I used to look forward to this programme on a Sunday evening. But this series has finished it for me. It’s a load of very predictable poorly acted bullshit. I’m not even interested enough to see it through to the last episode ☹️

Wasn't May's birth mother neglectful too? Isn't that why the Turners got her?

Yes she isn't exactly a paragon of virtue

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2024 21:08

This is the most utterly melodramatic episode ever.

Name854 · 04/02/2024 21:08

It's pure shite

thatsnotmywean · 04/02/2024 21:08

Proper sniggering at 'yay' kids
I'm glad Shelagh told him to stop being a doctor, be a parent, then 2 mins later he's back to being a doctor!

Then they went home in time for tea and left May at death’s door in hospital.

Dramatic interlude time!

Yes! This!!!

sorry, i meant to quote this I think I only watch this now to play guess the disease and find out how Matthew will leave the show.

CrushingOnRubies · 04/02/2024 21:14

Is next week the last episode of the series?

The preview has that sort of climatic feel about it

Jitterybugs · 04/02/2024 21:15

There was an iced bun obsession going on tonight. How many times were they mentioned? They didn’t even make them appear home made. They were straight from an Asda packet when the Turners were tucking in 😂

Bunionbabe · 04/02/2024 21:17

I'm new here so bear with me. Has Trixie always been materialistic, insensitive, greedy and shallow? I see Helen George is in the new staging of The King and I. Mediocre reviews I think.

PinkFrogss · 04/02/2024 21:18

My future storyline prediction is May sees the error of her ways in criticising Saint Turner and Co, and gives her consent for May to be adopted. Yays and iced buns all round to celebrate.

Bonus points if Cyril gets involved and talks to Mays birth mum about the real abuse and neglect he sees, and convinces her to change her mind.

Yes. Trixie has always been that way. That's a shame about The King and I she seemed good in the bit they showed on a musicals show recently.

To a certain extent yes, but there used to be a lot more depth and context to her personality. And she used to be a very good midwife.

Now she’s just a plot device to push Matthews storyline onwards.

Nothing to add to the melodrama except to say my DM made us stripey changing ‘capes’ back then. They were great. I thought she’d invented them.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 04/02/2024 21:22

Showing my age

I saw the king and I on stage when I was a youngster. With Yul Brynner. I’ve not forgotten it. Superb.

Claustrophobiclown · 04/02/2024 21:24

We had those towels as well. My mother also made them. They were a brilliant idea.

I thought it was a bit heartless the way Phyllis was eagerly looking for the best photograph of their day out at the sea, and Violet was thrilled that there was going to be another one, while poor Mai was at death's door due to her near drowning.

Also would Mai's mother really have that much say over things and be allowed pull Mai away from a caring family that even the social worker said she was happy with? The woman had abandoned her daughter and surely couldn't just walk in and insist she be torn away from the only family she had ever known.

And to finish it off Cyril’s cat will have kittens and he’ll present one to the Turners. They’ll all gaze lovingly at the children while they frolic on the floor with the cute kitten.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/02/2024 21:24

I can't believe that Trixie hasn't cottoned on to the fact that something is wrong.

Her observational skills are sadly lacking in this series

SilentSoubriquet · 04/02/2024 21:26

Watching now. That water was so deep <rolling eyes>.

Also, drowning is silent, resus is not holding the nose and blowing air in the face. Worst drowning scene ever

eggandonion · 04/02/2024 21:27

I wasn't allowed a lilo. My parents believed I would certainly be swept out to sea on one.
I was allowed to make iced buns from a packet though...Mary Baker brand I think.

Claustrophobiclown · 04/02/2024 21:28

Trixie isn't exactly covering herself in glory this series. Leaving Jonty three times a week to stay in Nonnatus House, suggesting he goes to pre school to give her and Matthew more time together, asking for shops to be opened up specially for her, ignoring all the signs that there's an issue with money. What happened to the old Trixie?

PuffyShirt · 04/02/2024 21:33

Is it wrong that we laughed all the way through May’s near drowning drama?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 04/02/2024 21:35

I've said it before, this series has removed all character development from Trixie. She went from obsessed with men and marriage, through the breakup with Tom where she started to realise that her high demands were the cause of the problem, she went to Africa and gained so much confidence in herself and she became a very, very perceptive and skilled person and practitioner.

Then they got her clearly getting with Matthew far too soon after Fiona died and turned her in to this utterly ridiculous, selfish creature who looks like she has a bleached mop on her head.

MadeOfAllWork · 04/02/2024 21:37

I’ve forgotten why May’s mum gave her up.

DH was amazed at the changing towels. I couldn’t believe he’d not had one. They were a staple in the 70s.
