Anyone watching? Apologies if I’ve missed the thread.

That elderly and very sick nun seemed very lucid and healthy looking to me, not to mention not particularly elderly. That whole story line was a bit silly. I'm Irish and it was not a bit unusual for people to have had lots of relatives with TB at that time. There was no big drama or mystery about it.

As lovely as CTM is I think it's time for it to end now.

I've been thinking that almost all of last season. It is really time they finished CTM.

Claustrophobiclown · 28/01/2024 21:18

Yes I think it's had it's day sad to say. I find my attention drifting in the middle of episodes now which never happened in the past. There just seems to be too many central characters and lots of fragmented stories. And I really don't think Nancy and Colette add anything to the programme.

Name854 · 28/01/2024 21:20

Nancy could have done today but them searching for her family seemed to have been shoehorned in, that could have been a series storyline if they'd wanted it to be.

PuffyShirt · 28/01/2024 21:21

So boring tonight.

Oh god I remember the BCG test.

All the girls in my class would make it into a flower until it disappeared.

Why don’t they do this anymore? I mean TB still exists doesn’t it?

I think they do still vaccinate against TB in areas where there are a lot of cases. We live in Inner London and both my children were vaccinated against it in their teens (at school). That would be 15-20 years ago, so I don't know if that's the current position.

I was interested to see the follow up for the children with a positive reaction to the Heaf test. I reacted to it and nobody did anything! Everybody else was inspected and told to go to the other nurse for their jab, and I was just told 'You don't need it, you can go back to class' and that was that! I can only assume I picked it up at some point in my childhood and didn't get ill. My other theory is it's linked to the fact that we were getting unpasteurised milk from our milkman.

PuttingDownRoots · 28/01/2024 21:26

I knew someone who died of TB in the past 5 years. Not gone sadly.

It wasn't caught quick enough due to its rarity.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2024 21:27

My mum reacted to her Heaf test, she was sent for a chest X ray but didn't have it.

RosaMoline · 28/01/2024 21:33

Matthew was so unattractive and petulant tonight. We definitely saw another side to him, whereas before he’s been portrayed as a saintly hero.
So, my guess is, he’ll be written out as they will split up & the money worries are a subplot.
No Barbican flat for Trixie, alas!

SilentSoubriquet · 28/01/2024 21:33

I remember one girl had it all raised and thought it meant she wouldn’t have the vaccine but the nurse said it wasn’t raised enough and jabbed her anyway

Yes, he didn't come across well.
But neither did Trixie, speaking so disdainfully of Meals on Wheels and the people who deliver them. Not a great move from the writer of this episode.

Name854 · 28/01/2024 21:39

Is the HEAF test the 6 needles? I had 4 come up and got vaccinated with no questions raised.

Yes Matthew is showing himself to be a bit of a tosser.

SilentSoubriquet · 28/01/2024 21:45

Yeah the 6 needles one.

And Matthew is coming across as a bit of an arse.

HIS paperwork is so important. More important than Trixie’s job of course. I don’t blame her for being a bit snappy. She was probably a little panicked thinking something was seriously wrong but no it was poor Matthew complaining of a headache of all things and not able to deal with being a dad

Daffodilsandtuplips · 28/01/2024 21:54

Olly Rix liked a comment I made on a a Facebook post about CTM. I said CTM is becoming rather saccharine and twee compared to earlier series and once again Dr. Turner discovers a cure for something or other and if he discovers DNA I’ll stop watching .

Claustrophobiclown · 28/01/2024 21:56

I can't believe Trixie is moving back into Nonnatus House. I wonder will she be sharing a bedroom again?

I’m not quite there yet, but I can’t see how Matthew would be happy about that.

I mean he’s a “respected” man and surely he would want his wife at home

Interesting that he liked your post. I wonder if he’s annoyed about being written out & Dr Turner forever staying in because he’s married to the writer!

Claustrophobiclown · 28/01/2024 22:04

I hope they're not going to have her marriage break down and Trixie back to square one - still living in Nonnatus House a decade after all her peers left and moved on with their lives. It's just starting to look ridiculous. Also, how would she react to losing Jonty. She seems to feel like a real mother towards him.

greengreengrass25 · 28/01/2024 22:05

@Name854

They definitely used to have some pop music in it

At least that would improve it

SilentSoubriquet · 28/01/2024 22:05

Yeah I won’t be happy if Trixie ends up divorced. I mean one of the main storylines for her right from season 1 is her finding a husband

Yeah, do we really want to see her on that merry go round again? I think maybe it's time Helen George left the series.

BlackBean2023 · 28/01/2024 22:12

As much as Matthew is an arse it really wouldn't have been unusual in 1969 for a man, especially a titled one, to expect his wife to stay at home.

I think we're judging by todays standards (which is great really, how far we've come in two generations - let's hope it continues!)

SilentSoubriquet · 28/01/2024 22:12

Yes but I think at the same time, people hold the show to todays standards and wouldn’t be impressed if Trixie gave up midwifery to be a SAHM

Menomeno · 28/01/2024 22:22

I used to cry at every episode. This series, apart from fleeting concern for Fred Buckle last week, I’ve felt quite cold.

Also how old is Jonty supposed to be? He looked about 6 months old in tonight’s episode when Matthew was holding him.

A good plot development would have been for Matthew and Cyril to take over as the lead men, take us into the 70s with a look into the public health element. They've missed a trick by not retiring the turners.
