission or surprised it was shown. It's just a TV show! Why would there be complaints about it? What about funerals in soaps?

Shangrilalala · 18/01/2024 11:39

I worry for Harry.

His strategy late yesterday was to talk in huddles about a war between the traitors, which he did twice. I also think he was overheard by Jasmine.

What if one of the above faithful is recruited and later lets Paul know what he’s been doing? He could be in trouble quicker than he might think.

Or maybe I am overthinking. Just want him to win.

Agree

Camp/staged nonsense. Light Entertainment - nothing more. There will have been eleventy-billion cameras/lights/crew - not in the least bit spooky IRL.

Ah, come on. She was poisoned (in the game story) and they needed to know that so they could put two and two together about the drinks. And it's a plausible murder method for taking a day and a night to work, otherwise there's no reason for that.

shearwater2 · 18/01/2024 11:48

Can't people just switch over if they find a funeral scene upsetting?

I went to a funeral last week and It was not a bit like The Traitors (fortunately) 😅I didn't even think about the actual funeral I'd been to as the TV version was so gothic and camped up.

This wasn't a straightforward TV drama with a set script and professional actors. It was far more interactive and designed to mess with the players' minds a bit.

Stowickthevast · 18/01/2024 11:49

@WoolyMammoth55 apparently they did the same task in one of the Norwegian ones and there they did say "murdered in plain sight" rather than poisoned. Poisoned was the nail in Miles' coffin so to speak.

I found Aus S2 incredibly painful to watch, I ended up forwarding most of the second half but it was an interesting outcome. The NZ one has good faithfuls finally!

Someone on Reddit has done a confessional count and those getting the most confessionals of the faithful are Charlie, Charlotte, Zack & Ross so it's likely they'll be in for the long run.

Andrew has hardly had any so I wonder if we'll just see him murdered without ever really doing much.

MaggieFS · 18/01/2024 11:50

@NonPlayerCharacter But for the viewers?

There's a ton of things messing with the players' heads, but they've signed up to it.

Yes, but I can see why this had an effect on viewers that a totally scripted, professionally acted funeral in a TV drama wouldn't have had. I felt differently about it too. Haven't made complaints or anything, but it was very different to seeing a funeral scene on Coronation Street.

TellingBone · 18/01/2024 11:57

MotherofGorgons · 18/01/2024 10:08

Yes, did they not watch last year and see all the suspicious crying? Ivan, who was my fave last year, tweeted that players need to be wary of people who cry too much.

Something I would always watch for is people covering their eyes/mouth/face with their hands when they are reacting to an emotional event. Wilf did this a lot last year and Paul does it this year.

NonPlayerCharacter · 18/01/2024 11:59

Aaron had a near breakdown last time, but he was Faithful. If you watch, a lot of them cover their faces.

It just isn't as easy to spot a liar as you might think. If it were, there'd be no show!

MaggieFS · 18/01/2024 12:01

I thought last night was brilliant entertainment. I was a bit shocked too by the funeral carriage but I love how camp it all is.

though did anyone else find it really brutal when Claudia slammed the coffin lid shut on Diane? I really hope she gave her a hug afterwards!

I’m positive was TV exiting and that Claudia shut the lid on an empty coffin. We didn’t actually see Diane in the coffin at the time, the shot of it being shut was from a distance.

It would have been too brutal to actually do!

Oh no I hated Miles. He was such a lazy arse in the graveyard mission. He just stood there trying to direct people! No help whatsoever!

LindorDoubleChoc · 18/01/2024 12:22

I'm so glad that so many of us on this thread remember the travesty of justice in the final last year! God that was infuriating and I hope somehow they've made it clear to everyone from the very start that if they get into the position Keiron was in then ... I don't know what really, I suppose they can't actually threaten them with anythingHmm. But if it happens again they will have to have a big re-think about the rules and format of the game.

NonPlayerCharacter · 18/01/2024 12:25

Wilf should never have been allowed to recruit at such a late point. It's not fair on the Faithful and it gave him too much advantage. I know Traitors always have the advantage but being able to force recruit a decoy at the very last minute is too much. Throw the heat on Kieran normally but don't allow a last minute switcheroo on the last day.

googoodoll22 · 18/01/2024 12:31

I sometimes think it would be quite good to have a differently edited version where the viewers have to guess who the traitors are too.

GoingFullNorman · 18/01/2024 12:34

Diane said in the podcast that she found Miles shouting warnings about the lights really helpful, as she was absorbed in the game, and appreciated the shout to check for lights. She was one of the most effective in that game, too.

Miles also spoke quite movingly about how he has some body issues, and applying for the Traitors was a big deal, to get him out of his comfort zone. He felt that he wasn’t going to be much use physically, so tried to do something that would help instead. He said that the other men in the game had all been really supportive about how he felt re: his body and feeling unfit etc (although obviously not after that game!)

CaveMum · 18/01/2024 12:38

Re the use of the word “poisoned” last night, I wonder if it was a deliberate attempt to move their thoughts away from last year’s “plain sight murder” which was a hug or kiss (can’t quite remember). Perhaps it would have been better to say “One of you has been betrayed in plain sight and marked by the Traitors for murder. You need to figure out how it might have been done last night and who was the victim.”

We’re going to need a new thread shortly, maybe best to fill this one with inane chat before tonight’s episode so we don’t either have 2 threads on the go at once or the panic of trying to create a new thread halfway through an episode!

WriterOfWrongs · 18/01/2024 12:40

I think the use of “poisoned” was deliberate to get the players focused and narrowing down on the traitors. There has to be some direction because there’s only a finite period of time, and having lots of people left at the end is unfeasible.

OP posts:
MotherofGorgons · 18/01/2024 12:43

Harry definitely has a punchable face, and I can't bear cheeky chappies. But he has played the game well, plus I loved his "Oh diddly doos", so I will be ok, if he wins.

Is that inane enough chat?
