The meaningfulness is best when it’s not forced. For instance, Christine Cherry’s sculptured shape referencing her mastectomy. That sort of came out of nowhere and felt very genuine. Some of these feel a tad…..forced?

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2024 20:26

Normally they are all telling us about their wonderful lives, so to me knowing they do do misery and stuff at least makes them seem less twee.

I feel hard hearted because I’m not bothered about the background stories the pieces. I’m quite interested in seeing the development of the potters and their characters during the show itself, but otherwise wish no.
i know it’s not the potters but the production company. I wonder if they help potters come up with something if they don’t have a bad experience or sad story?

mayb I’ll feel different when I see the work.

Edited

Same here.

I don't want to know this stuff.

Unfortunately other people's distress just presses my empathy buttons.

YES!

I agree - and I was wondering if Christine's really moving piece of work was what had inspired them to make this a task.

She had a stall at a local Christmas market and one of those pieces was for sale (a smaller version I think). It was really powerful to see it irl! I considered buying it, but it seemed weird to do that as it’s not in my experience. So I got a little tree dec, a tiny ghosty with a Christmas tree on its head and a tea light lantern Grin

I only want to worry about whether the potter's pits work. Not the impact on their mental health.

They look unfinished.

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2024 20:43

Donna's is very cleverly done.

SoupDragon · 18/02/2024 20:44

I like Donna's porcelain but not eh dark one. I think that bit looks far less finessed. Messy even.

Aw, Jan. I want to hug her too.

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2024 20:48

Dan's looks the best after lighting.

SoupDragon · 18/02/2024 20:50

I like Steven's.

Dave v Dan for going home I think. Dave to go as he didn't win the challenge and his didn't light up as well as Dan's. Actually, I'll thrown Sophie into the danger zone. I'd forgotten her.

potter of the week.... Steven? Probably Donna though.

I bet Jan goes, if they get rid of anyone, which seems unfair..

TheSpottedZebra · 18/02/2024 20:52

I missed Stephen's explanation of his piece - can anyone fill me in?

He was very vague. I’m assuming the death of a baby or young child, from his finished piece.

I'm not 10p% sure but it sounds like a mother died shortly after the birth of her baby - the bit I didn't quite grasp was that I thought he said within the hour and it was from cancer which didn't make sense to me. I don't know the relationship to him though.

The death of a mother from cancer within an hour of the baby being born but I dont know what relation they are to him.

Spareincoming · 18/02/2024 20:55

I wondered if Steven’s was a grandchild and grandparent?

SpamhappyTootsie · 18/02/2024 20:55

Oh, apologies, looks like I also missed his explanation Blush

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2024 20:56

Steven's was a mother who died I thought , just after giving birth. Not specified who the woman was.

TheSpottedZebra · 18/02/2024 20:56

Oh dear, poor Stephen!
(Thanks for filling me in).

SpamhappyTootsie · 18/02/2024 20:58

Next week looks eventful!

It did didn't it! I try not to watch the "next week" bit but didn't turn over quickly enough,

I definitely would have picked Donna as my favourite and I liked Steven’s as well. Least would have been Jan, but no way she or Steven would have gone with the story behind the piece.
