In fairness, the season had more or less disappeared by 1969 and, in any event, Trixie is in her thirties so not of an age to be going to dubutante balls to meet a husband.

Re the disappearance of Sr Hilda, she was played by the wonderful Fenella Woodgar who was woefully underused and given very few storylines. I'm not surprised she decided to leave. It was quite insulting, really, how little she was used given her pedigree as an actress.

Edited

By “the Season” I was thinking less of debutantes and more of the round of Henley - Royal Ascot - Glyndebourne style summer social events, which a grande dame of my former acquaintance used to refer to as The Season.

(I presume your Sr Hilda point was more general to the thread at large rather than a reply to my quoted post, as while I also enjoyed and miss Fenella W, my comment was specifically about Sr Frances.)

History is made by people choosing to do things differently. There were plenty of women who could have stayed at home or gone to garden parties who didn’t want to do that, and did things against the grain. Women who wanted to work after marrying are the reason things eventually changed - it didn’t happen out of nowhere.

To me the weirdest thing is that she’s never learned to drive.

Not sure who's watching but anyone feel Fred's weeping injury might be a little bit ominous?

Goatymum · 21/01/2024 20:13

It’ll be sepsis - Fred!

I'm thinking that too 🙁 leading to sepsis or something

MadeOfAllWork · 21/01/2024 20:15

We both said sepsis. It wasn’t called that back then though was it? I knew it as blood poisoning.

CrushingOnRubies · 21/01/2024 20:17

Dr Turner is going to do his ground breaking discovery explanation of sepsis isn't he??

Name854 · 21/01/2024 20:18

Sepsis or tetanus as soon as he sliced his hand I thought tetanus

JustOneMoreBaileys · 21/01/2024 20:18

Honest opinion? don't worry about that eyeshadow, it's your tights that are the main problem 😂

CrushingOnRubies · 21/01/2024 20:18

Well model woman's momager is lovely isn't she 🤨

Goatymum · 21/01/2024 20:19

Oh god shout about tetanus especially after Trixie asked if he was up to date with his jabs

Name854 · 21/01/2024 20:20

And she didn't listen properly to the answer. It's tetanus, timeline fits.

JustOneMoreBaileys · 21/01/2024 20:20

Tetanus is a good shout.

Barbara died of sepsis, so they'd go for something different, I think.

Name854 · 21/01/2024 20:21

He's one of the few likeable characters left so they better not kill him off

They made me look twice, such an unflattering colour and pattern.

Jitterybugs · 21/01/2024 20:21

As soon as he cut his hand it just had to be tetanus I think

JustOneMoreBaileys · 21/01/2024 20:22

There's the lock jaw!

MadeOfAllWork · 21/01/2024 20:23

DH has got completely distracted by chocolate limes.

Why didn’t Fred have it seen to?

JustOneMoreBaileys · 21/01/2024 20:23

I love Phyllis with all my heart.

Phyllis and Fred. Once they're gone the show is dead to me.

Because he's a man

Me too

Name854 · 21/01/2024 20:26

It's the Wikipedia entry narratives that come with diagnosis that's getting me these days.

JustOneMoreBaileys · 21/01/2024 20:27

Also, Phyllis introduced us to this poem - which I loved when I heard it...

Ay, the pain it costs me
to love you as I love you!

For love of you, the air, it hurts,
and my heart,
and my hat, they hurt me.

Who would buy it from me,
this ribbon I am holding,
and this sadness of cotton,
white, for making hankerchiefs with?

Ay, the pain it costs me
to love you as I love you!
