I haven’t watched yet but I will later. I was reading one of Jennifer Worth’s later books & discovered that you can find the old Mother House on Lodore St in Poplar. If you do street view on google maps you can see it. I find things like that fascinating.

I fully expected Matthew to come pounding up the road to the police cordon!

Promising start. I'm liking the additions to the cast.

I liked this episode. Seems like a bit of an improvement and I like the new additions so far.

Yes. It was quite good. The Cyril story like is bizarre. Surely he'd have gone after Lucille.

He did last season. He went and visited her in Jamaica and told Fred and Violet how happy she was. They said “but you came back?”

He said about how he had a good life here. Friends and a good job

That was a good episode. Rosie Jones was really good! I don't like her comedy so I wasn't sure when she wasn't going to be in it, but she is a really good actor.

I thought it was really rude to Doreen/Rosie to look at her medical records regarding her birth though. And really mean to then tell Sister Julienne just to upset her! But I liked that Doreen/Rosie said she wasn't broken.

Fresh midwives are ok and the episode centred women giving birth as it should. Cecil is weird and shouldn't be in it anymore as he's unconnected with the story now.

I would actually like a midwives in the war spin off. I have my Grandmother's pregnancy book from those days (or earlier?). It's fascinating! IIRC weaning was at 6 months. It also recommended brushing your nipples with a scrubbing brush before birth to toughen them up

Well, they've dealt with black people having a bad time and being discriminated against over housing, with some of the Cyril and Lucille story. Now they're having a bash at nurses' pay. I am hoping that if Lucille really isn't coming back there has to be some divorce angst and then they tackle a mixed-race romance by having him and the new fair-haired sensible nurse become sweet on one another. When she was given the flyer for the church I noticed that she DID NOT crumple up her paper - she kept it. I shall be watching to see if she goes to church next week.🙂

are Trixie and Matthew leaving? I like Trixie but don't like Matthew or Nancy. Like Cyril but he's not really important anymore.

Liking the new midwives though! Show might start getting interesting again.

I agree they're probably setting up a romance between Cyril and the new blonde midwife.

Why was Trixie looking so sad when she heard Nancy and the others having a bit of fun in the bedroom? I can understand her smiling fondly and remembering her younger days with Jenny et al. But she looked almost unhappy, as if she isn't enjoying her current life.

I thought tonight was a strong first episode. I like the fact that they have avoided the stereotype that someone with Caribbean descent will obviously be a church goer. I wondered if Cyril would fall for the other one. Have we had a mixed race relationship in a full cast member before? I loved the fact that Trixie was wistful at hearing the record player on in her old bedroom. At the end I did think that Matthew was going to be a boring old f and tell Trixie she had to leave Nonnatus. I wonder if this is how they are going to write his character out.

I thought Trixie was wistful. Since moving to the current Nonnatus house in series 3,that had been her bedroom. (OK I know there have been a few gaps, but she always returned to the same bed in that room.).

Surely they wouldn't make Boring Matthew and Trixie split up? Unless he just won't be in it just mentoned and never seen - like Mr Marple (Len?) in Neighbours.

Anyhow it's nice to see them building a bit of camaraderie between the nurses. It's been badly missing in recent series, with Phyllis, Trixie, Lucille and Nancy all being at different stages in their lives.

Loving the new additions to the cast. Not loving the unrealistic storyline of Cyril being ok with Camille not returning…

Thank god for Tiny Tim Turner mansplaining everything to Mrs Turner. What would we do without him? 😂

There are rumours that in real life Trixie and Matthew are an item 😉

I agree about cameraderie. Took me back to scenes of Trixie and Jenny moving into that room in series 3,or when Patsy was there and having drinks and wasn't there a hoolahoop at one time? I think this series will have a new vibe.

I'm watching at the moment. I love that Trixie is off to live in the Barbican.

@Hmmph yes I found looking at her both. Records odd. All that they would need to know is that she had a hypoxic brain injury. But by the time she is an adult. The cause of her CP isn't particularly relevant.
